HTC Amaze 4G ReviewHTC Amaze 4G 9
HTC Amaze 4G, telling us that we sounded clear but slightly hollow. Overall they rated us an 8/10. Things were good but not great on our end. Voice quality was good but it was a little quiet and distant, with a constant hiss in the background. Despite a beefier battery than the Sensation 4G, the Amaze 4G manages just 6 hours of talk time, 2.25 less than the Sensation.
All things considered the HTC Amaze 4G stands among the best Android devices out there. The upgraded hardware is nice, but the Amaze doesn’t set itself apart from the Sensation 4G all that much. The processer is better, it has more RAM, more internal memory and can theoretically download faster, but at the end of the day these are all just incremental upgrades. With the Sensation 4G only being released in May we’re really not sure why T-Mobile felt the need to pick up the Amaze 4G. It is certainly a better device , but it doesn’t necessary fix the flaws or bring anything really different to the table. If you’re in the market for a new T-Mobile device the Amaze 4G is worth looking at along with the Samsung Galaxy S II, but if you’ve already got a Sensation 4G then you’re not missing much.
Software version of the reviewed unit:
HTC Amaze 4G Video Review:
- Rock solid construction
- Gorgeous qHD Super LCD display
- Blazing fast performance with lots of internal memory
- Disappointing camera and video performance
- Battery life
- Thick and heavy

Wasn't one of the major highlights of this phone its camera? Geez
3. XiphiasGladius (Posts: 813; Member since: 21 Aug 2011)
Yes, the Sensor is said to be better (I guess).

yeah, just to show proof that camera is still not HTC strong point...

On t-mobile website, it says that the phone has a maximum speed of 42 mbps.. and they are bragging it.. but down at the bottom, written in little fonts, it says 42 mbps not available everywhere.. what is that?

I hope you're posting this from your iPhone 4S, or you must already be bored with all it's "new" features.
9. lubba (Posts: 1313; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
Why did you moderate this comment. Doesn't make sense! Is there favoritism or biasm involved here?
13. paynekiller (Posts: 139; Member since: 24 May 2010)
I didn't moderate it, I only replied. Dont know who reported.

I'm sorry i meant the author of this article.

Perhaps PA is now showing favoritism. Whatever happened to freedom of speech?
18. PhoneArena Team (Posts: 258; Member since: 27 Jun 2006)
Your post is trolling. If you continue posting this way (and getting moderated) you will get banned.
21. The_Miz (Posts: 1496; Member since: 06 Apr 2011)
You know what, this is full of crap. I expected nothing less from PA, same ones who love taking subtle potshots in some of the tripe they call articles. Whatever happened to freedom of speech?
It's a known fact that HTC phones are not exactly the "best" Android phones. Course, I'm sure your "sponsors" wouldn't like badmouthing, which is why my innocent comment was moderated.
25. lubba (Posts: 1313; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
Honestly I'm starting to see this in PA. They were never like this before. Is there such a thing as an unbiased journalist?
26. PhoneArena Team (Posts: 258; Member since: 27 Jun 2006)
Your comment was moderated because it is just trolling.

Actually Android phones are so boringly repetitive.
16. kshell1 (Posts: 1143; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
well iphones are to think about it all they do is give small incremental improvements over the last iteration of their phone just like android does except androids os actually shows improvement over time unlike ios which has had extremely small changes over the last couple of years
11. kshell1 (Posts: 1143; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
if you hate android so much why do you constantly comment on android post?
29. GeekMovement (Posts: 2142; Member since: 09 Sep 2011)
I guess he's interested in the latest technology just as we are interested in the specs of the latest iPhone and such, but his comments are rather worthless and meaningless, so I don't know why he bothers, but yes he is trolling.
Freedom of speech? What kind of dumb reasoning? Each website has its own set of regulations and trolling seems to be out of it, so if he wants to make his own website that allows trolling, go ahead and he can start posting comments on every anti-android article he writes.
-I'm glad that HTC has stuck around with sense 3.0 a little longer before moving all to 3.5. Personally I think I will miss 3.0. The design tends to be somewhat redundant with HTC with minor adjustments which is why I went with the Epic Touch, but nonetheless exciting to see new product from HTC.

come on when is one of these coming to sprint? I don't want the EVO 3D and T Mobile already has 2 Sensations..

this fixes one of the 3 issues HTC phones face
1. Not great screens
2. Battery life
2. Camera performance
This one fixed the screen problem which Is a good start. I was expecting a better camera though.
Oh well, just have to wait for the Rezound 4G
DAMN This thing sure ain't cheap either.

I have a sensation and its camera is AMAZING!
My mom has the my touch 4g slide made by htc and its even better!
they are all way to expensive though

So do I the camera is ok at best. Indoor shots suck and outdoor shots are ok. Video is great but screen sunlight legibility could be better.

This phone was released way too soon. It's simply a "slightly" better Sensation. And the Sensation looks better in my opinion.
24. toaster (Posts: 114; Member since: 13 Sep 2011)
Hmm, definitely not worth $259 on contract. I'd rather the Sensation XE. It's smaller without sacrificing screen size and has Beats Audio which should please us audiophiles. Too bad it's not making it to this side of the pond D: Truth be told, I'd rather a Moto or a Samsung phone until HTC ditches the horrid Qualcomm S3 chips that can barely power TW4, much less HTC Sense. All the bump in GHz seems to have done is decrease battery life.
27. corona (Posts: 2; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
Cpu isnt better than the one in the EVO3d, Sensation 4g, its just overclocked higher.
28. corona (Posts: 2; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
And its the same S3 chip they're using as well, its just oc'd higher than the EVO and S4

Great HTC phone... Yes
but it has one major downfall, The bluetooth issues.
Both the sensation and the Amaze have issues when it comes to bluetooth.
It does not matter the brand of BT headset you get they snap crackle pop, drop calls, echo, voice dialing is a pain because it just won't call who you say to call and only when it feels lke it it gets it right.
I miss my Evo w Sprint but not the pricey charges.
To top it off after factory resets and all kinds of call to HTC, their waranty Department suggest that I send them the unit at my expense, if the problem is physical it could cost me from 80-340 dollars.( my unit is only a month old) but what will I use while they attempt to resolve the issue? Don't you have a spare phone lying around?
Really? Send me your phone and deal with it until we maybe resolve your issue.
HTC has dropped the ball on this one. It is rumored that the BT antenae placement is at the cause of all this. I will wait until I can replace it or maybe get a Rezound if it takes the sim card.

I have had this phone for a year. I HATE it. The camera sucks and isn't as good as it was said to be. When my screen blacks out the phone will disconnect from my wireless network.
When I turn my phone back on it can take up to 30 mins before I have signal again. It will also drop calls even when I have signal and I will lost signal where I shouldn't.
Do not buy this phone because it's more of a headache then anything.
34. DeeCunn (Posts: 1; Member since: 09 Mar 2013)
Awful phone. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!! The phone started off just going black and not being able to have signal from about 10-15 min. Now it is cutting off and cutting on. I have replaced the phone once and now expecting my second replacement for the exact same issue after only a month. I was told after the 3rd replacement they may "consider" giving me a different phone, really. Its ok for the customer to be inconvienced but they still expect your payment on the 1st.
