Google Nexus 10 vs Apple iPad 4
Who knows what it’s all attributed to, whether it’s the optimizations found with the dual-core Exynos processor or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience, but the Nexus 10 delivers the better battery results. So much so that we’re able to get close to two whole days of normal usage on a single charge – versus the average one-day put out by the iPad 4.
Frankly people, we can’t help but wonder in awe about the aggressive pricing attached to the Google Nexus 10. Sure, it might not have the premium build of the iPad 4, nor its mightier camera taking capabilities, but when it proves to be the productivity conscious tablet between the two, aided by the new enhancements of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, it definitely screams more value for the buck. At the moment, we can agree that there are more tablet-optimized third party apps on the iPad, but as always, that gap is lessening as time passes. With a starting price point that $100 less than the iPad 4, the Nexus 10 still manages to enthrall with its magnificent high resolution display, easy video-out functionality, and battery longevity.

Nexus 10 all things better except battery, but still have an amazing battery life... and apps for iPad are better... hope better apps for tablets on android
6. bobfreking55 (Posts: 866; Member since: 15 Jul 2011)
battery? All other reviewers mentioned great battery life.
Also, if you've seen the drop test, for this time, Samsung's Nexus 10 pawned the iPad.
just saying. :) I'm in love with this tablet.

Have you even read the article before commenting? Probably not: "the Nexus 10 delivers the better battery results"

Keep hoping, i don't think you'll see half of the iPad's apps in the upcoming years...

51. iDroid8 (Posts: 155; Member since: 16 Oct 2012)
Nexus devices are not going to have expandable memory from now in IMO
Samsung products with their own UI(Nature UX) will still mostly come with that
58. Tiptronic (Posts: 1; Member since: 31 Dec 2012)
You sound like a complete idiot. Stop typing in Ebonics and try using proper English. Google does a nice job of spreading the love when it comes to choosing manufacturing partners. I think we all wish this device had a micro sd slot but it does not. It is still a great value for what you are getting.

iPad 4 I choose you!!!

you always seemed confused when you post....

Well...lets not give thumbs down for choosing iPad :)
18. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 3062; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
Good...we'll give you down instead!! :P
31. CellularNinja (Posts: 306; Member since: 27 Sep 2011)
You're right we shouldn't. Obviously the reviewer made it clear they are both great tablets! I would take Nexus 10 in a heartbeat. But what's wrong with someone saying they'd choose the iPad? I believe the thumbs down is overused. It should be used for a post that is unclear, untrue, or just a bad comment. This person's opinion isn't 'wrong'.
... and I believe Wendy worded it this way as a reference to pokemon... i.e. "CHARIZARD, I CHOOSE YOU!"
34. shnibz (Posts: 163; Member since: 18 Sep 2011)
@CellularNinja No one on this site seems respect opinions at all. If an android fan sees a comment by an Apple user they automatically give them thumbs down and call them a moron....No class
38. CellularNinja (Posts: 306; Member since: 27 Sep 2011)
Yeah, that's why I think it is misused. You can basically tell how many Apple or Android fans are that read that comment just by looking at the like/dislike count. It's sad. And obviously by my logo I am an Android fan, but that doesn't mean any pro Apple comment or commenter is wrong or bad. There are many Apple fanboys that say stupid things, as well as Android fanboys, that's when the dislike button should be used. This is supposed to be a community open for good discussion.

That was a joke i wrote man!! Sheeshhh...

Google nexus 10, hands down. I love the iPad but just for gaming, but Nexus 10 is a close second for most productive tablet (right after the Note 10.1) and is ahead of the 3rd best (Surface RT) by far. I just hate how developers don't flock to android like they do in iOS (I might be wrong, but when a new retina iPad comes out, nearly everything updates on day 1) though I'm very impressed with the optimisation with the nexus 10 this early, like with N.O.V.A 3, I never thought it'd be "nexus-retina" ready.
7. wando77 (Posts: 409; Member since: 23 Aug 2012)
Can we have nexus 10 vs Galaxy note 10.1 please?
10. _Bone_ (Posts: 2145; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
Not sure if that is necessary, the Note has the Wacom digitizer, the microSD slot and multi-view, but that's about it. You should absolutely go for the Nexus 10 unless you really need accurate sylus input and willing to give up a LOT.
8. _Bone_ (Posts: 2145; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
Dead even for me, but the price tag, the video-friendly aspect ratio, multi-user capabilities, flash support and the regular HDMI, USB ports of the Nexus 10 make it an easy choice for me. Point is: can't go wrong either way, but you do have to give it to Apple when it comes to tablications.
14. networkdood (Posts: 6329; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Just like the Nexus 7, you can buy it and flash true tablet UI on it while keeping the pure stock experienced intacted. And, there are quite a few games available for it. Officially, no flash support for Nexus devices, but there are ways around it.

I love my asus tranformer prime but if I was going to buy a tablet today.. hmmm I think Id wait till 2013 and see what the 8 core tablets will be like
15. networkdood (Posts: 6329; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
I wonder of the zombies in America realize that there are tablets available that are cheaper and better than an iPad...
16. jove39 (Posts: 1383; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
Nexus 10 is awesome...with exynos5 its very powerful...only its gpu is less powerful than ipad4's...SGX554 is more powerful than Mali-604. Probably Mali-658 will be able to outpace SGX554.

Nexus battery win: better battery life than ipad4
Nexus/Android big win vs stale ios
Over nexus 10 is amazing, i bought it 2 weeks ago and am just lovin it... Just hope it did LTE though...
23. Xquisite (Posts: 87; Member since: 23 Apr 2012)
As for me, since I already got a GS3 with JB, I bought myself an iPad. Variety is the spice of life, unless you're a iSheep or Fandroid.

GREAT REVIEW!...........Great review, and it seems only a matter of time before android wipes apple of every excuse for NOT buying anything other than android......
Heres to the Nexus :)
43. feres13 (Posts: 306; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
You can get a nexus 10 and wait 2 years to get half of the ipad's tablet optimized apps, or you can get the iPad, and enjoy it ;)
27. feres13 (Posts: 306; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
Android on a tablet is just CRAP : unoptimized apps for nor the screen size or the resolution, wasted space, dropped frames, even the very few optimized apps look like crap compared to the android version. twitter or facebook are just examples. Also the screen resolution makes apps have tiny buttons or gaves have tiny controls like angry birds that needs a stylus to press on play and a magnifier to view the score.
the 16/10 aspect ratio isn't great : In landscape it's too wide, in portrait it's too tall and narrow, just weird.
And yeah it's great to have a better resolution than the ipad but it's not the only thing : saturation, brightness, contrast are better on the ipad, also it's got a flickering issue ( and i have proof ) : youtube.com/user/nexustenqa
And let's not forget samsung's legendary build quality : youtube.com/watch?v=UUPbjZ6Tl2s .
So yeah i agree that android is GREAT on phones, infact i LOVE the Nexus 4. But if you want a tablet, the iPad is the way to go : it looks better, it performs alot better,it's got better graphics, it's got 275K+ apps optimized for it's screen and most of them for it's retina display, it's built better, it's got up to 64Gb of storage and LTE, and it's amazing for gaming thanks to what developer have done or media consumption thaks to it's rich app, itunes, ibooks stores...
the nexus 10 is cheap, ugly, unoptimized, sluggish...
In short : the iPad 4 is ALOT better!
53. iDroid8 (Posts: 155; Member since: 16 Oct 2012)
Optimized apps on Ios are more-though there are more for XGA res. than this retina one
Also android apps scale better on tabs-even WVGA ones work on my friends device eith 1280*800 resolution(1/4th of nexus here, but still now we have FHD screens on phones too!)
I don't know how you got this wierd idea about aspect ratios, maybe we have to wait till Apple themselves get this(like they did for the iPhone lol!)
LTE I dont know why you require that on your tablet
Btw the majority of the world still doesn't have that in their respective countries
Developers are obviously more for android, and they produce equal/better apps at cheaper price(Vice City was released recently for most platforms, noticed the price difference?)
Build quality seems to be a matter of personal taste-i for one liked the S3's design over the One series(though the Xperia range trumps both!)
In short : the Nexus 10 is ALOT better!
61. feres13 (Posts: 306; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
iOS optimised apps are not about scaling, it's apps made for one screen, one aspect ratio, one resolution ( or two ) and there is 300.000 apps for the iPad, on android, not even 1000.IT's insane that you have to scroll twice in the facebook app on android tablets to skip an image, because an app beheaves like a phone app. and a tablet that doesn't run tablet optimised apps is not a tablet and will never be.
For the aspect ratio, you can see more in height in landscape on the iPad (since android tablets are used most of the time in landscape), and in portrait, it feels less top heavy and is wider. A phone is usually used in portrait, but tablets have to be used no matter how the screen orientation is. therefore, the iPad is better.
As for LTE, it's a mobile device so it has to be connected most of the time, therefore the lack of LTE is a dealbreaker for me.
As for devs, their android apps are free because they know that if they released it for even a dollar, they would hack it and download an apk, that's what happened for dead trigger.
So to get money, they put tons of ads in their apps therefore the app is terrible, i would rather pay for an app than have ads on it. as for app quality, first iPad apps are not blown up unoptimised phone apps witch means that their better qulity, and apps are usually better on iOs than on android, most of android apps are a copy of their iOS app, they don't use google's holo ui and it creates fragmentation and there is the menu button issue.instagram when it hit andorid was missing frames and some filters, or path v2.0 that missed filters. And developers make iOS their priority when it comes to developing apps, instagram, path, pocket, and recently temple run 2 came to iOS FIRST.Price and quality aren't relative, remember recent stories saying android is popular because it's cheap??
and saying that plastic is higher end than aluminium is a sign of stupidity.
And by the way, the ipad has more accessories for it
In short : the ipad is and will be the king of tablets, until google will fix it's tablet app situation FOR THE LEAST
28. truckdriver (Posts: 1; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
I definitely give the win to the nexus 10, but in my friend has the nexus 10 and in my opinion it lacks a nice sleek design. This may not be a problem for you, but it is for me. Otherwise I would definitely recommend the nexus 10
30. OSUTIN (Posts: 23; Member since: 28 May 2012)
I found myself disagreeing with something. 2 things actually. If I'm not mistaken, the front facing camera on the Nexus 10 is a 1.9MP shooter, you liars. Also, the screen is not a 16:9 aspect ratio, it is a 8:5 aspect ratio. Get your specs straight. Just compare it to a device that actually has a 16:9 aspect ratio -- the Microsoft Surface, and realize how wrong you are.
32. jphillips63 (Posts: 190; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
AS I quote you here "Even though they’re capable of playing high definition videos without a single hiccup, the 16:9 aspect ratio of the Nexus 10 display makes it the more ideal candidate – even more when there’s some conversion needed to get 1080p videos onto the iPad 4."
Now try reading a news article or a book with a 16:9 aspect screen and see just how difficult it can be over the Ipad 4. Also check those true colors with a collimator between the 2 and I'd be willing to bet the Iapd 4 colors are more accurate. Next how about trying to check the edges of letters and see which is less jagged or pixled.
I'm sure both tablets are great but each has the strong points and each has there weak points. The largest weak point with android tablets are the apps, I'm unsure what apple did to keep aspect ratios the same from the Iphone to the Ipad but what ever they did it just works.
I waited on Google to release there tablet in stores but they didn't so on Black Friday I bought the Ipad 4 and no I'm not an Apple fan but they do have a few things they did do right and coming from the xoom there's just no comparison between the two tablets.
33. Edmund (Posts: 656; Member since: 13 Jul 2012)
Again, let me point out the "BIAS" : Where is the MS Surface tablet in this comparison ??
37. AlexWII (Posts: 8; Member since: 27 Oct 2012)
Ipad4 is (today) the best choice... Ok for $100 less you can have a "similar" powerfull tablet... but without optimized applications... So you will have to wait one or two years before Android apps on tablet catch up IOS tablets applications... mean that in two years your Nexus 10 will be totally obsolete !!! So if you want to buy a tablet for using it NOW... pay a (little) more and buy an IPAD4... If you want to buy a tablet cheaper than the Ipad4 just for saying.. hey i have a cheaper tablet than iPad with same technical capabilities... you will be wrong because you will have a nice / powerfull tablet... but without good apps... Mean that you will finnaly pay a lot. The Ipad4 is today simply the best tablet (regarding technical capabilities and applications).

build quality and design = ipad 4
the rest = nexus 10 all the way
41. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4144; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
I'm actually partial to the Nexus 10 in terms of design/build. Yes, the iPad does use quality metal, but it's a bit too slippery for my tastes, I rather enjoy the grip of the Nexus 10. Also, the iPad is too blocky and feels kind of awkward to me, while I like the curves of the Nexus 10.
That's just my opinion though.
42. feres13 (Posts: 306; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
How about tablet optimized apps??? LTE ??? Faster GPU and better gaming??? 64 GB of storage ??? Rich multimedia stores ( itunes, ibooks...)??? Check your facts before posting...
47. versechoruscurse (Posts: 1; Member since: 12 Dec 2012)
Tablet optimized apps. Fair enough.
LTE? Fair enough.
Faster GPU - Show me a benchmark, otherwise no dice.
64GB of storage. Can iPad do USB OTG? This is a major win for Android.
Rich multimedia stores. I've had no issue with Google Play.
You should really take a look at the competition before posting.
55. feres13 (Posts: 306; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
Faster GPU : check anandtech
64 GB of storage : the nexus 10 requires root for using USB OTG, and can you install apps on it???
Rich multimedia stores : it's a fact : have you seen an artist saying a song is " available on google play "??? iTunes has been there for a while and has more content worldwide, unlike google play witch is already limited in the US, while in olther countries they don't even have Play Movies & Tv shows and barely got Play Music...
45. tggoulart (Posts: 24; Member since: 22 Jun 2012)
i like more the ipad 4 because the optimized ipad apps
46. eddo85 (Posts: 11; Member since: 03 Dec 2012)
i really would love to see this super high resolution on a nexus 7 :)
49. yajia1 (Posts: 115; Member since: 22 Aug 2012)
Is the aspect ratio of Nexus 10 really 16:9? If it is, that's great since I watch movies and youtube on my tablet most of the time, if not surfing the net. Does it support USB OTG? And lastly, does it support .wmv, .avi, and .mts video formats as well as SRT files for subtitle? I love watching movies in my Note2 with subtitles. Please answer anyone, if it does, I'm going to buy it over iPad4 even if in my country, they costs the same($500).
56. LanaAdorable73 (Posts: 1; Member since: 30 Dec 2012)
I NEED HELP!!!! What should i pick nexus 10 or apple ipad 4 i don't know which o to choose ;((((
57. Dylanator (Posts: 1; Member since: 31 Dec 2012)
It was a good review but I feel there were some things that are off... First off you wrote that both devices have a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera.. But actually the Nexus 10 has a 1.9 megapixel camera.. Secondly, you mentioned the lightning connector on the iPad and compared it with the micro USB slot on the Nexus 10, but that is misleading because you have left out the pogo connector on the Nexus 10 which is supposed to charge much faster than the USB connector.... Thanks for the review
Richard (commenting via Nexus 10)
59. nrupesh (Posts: 1; Member since: 07 Jan 2013)
Nexus 10 has 1.9mp front camera and iPad 4 has 1.3mp.
