LG Optimus 2X vs Apple iPhone 4
The main difference between the 5MP shooter on the iPhone 4, and the 8MP one on the LG Optimus 2X is the dual-core LG phone’s ability to record Full HD 1080p video, whereas the iPhone 4 maxes out at HD 720p. The camera interfaces also couldn’t be more different - LG’s creation has an abundance of scenes, settings and preset modes, whereas the iPhone 4 takes the term “point and shoot” to a whole new level. If you are looking for the easiest casual way to snap a photo with your handset, the iPhone 4 won’t bother you with any settings.
The quality of the pictures from the iPhone 4 has been well-analyzed numerous times. The phone produces contrasty, saturated images, with a very good amount of detail and focus. They tend to be a bit noisy, for the sake of sharpness, and have slightly warmer hue inside.
With the LG Optimus 2X, on the other hand, the noise is less discernible, but post-processing it smears the shot a little bit. Still, the handset captures plenty of detail, but the colors in good daylight appear a bit colder than they actually are. With cloudy skies the shots are murky, and the colors again appear colder than they are in reality. Indoor shots, though, are very good, with sharp details and true colors, whereas the light from the LED flash is more powerful than the one on the iPhone 4. As mentioned above, a lot of indoor shots taken with the iPhone 4 have this annoying yellow tint to them.
Now, for the video, we won’t be reinventing the wheel when we tell you that the Full HD 1080p video option gives a real advantage in the amount of detail the LG Optimus 2X is able to capture, compared to the iPhone 4. Despite the high compression levels, we can see more minute details on the Full HD video samples taken in one and the same location with the Optimus 2X, thаn on the HD video, captured with the iPhone 4.
The frame rate of 24 per second is lower in 1080p mode than the 30fps of the iPhone 4 in 720p mode, so the Full HD videos with LG’s handset are not as smooth looking in comparison. The colors in the video samples follow the same trend observed in the stills - oversaturated, sometimes blown-up colors from the iPhone 4, very cold ones from the LG Optimus 2X when cloudy, and slightly colder than reality when the daylight is plentiful.
We would have given our preference to the video capture from the dual-core phone here, if it wasn’t for the sluggish exposure and white balance adjustments on the LG Optimus 2X. The iPhone 4 is much zippier to seamlessly adjust the brightness when you pan around, or a bright object enters the frame, whereas on the videos with the Optimus 2X it goes as if you are slowly turning Venetian Blinds. Hopefully this can be remedied with a firmware update of sorts.
Nevertheless, because of the abundance of detail in the 1080p videos, the very good indoor shots, and the wider lens view, we’d give slight advantage to the Optimus 2X in the camera comparison.
Now let’s turn our attention to music. Both handsets have stereo speakers at the bottom, which are very good (for handset speakers, that is). We only wish the speakers were more powerful on both, otherwise the sound output is clear enough.
The LG Optimus 2X music player interface is almost stock Android in portrait mode, and can’t hold water compared to the iPod player on the iPhone 4. Turn the phone in landscape mode, though, and the LG Optimus 2X shows one of the prettiest interfaces to list and play your music we’ve encountered. The albums are arranged in a Cover Flow-esque carousel with 3D effects and transparent titles. A handy alphabetic slider at the bottom allows for quick find of the needed album in case your collection is vast.
As for video playback, Apple’s iOS devices' format support is poorer than the one on the LG Optimus 2X. The Android phone plays MPEG and H.263/.264 files, and, when you register it with the DivX Player on your computer (see the option in the Settings menu), it also plays DivX/Xvid files. We also played .MKV files in the Matroska container with the QQPlayer from Android Market, but 1080p video lags a bit - this player is still not optimized to process so much info in that format.
When we combine the rich format support with the fact that the LG Optimus 2X plays Full HD 1080p video, and has a bigger 4” screen than the iPhone 4, it is the clear winner in video playback. Not that you will appreciate Full HD on any phone’s screen resolution, but it gives you that warm glow inside when you see the video clip resolution pegged at 1920x1080p, and your phone has only warmed up a little.

"who want the iPhone 4 design, simplicity of use, and the fact that iOS is the platform where developers are putting most effort"
Seriously I don't know where the idea that android is super complicated comes into play, my mom who is technically challenged learned how to use a droid in one day.
She like it over my fathers iPhone because she thinks it easier to use (Probably because of physical buttons)
I like both iOS and Android but lets stop making excuses Phonearena. Android is not that complicated and stop saying that everyone thinks it is, because thats not true, and there is no study proving that your point is true.

DUDE! you are on point with this, i have had both OS's and i must say Android is alot more user friendly then iOS, we all just need to slow our rolls because phonearena will always try to find something bad about the Android OS, thats why i spend most of my time at other phone websites.

Dude, what they mean about Android being complicated is that it is an open source OS that can be modified by TechSavy users. Just like Ubuntu, you can customize it in any way you want it. When I say customization, I'm not just talking about adding widgets or changing wallpapers. Let's say one can alter Android UI whichever suits his/her needs. That's why its SDK is given to the public for free since you can use based on your own preferences.

It's obvious that Optimus 2x is better so I'm asking - Why do you make this stupid comparisons to iPhone? Every new smarthone is compared to an old iPhone - because of that behaviour you're creating a mystical mist around iPhone, a legend that iPhone is the best and then, noobs are going to buy it.
Just make comparison to another smartphone - there are plenty of them, NOT ALWAYS TO THE FU$KING iPhone!

The iphone4 is a bit old to be compared to a not even released phone. Although flattering, it's unreasonable. Of course the LG Optimus would outperform the iphone4 in many aspects. Even then, I'm still sticking with my iphone. It's a practical phone for my practical needs on a smartphone. Not to mention that I already have apps on my iphone that I've accustomed to use every day that would be hard parting from. But as far as comparing the two devices. The LG Optimus is the clear winner.

here's a thought... why dont you guys just STOP doing these until something else beside the iPhone wins?
otherwise its just as pathetically bias as the one before....

"the fact that iOS is the platform where developers are putting most effort".
It's true that iOS has a mature software base, but it's had a much longer head start than Android. But to say that developers ARE putting most of their effort into iOS is ludicrous statement with NOTHING to back it up. Considering how quickly the Android market has improved I would say IMHO it's the other way around.
And there are still plenty of shovelware on the appstore. Even with all the reviews, and if your lucky, demos you can still end up with a lemon wishing you could get a refund. That happens much rarer on Android where I can at least try something out for 15-min and return if I don't like it. I'm much more likely to purchase a newly released software that has no reviews or demos.

i just can't believe this!!!!
WHY this comparison?
like he said:

What I would like to know is if you put the Android browser to plug-in's on demand then how quick does it load in comparison??

Still iphone4 way better than LG 2x don't get wrong I asked a friend of mine he try out the LG 2x cuz he's working for LG for living myself I like the phone you know what he told the phone it's fast and good looking phone and the battery not that bad but the some time crashes and hang kind of weird cuz it's Dual core! I think and this my opinion iPhone cuz of OS better than Andriod I'm nit saying that Android it's bad or something but google did not optimized Android will or the hardware in some Android phones it doesn't has a quilaty as iPhone or the software didn't work will with hardware.

Why we have to compare all mobile phones to iPhone? Because they are the best? I don't think so, they are a great phones but we should not great them so much, and especially the iPhone 4 who has 2 major issues; the reception and battery life. So, why this phone is always on top of any other phones? And they are very limited in terms of music/ dependent on iTunes / and so on. With all my respect to Apple and iPhones I have to say that a phone with such issues should not be rated so high, they have one of the the best features and screen and apps, but if look around you will see much better phones, and remember if a phone is limited to something or dependent ignore it immediately, a phone like this i call it "An Comunist Phone".........

The iPhone is a capable device and it's always compared to because (like it or not) it pretty much set the standard. As is evident, the Optimus 2X is blatantly copying the iPhone. But I'm sure you all are going to downrank a rather logical comment simply because it's slightly in favor to the iPhone.
14. ivelin (unregistered)
When the first iPhone appeared, from where do you think Apple got and based their standarts and interface? From the other phone companies, isn't it? And you think iPhone do not copying anything, you will see some stuff when the new iPhone 5 comes out.
I'm not against Apple and iPhone, they are a nice phones and deserve to be ranked, but i'm just annoyed that the media use the iPhone as exemplary.....

One recommendation try comparing other phones to each other and people will consider this less biassed
15. Diego! (Posts: 573; Member since: 15 Jun 2009)
The real comparison should be actually among four new devices:
LG Optimus 2X, LG Optimus 3D (different chip than LG Op. 2X), Motorola ATRIX 4G and Samsung Galaxy S II
THAT is something we all are looking forward to.
Why should every single new phone be compared to iPhone 4? Geez!
24. zuno gyakusatsu (Posts: 257; Member since: 16 Mar 2010)
that would be comparing turds against turds. in the end, they are all just a pile of steaming feces with a bloated unstable os and are manufactured by companies with non-existant QA divisions. no thanks.

And again proving that Apple users have anger issues and little man cyndrome when there is competetion (that is usually better) to an Apple product emerges. Sad...

Phone arena why everytime i come here you slap me in the face with your baseless iPhone love. you should change the name to iPhonearena it makes a hell of alot more since. seeing as you dont give any phone other than the iphone good reviews. case in point the epic 4g you down ranked it because it doesnt have a kickstand WTF a kickstand only one phone that i know of in the market has a kickstand (aka the evo 4g) why dont you down rank the iPhone 4 because it doesnt have a kickstand or real multitaking or a proper notification system (one that doesnt make you leave what you are doing to check it)
iPhonearena you are pathetic
17. ddd (unregistered)
All i can say is that phonearena are stupid iphone lovers,so if they compare it to another phone, they still think its better.I bet in the future they will compare a quad core smartphone with iphone 4,and they will think it is better
25. zuno gyakusatsu (Posts: 257; Member since: 16 Mar 2010)
if its an android phone, then they will probably be right with that assumption.
28. Snorkelface (Posts: 2; Member since: 02 Mar 2011)
Another one from this guy?! I'm betting this guy sists there with his iPhone in his hand, all proud of how trendy he is. Then his friends and co-workers arre sitting around him with their Android phones doing things that his iPhone just isn't capable of. His feelings get hurt as they insult his manhood by critiziing his little iPhone and it just sends him into a tizzy. Maybe you should just upgrade your phone so you don't have to be pissed off all the time.
18. ivelin (unregistered)
So you think that a phone with a reception issue, poor battery life, limited to music, no flash, no file transfer via bluetooth and so on, still stays as exemplary to others. Funny isn' it?
How much Apple pays you guys for that?
19. keep it moving (unregistered)
Phonearena and Apple sitting in a tree K I S S I N G . It's funny how much love you have for the fruit phone.
20. Jeff (unregistered)
PhoneArena is definitely getting paid by Apple, no doubt about it. Apple pays them to continue this 'hype' into a 4 year old phone that is missing core features, so that dumb customers come into my cell phone store asking for it without knowing why they even want it. Also, you cannot continue comparing new 4G phones to this old 3G device, it doesnt work.
22. DT71 (unregistered)
What a bunch of stupid comments. Android Fanboys. Sad people. I don't own an iPhone (I own a Samsung Wave), but the iphne IS the standard in multimedia touchscreen phones. Apple just did a great job with the first and every following device. Period. Every other phone is mimmicking it's interface. Even Android and Bada. Why? Because it's a great invention. That's why. Stop whinging about conspiracies and PhoneArena beeing payed by Apple or just don't read the articles. Bunch of cry babies.
31. Ivelin (unregistered)
Is the reception issue is a standard for iPhones? Or the limited music, or the bad battery? Which one is a standard?
From where do you think Apple and iPhone based their standards and UI when were introduced..?
All my friends with the iPhones a cry babies, they all complain because of the reception issue, even with the case boosters..
I just laugh a lot when people say that the iPhone is a leader in the phone industriy.....!
33. rayjones09 (Posts: 149; Member since: 16 Dec 2010)
Ummm...it kinda is. Android is leading because it's ubiquitous where as IOS on;y has a few devices. iPhone is a leader in the phone industry. Thank Apple for Android's relevance.

Since when is iphone 4 a benchmark to be beaten?!? Lol Phonearena just doesn't want to lose funding from Crapple.
30. highwind (unregistered)
it's just like saying "apple iphone is the best, so we must be better than it"
all this phone competition is just lame
i stick with android though
34. Mihai (unregistered)
iOS was the best, but Android is getting better and better. Sorry iPhone lovers - this is real. I love LG Optimus 2x I'm waiting for it in Switzerland. And I have a quote: Why should we be in the "horde", if you have a little bit of culture you should try something else?! ... like Android.
P.S. If you want to listen to radio ... you buy a radio receiver?! because you don't have radio on iPhone :))
