HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE Review
0. phoneArena 04 Jul 2012, 06:58 posted on
Two years ago when the original HTC DROID Incredible was released by Verizon, it was considered a high-end Android Smartphone, and was followed-up a year later by the HTC DROID Incredible 2. Now with the release of the HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE, Verizon is hoping to capitalize on the two earlier model’s success and have customers upgrade to the newest version – which adds 4G LTE connectivity, a higher resolution display, and faster processor...

Honestly Idk why they released this phone when the Rezound is better in almost every way.

Rezound is ok...I wouldnt say better in almost every way tho. I think everybody is hung up on the size and/or screen res. IMHO...screen res plays a smaller part in the overall experience vs some other things. For me anyway.
One possible area is battery life. The newer hardware in the Inc 4G might do better in that area. It even comes with a lil bigger battery. It has newer LTE hardware and the way its put together might help battery life.
But...this might keep me away from it:
"Our only complaint about the screen is the poor viewing angles and that is it difficult to see in direct sunlight."
You would be surprised how much that takes away from the display after using an Amoled screen phone. Thats one major thing I dont like about the Rezound screen. That and the contrast, brightness seems to be cranked up too high.
And I disagree with the article about call quality and reception of the Rezound. In weaker areas....phone reception and call quality issues of any phone show up alot more. The Rezound didnt do too good in that dept. That and the volume going low on its own while on calls with headphones made for a poor phone experience IMO. 2 Rezounds, 2 sim cards before someone says bad phone. Bad phones? Possible....but there is one phone manufacture I never had to get replaced for phone related issues...might be bad luck who knows.

Hmm, Phonescoop says otherwise about the screen. They managed to get 30+ hours with the phone as well.
I never had those problems with the Rezound though. Even in areas with a marginal signal I still get calls that are loud and clear. I never bothered with the supplied iBeats. Those headphones are muddy sounding, even after burning them in.

Just going by what I see and my experiences.
There is a spot near where I live where I have dropped calls with the Rezound and G Nex repeatedly that my RAZR held on.
I never used the Beats earphones either.

yeah, it's quite believable that would be the case. Motorola Radios are typically top-notch.

rezound uses crapdragon s3
this uses snapdragon s4, much better! this has sense 4, rezound will get sense 3.6 in the future(or sense 4 in a custom rom, but not everything might work)
rezound screen hands down is better

i agree completely. the two main selling points for me on the incredible 4:
the 4" screen. and the s4 processor!!!

According to Phonescoop the battery life of the Incredible is very good and I'm pretty sure it has to do with smaller screen combined with a more efficient processor and a somewhat larger battery. Also this phone was never meant to be flagship, just like the Incredible 2 before it.
I will be stopping in at Verizon tomorrow to get a look at this thing up close before making my decision.

I don't suppose the Rezound has that high quardant score....

Same benchmarks as s3 and clocked lower, less Ram. lol
Techinical marvel the s3 is...
10. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5470; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
i think what happened with the US SIII is that it dropped dual-channel memory in order to have 2GB of RAM. that's why the benchmarks are lower.
1GB w/ dual-channel memory > 2GB w/o dual-channel memory

two things: for the cpu speed JUST OVER CLOCK IT
and I thought this review was kinda harsh. atleast deserved an 8

I gave a thumbs up for what you said about the review.
For overclocking....you need to root and have a custom kernel.
28. jroc74 (Posts: 3625; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
I gotta take back my post about overclocking...lol.
You dont need a custom kernel. I forgot the Droid X, Bionic, RAZR.... basically all phones than cant have a custom kernel... can still be overclocked.

Rezound has a bigger screen, but that doesn't make it better. Look at it like this, the Incredible 4g LTE is $200 on contract, the Rezound is still $300. Only real advantage is the Rezound comes with higher quality headphones. The LTE has a newer Sense version on it, the cpu should use less power, and has the beats integration as well.

My only issue with this phone is its price. Wait until the price drops if you don't wanna get the SGS3.

This phone has a VERY specific market, one that most "power users" don't understand - screen size. I DON'T WANT a big screen.. I want small. I want a phone that fits in my pocket easily and feels like a phone when holding it, not a tablet. I don't watch movies and when I use it for web or pics I can easily zoom in to read what I want. I have other devices for doing that if I need to do it more often than in a pinch. There are more reasons, but the fact is, this is the best 4" phone on the market, period.
Yes, the processor is better than the rezound, and more importantly more efficient, meaning better battery life.
Bottom line: I don't compare a compact car to an SUV or 4 door luxury, so why do you compare a compact smartphone to a near-tablet sized phone? You don't compare 17 inch laptops to ultraportables either. Sure, if you are a gamer, that 10 pound 17 inch laptop is FAR better than a 13" 3.2 pound laptop with less processor, but if you travel and weight is more important than performance or size, then there is a clear choice. It is no different with phones.
If you care most about processor speed and pixels of resolution, get the galaxy. If what matters to you is screen size, then the Inc 4g is the best option out there. I have been waiting for a good replacement for the Inc1 for over a year, and this is it. It is too bad that every phone is thrown in one big review and judged on an equal level.
Personally the only use I see for 4.7 inch screens on phones is when you have a woman carrying a purse who doesn't have to worry about the size of the phone..
22. OptimusOne (Posts: 694; Member since: 22 May 2012)
I see your point. it makes sense. THis phone is also for people who like sense 4.0 too (including me)
btw: thats the same excuse ifanboys give. "I don't need a 4.7 inch phone. I just need a 3.5 inch phone. it can call and text right?" ~ Taco50
IM NOT CALLING YOU AN IFANBOY
IM JUST POINTING IT OUT
25. ILikeBubbles (Posts: 278; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
i understand the fanboy comment lol i know where it's coming from but i'm in the same boat. i have small hands and am a relatively small person. my first smartphone was the HTC Eris with the 3.2" screen, and i upgraded from that straight to the incredible 2. i've found that 4" is my sweet spot. :) i love it! But for some reason i can't emotionally push myself to a screen bigger than 4".. and i've tried to go for the rezound, but i just can't get behind even 4.3"... which i'm sure is a personal problem haha

exactly how i feel!! beautifully illustrated! thank you :D

thankfully i upgraded my device and still got to keep my unlimited data plan. luckily when the upgrade happended, the employee who did it didn't put me under a contract at all. phone for $100 + no contract = blessed.

Im pretty sure im am going to leave phonearena. There reviews are far to harsh and exagerated. They are a little more in depth that phonedog/phonescoop, but at least they sell it for what it is, and honeslty, im due to upgrade this week and this is more than likely what im getting. the rezound is too expensive, and i would never use the beats. This phone has exceptional battery, a pretty bitchin screen, fast, and a decent camera. All of that screams my phone to me, yet i look at this review and i have doubts due to either exageration or them overreviewing things and areas i dont care about. Honeslty phonearena, stop being so picky about things. This is a pretty good damn phone compared to whats out there. Oh, and i looked at the droid 4, which phonearena said had a terrible screen. they were right about that "ghosting" effect thing, but colors really pop and it is quite detailed, so i have no clue what they were talkinb about.

I have had my phone for a few days now and am very happy with it. The size is perfect, it is barely larger than the DInc1, the screen is perfectly good for me, the performance is great, the battery life so far is twice that of the DInc1 even with heavier use, and I think it is made from the perfect materials.
There are a few minor things about sense 4 I am not happy about, but they are incredibly minor things, like texting not showing the date change so I have to look harder at texts to see if they were from today or yesterday, or the font on the clock can't be adjusted.. little things.

Why in the heck would Verizon release this phone? Was it worth delaying the Galaxy S3 a whole week or more? I had the Rezound and it sounds better then this in everyway!!! I had friends that hated the Incredible mainly due to battery life and they switched to Team iPhone...Why not get the HTC ONE?? Best service Worst phones Verizon! Smh
32. FrostyDanny (Posts: 90; Member since: 15 Jul 2012)
BTW I know people will get this for the 4inch screen but the Rezound isn't that much bigger, it feels small in your hand! By numbers yes its bigger but it feels exactly the same in your hand as the Rezound! I think the screen is much better on the Rezound and I had friends who ALL HATED the Incredible 1 and 2
33. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5470; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
the screen barely even matters, it's the S4 and Sense 4 that makes all the difference. the Incredibles have always been popular, well liked phones. the Incredible S/2 became a favorite in the development community.
34. Dkersten (Posts: 3; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
The nearly 10% difference from a 4" to a 4.3" is substantial, if that is a criteria that matters to you. Perhaps not to you, but to others, it is. Plus the difference between the S2 and S3 processors when it comes to battery performance is a big deal as well. I guess you are the type who will wait for the next generation of some technology to come out, then buy the previous generation because it is "just as good". If that is the case, more power to you.. we need people to pick up the old ipad 2's and older phones. Personally though, if I can only upgrade once every 2 years, I am not going to settle for last year's technology when I have the choice of getting this year's..
I am sitting right at 3 days on one charge now with my DInc4G. I guarantee that wouldn't happen with a rezound. I like the ICS, I like sense 4, and when I put this phone next to my DInc1, it is slightly taller but otherwise the same dimensions.. not 10% bigger in each direction. Bigger is NOT always better.
Oh, and depending on where you live, sometimes Verizon is the only choice that makes any sense, so you are stuck with their lineup. That isn't to say that the HTC One X or S would be a better choice than the DInc4G, they are still bigger screens.. For VERIZON, the choice is pretty clear for a 4".. it's this one or the iphone.. and personally I HATE the iphone..
35. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5470; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
you must have misunderstood me. the Incredible is the better buy because of the S4 and Sense 4. I know all about the differences between the S3 and S4. as far as screen size is concerned that's subjective. this phone is obviously for people that want smaller phones just like the Incredible 2 before it.
