LG Nitro HD Review
0. phoneArena posted on 06 Dec 2011, 06:15
The Nitro HD, as its name implies, has brought forward one very impressive asset – a 720x1280 HD display, to deliver a screen clarity that would be unmatched by its opponents. But having in mind its above-average price tag of $249.99 with a two-year contract, we think it'd still be worth it if we take a closer look at the LG Nitro HD, in order to determine if it's really capable of leap-frogging the competition...

LG Nitro HD though first hd from manufacturer it fails, because it is LG.

wait. The g2x was the first tegra phone.
Optimus 3d was the first 3d.
i guess there are a couple of phones worth praising LG for.
I like LG. not over rated much. I just hate their software so much.

That's why the LG G2x from T-Mobile was good. Why? It had Stock Android Gingerbread.
10. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 06 Dec 2011, 18:43 2 0
Exactly the G2x on stock gingerbread runs very smooth and lag free and it only is clocked at 1ghz dual core with only 512mb of ram. While you have phones like the rezound running 1.5ghz dual core and 1gb of ram and yet it can be sluggish at times. Sense UI is to blame for that just like LGs UI is as well. Put a stock android rom on this and it would be insanely fast and zippy.

I haven't used LG phones much, but if by "software" you mean their design, I think it's way nicer than Samsung's ugly TouchWiz design. I'm just shocked that their Optimus Sense is actually designed well and I never paid attention to LG phones.

Well we may finally have an LG phone worth buying :D
I like he polished look but hate the sluggishness of the LG UI. They never really been great at software, ir hardware for that matter
Brand aside, this is a rather decent offering.

Yeah it's pretty decent.
I like the 720p IPS LCD display and LTE, but the sluggish UI, so-so camera, and $249 price point are deal breakers.
And who KNOWS when this device will get Ice Cream Sandwich.

The camera on the Nitro is way better than on any of the other compared devices so I don't know what you are complaining about
26. vmaster posted on 25 Dec 2011, 18:35 1 0
They might not have been great at software design, but to bring some balance Samsung's android software design is way uglier.
I agree this definitely looks like an LG phone worth buying, and primarily the "IPS" HD display that has me sold on it.

The unit used by gsmarena team ran much smoother.. : /
27. vmaster posted on 25 Dec 2011, 18:40 1 0
Yeah true but so is Galaxy S2 t-mobile version and HTC amaze are laggy and a lot of other high-end smartphones.
It's the "snapdragon" processor that doesn't have a great reputation, and also the maximum software to hardware optimization which most android powered devices lack. That's why iphones and recent windows phones, run by lower specs perform way more smoothly, because they're optimized well in that area.

how does this get a 8.0 and the skyrocket get a 7.5 score. compare the pros vs the cons of both and i'm sure the majority would much rather have the skyrocket with a "bland design" than "sluggish performance" of the nitro. the only thing the nitro has over the skyrocket is it's hd screen.
11. rayjones09 posted on 07 Dec 2011, 09:40 0 0
The skin on this phone looks horrible. Other than that and the uninteresting design, in terms of specs is a great competitor.
28. vmaster posted on 25 Dec 2011, 18:45 1 0
are you kidding me????? It's way nicer than Samsung galaxy whose TouchWiz is horribly designed.
12. metoyou posted on 07 Dec 2011, 14:45 0 0
LG phone always longer than other phone with the same or smaller display
LG 2X is a terrible phone if you ask me. I had it and sold it as soon as i can :(

Wrong OEM, released at the wrong time, with the wrong software, and the wrong hardware.
If Samsung released the Galaxy Nexus on AT&T right now you can be sure as hell, LTE or not, this would be the phone to get.

why there are so many people saying that this is the first hd phone =.= it's the galaxy note. And btw, note get 7 and this urly thing get 8 ???
29. vmaster posted on 25 Dec 2011, 18:48 1 0
definitely not the first HD phone, but the first phone with a 720p high quality "IPS" display.

1.5 mbps on HSPA+ is pretty neat, considering the max you can get i believe is 2mbps.
I like the display, but the UI is kinda suckish, i remember how motoblur use to be just as worse or even worse, now its one of the best ones out there. LG needs to step it up, or stick into making TV's or dishwashers.
21. networkdood posted on 10 Dec 2011, 22:18 0 0
2mbps is not the max on HSPA+, especially for this phone.

Everbody's complaining about lagging. This kind of lag, which is hardly noticable is acceptable to me. Btw the first HD screen thing: it's true that it's not the first HD screener, but the first one to use RGB matrix, which is really noticable. Just put this phone next to a Nexus and a Rezound. You'll see the difference.
I like the look of the phone, it's simple and cool, like the Nexus (and don't tell me the Nexus looks better :D)
30. vmaster posted on 25 Dec 2011, 18:54 1 0
Right on the bulls eye! I had a chance to experience Nexus and Rezound displays and wasn't too satisfied.
Nexus- matrix pixels still noticeable on small fonts such as when zooming out, and the screen's white color is dull, producing "yellower" or "bluer" color than normal.
Rezound- nice but lacks great contrast and nice viewing angles.

I don't know, I have an LG Vortex I play with, it is very smooth, impressive for the processor speed, Aren't any flagships for Verizon from LG, I wouldn't mind giving one a shot....
20. LGlady posted on 09 Dec 2011, 10:53 2 1
All of you that hate LG not sure why exactly because all manufactures have their issues and you are just not mentioning those. Stop haten on LG.... Have any of you even played with the Nitro or are you all going by past devices or isolated issues? I can tell you from experience that this device is outstanding and deserves recognition! Go LG

I owned the lg C1500 and it got poor signal in the house - I would be willing to try another one, again.

i might trade up my htc rezound with that, much better screen but hate the software:P
32. vmaster posted on 25 Dec 2011, 18:56 1 0
What exactly do you mean by "software"? The sense? If yes, I beg to differ, I think it's well designed at least compared to Samsungs TouchWiz.
24. MpowerSkills posted on 12 Dec 2011, 20:58 0 0
After my experience with the Revolution, I can't see myself buying a LG device any time soon.

Seeing 8 out of 10 score for this phone I now highly doubt the competence of this website.
The phone is a joke, totally. The only good about it is the screen, which no doubt is the best at the time it was released, well, to be fair, camera is also surprisingly good. That's about it.
The battery drains in 3-4 hours with no screen active if you use any kind of heavy data (not even LTE data), even voice chat via google talk or skype will kill the battery in no time.
The compass is defective, and seems to be hardware defection (google navigator when switched to walking spins your direction 360 degree). Email support refuse to admit it, blaming on apps I'm using (all of them???), however their official forum moderators admitted the problem.
If you own headset for iPhone - forget it, it will not work on Nitro, it will only work as headphone, mic most probably wont.
The UI is laggy, even after hard reset (aka wipe user data). After some usage the lag become so bad that sometimes you don't know did it register your tap or not, waiting 1-2 seconds and tapping again more often then not produce double tap.
The US version (actually Nitro HD) has so much room wasted around clock, could fit an extra icon, this is specifically noticeable if you switch to 24H mode.
The community development for the phone is totally dead, because any good coders know better then wasting their time on this piece of crap - can't blame them.
ICS update luckily will be released this summer, it's over 6 month after release? And that's for the phone that was designed for ICS!!! Wait to go LG!
If you are looking for a decent phone DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! It's not worth a $100, let alone it's release price at $600.
