HTC One X+ vs Samsung Galaxy S III
0. phoneArena 07 Nov 2012, 09:10 posted on
Some Android manufacturers, like Samsung, didn't touch their current high-end phones going into the holiday season, others like Sony or LG issued brand new devices in the fight, while HTC took a different approach, and upgraded its spring chicken HTC One X to the One X+ specs. It is the latest newcomer to the grand Android kerfuffle, so it is only natural that we intend to throw it in a bar brawl with the Samsung Galaxy S III, a phone that sold 30 million units so far...

It is always hard to make a decision between sammy and htc :D

Imagine a phone Build and Designed from Htc but with all the good features (like removable battery, sdcard slot) present on the Samsung!
29. zuckerboy (Posts: 436; Member since: 22 Dec 2011)
Of course not for you. This is my own opinion mate :D
36. Captain_Doug (Posts: 726; Member since: 10 Feb 2012)
And then I expressed mine. Which wasn't even against yours. Just more decisive. I like the word mate but I feel weird using it. Cool cool cool.

I would choose HTC One X+ over Samsung Galaxy S III.

Not if you like multitasking that actually works correctly, it's not.

I find myself lost with SIII, matter of preference. one x+ is no slouch either.
4. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 2951; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
Yup, it's a hard decision!
But between these two, i'd choose the HOX+, no hard feelings Sammy, you're cool too.
I really like the red accent HTC has given the X+...it stands out...moreover, the display is looking great.

Htc is Win no doubt..its very powerfull & good job in linkpack ..plus that Sense 4+ is unique..
dear gsm plz review between one x+ vs optimus g & one x + vs iphone 5..thanks a lot.

yes gsm plz review between gs3 and another phones, because HTC can not compete with Samsung.samsung isnt on par with HTC,its better

PA, seriously you are losing credibility big time. The only area where the SIII has an advantage is arguably the camera and yet PA can't jump off the fence!
The HOX+ wins this duel hands down! Not forgetting the build quality which is not even a contest given the cheap feel of the SIII and phantom cracking issues.

You just said 18 minutes earlier what i wanted to say, seriously it's ridiculous when everything(be it screen, build quality,UI,benchmark scores) other than camera(though i don't agree what they said about One X+'s camera as i prefer saturated colors compared to the muted ones on Galaxy S3,not to mention Galaxy S3 loves to over expose everything in bright light which to me is a biggest fault but as expected Phonearena Didn't point out)is better in HTC One X+ compared to Galaxy S3,they insist on saying they are on par.
Seriously Phonearena as Tmach said you need to be fair when doing reviews and comparisons(instead of being biased)other wise you will lose your credibility(people will go no to call this site Samsungarena or Iphonearena rather than Phonearena)and in return you will lose a lot of readers!!!

You are very correct about that they kept saying on par where as the other one is ahead. The one x is not on par with galaxy s3 it is better.

The multitasking in the new HTC phones is complete crap. I don't care what anyone says. I had two different HTC one X's and they both sucked. You can see it right there in the video when the browser tabs refresh EVERY time he switches between them. Who in their right mind would choose that over multitasking that works correctly?
That's a serious deal-breaker for me. I don't care how good the rest of the phone is. As long as Multitasking is crippled like that, this phone is useless and HTC's poor sales would seem to agree with me.

But PA reviewers won't ever admit it. They're going to ride Sammy's meat all the way to the bank.

Lol, its running at 1.7GHz and got a few higher benchmarks yet the S3 STILL manages to be smoother at web browsing and general UI!? Excellent job by Samsung :)
If you think the Htc one then you're seriously lying to yourself.
May i add that you can get the S3 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants and ADD a 64GB mem card on top, so you really cant hand the memory part to the One X+
The conclusion here is that S3 has a better camera, smoother UI, more features, better media (music and video) and is more versatile.
Yeah, right, the Htc won. :'D

I agree with you. Galaxy s3 is a lovely phone.
41. JasonJia11 (Posts: 6; Member since: 01 Dec 2012)
You're a little kid. Benchmarks don't mean anything, just marketing bs. My friend has a Gs3, and my HOX+ is faster than his. And 64 GB of storage is far more than enough. Considering you also have Dropbox storage, and storage cards cost money. And Sense 4+ is more fluid than Touchwiz, Touchwiz is unorganized and clustered. And storage is not memory. Like I said, you must be a little kid. And at the end, you even said yourself HTC wrong, you just pointed out things that Samsung had better in your opinion, yet you say HTC won.

Htc all the way.. better camera...stylish design.. beats audio.. bright colors.. sense 4+ ? Awesome.. I don't hate Samsung .. but HTC really builds quality

HTC One X+ feels like a brick in my hands. Build quality : like I said One X+ is feels very solid but it is like a brick. SG3 is plastic, yes I can not deny that, but it feels solid too and more importantly it does not feel like a brick. About the screen : SLCD2 is very good, but I like OLED technology more, but SLCD2 has a better brightness than SAMOLED in SG3, I have no idea what SAMSUNG did to SG3 but my SGS1 has a better brightness even better than ONE X+ when I tested them (IMO). About the benchmarks : they can easily be optimized, my SGS1 can achieve 6000 in antutu ( with some help from xda developers ofcourse). That is the reason why ONE X+ got better score than SG3, there is no way that tegra 3 can beat exynos 4412. Speaking of xda developers : SG3 has a great community in xda developers unlike ONE X+ and that is THE deal breaker for me so goodbye

considering that this is actually a tough call for me shows that HTC definitely deserves some kudos here but tbh i wouldn't get either of these handsets with phones like the Nexus 4, the Optimus G and the Droid DNA on the way. the only phones i think are purchase considerable now with anything less than an S4 Pro is the Droid Razr MAXX HD, the Galaxy Note II and of course the WP8 devices.
17. SK_007 (Posts: 17; Member since: 02 Jun 2011)
Except for the last line i somewhat agree with you,but the problem for me is(i am planning an upgrade from my Htc sensation as i think it is kinda old and under-powered now)that stock Android is kinda boring and ugly looking for me though it has a plus point that it will recieve updates timely(it's my personal opinion so it does not mean everyone will agree with me infact majority of people prefer stock Android)so Nexus 4 is out,Droid DNA(or whatever it will be called in international market)is not available yet and i have to buy within next 15 days so it is also out for me,that brings me to Optimus G frankly speaking i love this phone,it got the latest and most powerful hardware, has a very good build quality,is great looking and has one of the best display(i would blindly take it over any phone today)but unfortunately i don't think it will ever be available in my country,so that's why i am bound to choose between One X+ and Galaxy S3,and between these two One X+ is definitely the better choice.
Damn u Lg why u no release Optimus G in my country :P
20. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5424; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
why do you have to buy in the next 15 days?
21. SK_007 (Posts: 17; Member since: 02 Jun 2011)
Coz my Sensation is not working like it should anymore,it often turns off while i am on a call or doing something, and the battery often dies every 2 hours!!!
22. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5424; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
then sell it and pay cash for something cheap but works fine to use while you wait for something like the Optimus G.
28. SK_007 (Posts: 17; Member since: 02 Jun 2011)
Yeah that's a nice suggestion,i think i'll do this.
19. rickywinataa (Posts: 261; Member since: 05 Apr 2012)
jelly bean's project butter just made one x / one x+ very solid phones
24. robocopvn (Posts: 137; Member since: 10 Mar 2010)
I love all of the HTC OneX+ design but the back camera, it looks like an ugly scar !

I had the HTC OneX but was stolen then i replaced it with the S3. I highly doubt that the 300mAh extra juice would add a lot of surfing time, especially the processor was overclocked. my OneX with 1,800mAh barely manages 4hrs screen on of continuous browsing at 50% brightness. my S3 however manages up to 6-7hrs at 50% brightness. But for screen quality, OneX hands down, its gorgeous and bright and lovely to look at. I overclocked my S3 to 1.6GHz and i had the same benchmarks as the OneX+. I tried overclocking my OneX in the past as well but overheats and the battery life was even worse. What i love about the OneX though is the stand-by time, 8hrs of sleep, it losses just 1% whereas the S3 losses about 3%. But i was happier with S3 overall. The multitasking, better battery life in browsing, watching vids, playing games, and pretty much everything else, easy storage thru SDcard (i have put on my past HTC Sensation and i can put on future devices), more overclock efficient processor thru root, better camera, and everything else except for the screen and standby time.

It's very hard to choose which of these two phones in the end wins. But I suppose the best thing to rely on is which feature has more of your personal preference
30. Khaled_Toukhi (Posts: 4; Member since: 11 Sep 2012)
Well I updated my S3 to jelly bean last week by Samsung Kies and it is very smooth, I like it. I still have no idea why PA compares the JB One X+ with ICS S3.
Away from this both are great phones and i would love to get anyone.

Last night I dreamt I had this phone(One X+). From that, I conclude that HTC is the Best.

It's like comparing Kia to Hyundai - it does not matter who wins. If you have the money to buy one of them, well - don't. Buy a real premium phone instead. :)

I like the HTC, but the non-removable battery is a deal breaker as I am on the move, especially at work, and can't always get to a charger. I do a lot of emails and web and drain my battery pretty good, so I carry a spare. For now, I'm sticking with my Samsung Exhilarate, which can do everything I need it to do, at a fraction of the price of the big boys. With my ICS upgrade, it's like a smaller GS3. That said, these are both awesome devices.
