Camera comparison: Nokia Lumia 925 vs Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy Note II
0. phoneArena 27 Jun 2013, 04:23 posted on
The Nokia Lumia 925 is supposed to be a great cameraphone, but is that really the case? And is the smartphone's camera as potent as those on the current high-ends? Well, thats what were here to find out. We've brought along a handful of smartphones to compare the 925 against – the 13MP Samsung Galaxy S4, the HTC One with its 4MP “Ultrapixel” camera, the iPhone 5 with its 8MP snapper, and the Samsung Galaxy Note II packing an 8MP camera...

Seeing gnote 2 get a higher score than HTC one on the final page is enough to ignore the rest of the pages.

But why is it a problem if the taken pictures are really better than those from HTC? I love One too, but I´m not glorifying those awful pictures, because THEY ARE FAR BEHIND GOOD QUALITY...

i personlly believe that iphone has the best camera

Its not your personal opinion. Its a fact.

s4 has better camera than ip5, its a fact..
20. raunak (Posts: 490; Member since: 12 Oct 2011)
I'm pretty sure 925 has a better camera than S4 and a few other sites have said so too. The way I see it, S4 provides better images in good light, but only slightly. In the night however, 925 absolutely crushes S4 and it's images are totally useless. So I'd rather take a phone with good day light and awesome low light capabilities than slightly better day light images and totally rubbish low light images.

somehow, i dont feel like trusting phonearena with camera comparisons...
32. raunak (Posts: 490; Member since: 12 Oct 2011)
I got that when in the iPhone 5 vs 920 comparison, they said that 920 was overall better, but then in other comparisons they said iPhone 5 was better. It may have been because of different writers but it shouldn't happen. Very confusing and inconsistent.
77. iushnt (Posts: 471; Member since: 06 Feb 2013)
i agree lumia takes better pictures at night but however s4 takes good night photos too..iPhone5 is the worst in low light photography
105. maccess (Posts: 479; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
few other sites always forgot to turn on night mode on gs4.. even gs3 has pretty good result in low light as long as you turn on the night mode..
114. raunak (Posts: 490; Member since: 12 Oct 2011)
Night mode is not worth it if you don't have OIS. These shots PA have taken, they're using tripod. Same applies to videos.

LOL at the extremely overhyped ULTRAPIXEL
they need to kill that lame tech ASAP
27. MrKoles (Posts: 278; Member since: 20 Jan 2013)
I totally agree! They tried to be a bit mainstream (and thats a symphatetic effort ), but the results are not so convincing.
34. raunak (Posts: 490; Member since: 12 Oct 2011)
They'll need more than 4 ultrapixels, Just that.
46. CanYouSeeTheLight (Posts: 640; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
Well, as someone who bought a One about two days ago i actually enjoy the "overhyped" ULTRAPIXEL, give it a try and then you can tell me its overhyped, you are known for hating on everything, the Ultrapixel is very twitchy and the results vary a lot, it captures so many light it can make things look blown out at night, you need to focus very well, and focusing on different parts of an image will give you completely different results in terms of light.

I think the One is good for general pictures (although not for my usage because I crop a lot my photos and need high-def to take pictures of books), but the One lacks a lot of software optimization.

This is not the first time though but still I don't know why Nokia Always scores low in PhoneArena camera comparison which is exactly opposite to the other websites.
Anyhow, Nokia 925 is still holds good in this test as far as the test results are concerned in regular conditions and still miles ahead of the competition in all kinds of low light scenarios.
This is my review. Red/Green Is If your View :P

they used the snapdragon version S4? PA why dont you use the exynos version instead, its been proven that it takes better pictures than the snapdragon S4 since it uses exmor RS instead of exmor R on the snapdragon.

I cant believe it. This guy is so biased toward iphone that he is giving it te highest marks everywhere!! The results are so clear, there is a clear difference between iphone 5 and Samsung Iv pictures. Also I wonder if the iphone pics posted here are real coz my friend has an iphone 5 and it clicks nonsense pics and thus he prefers pics to be clicked by our phones. Apple iphone is not at all a camera phone, so y is it included in all cameraphone comparisions. it has nothing great compared to today's camera phones!!! This site is being paid by apple, looks like dat!!!! coz they can never stop bragging abt the iphone!! give us a break guys!!! and how can nokia lumia 925 be bad in low light!!! which world is this guy living in!!!! don't post crap to prove that ur iphone is better!!! the market share for apple is sliding and dats gonna continue, ad den website will either sink with apple or find a new host like a parasite!!!

Why do I feel that the verge, Engadget, Gizmodo, mobileburn, slashgear, gsmarena, etc, will rate the Lumia 925 better? Perhaps because even the 920 was well-placed in those, and the 925 is even better.
106. maccess (Posts: 479; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
you sure gsmarena will rate lumia 925 better?? please re check the photo comparison and talk..
47. ncallan (Posts: 13; Member since: 15 Mar 2013)
Surprised by the placing of HTC one. I personally have owned a lot of recent smartphones including galaxy s3 and iPhone 4S and have found the one to consistently produce some of the best pictures I've seen from a phone cam, especially in low light conditions. Agreed that detail severely lacks in crops due to low MP count otherwise images are very sharp and well exposed.
51. ama3654 (Posts: 233; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
PA can you try the S4 i9500, it uses the new Sony Exmor RS sensor with significantly sharper photos and better low light than the Snapdragon version(Exmor R).
55. darkkjedii (Posts: 9317; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
To me the 925, and ip5 had the best shots.
62. Potato. (banned) (Posts: 607; Member since: 14 Jun 2013)
You should check Gizmodo's camera comparsion.
HTC One, L920 and i5 are the best camera phones right now according to their "UNBIASED REVIEW"
108. deburocks (Posts: 126; Member since: 20 Apr 2013)
agreed. ! Have tried note 2, lumia 920, htc one , s3 and s4 cameras. Lumia 920 is best along vid htc one. Iphn comes 2nd and frankly sammy pics luk gud only on its good screens , if u watch it over a big lcd or led and compare then you will realise the real deal. .
58. Edmund (Posts: 646; Member since: 13 Jul 2012)
another bull$hit camera comparison from phone arena. The Lumia 925 wins hands down due to its overall versatility in all conditions.
If you clowns want to compare detail and colour accuracy on cameraphones, then use the 808 Pureview. Of course that would make the s4 and iphone look like potato cameras by comparison, so I doubt that would happen.
59. dex-4 (Posts: 22; Member since: 09 Dec 2010)
How about some more low light tests and action shots? Or are you just playing to the strengths of Samsung and Iphone.
76. Altair (Posts: 298; Member since: 02 Feb 2012)
I would not put any weight on this "comparison". The way how the guy has taken all these photos gives advantage for SG4 etc.
Look at photos. You can clearly see, that almost EVERY SINGLE photo with SG4 has been taken closer than with 925. SG4 photos are taken with optimal condition while 925 not.
Me and my friends have been playing with my 920, iPhone 5 and SG4 for a long time. We have like 2000 photos taken from our trips. We all three are agreeing that 920 is taking the best photos in ALL light conditions. iPhone photos are extremly bad if light source near source. SG4 takes average photos and VERY poor ones in low light. There is no question about this fact.
This guy obviously favors SG4 and iPhone. There are a lot better and more professional test made by others. Look at them and skip this one.
101. Jason2k13 (Posts: 554; Member since: 28 Mar 2013)
i dont think you or any of your friends own the SG4, because the SG4 has a smaller field of view compared to the rest, meaning pictures appear closer than they really are.
Say hi to your "friends" for me.

S4 camera is amazing, really really amazing
89. Nephylim (Posts: 131; Member since: 04 Apr 2013)
Ahhh, Btw... there is MEA and MF5 firmwares !!! ;)
95. DeejayReact (Posts: 18; Member since: 14 Jun 2013)
and the HTC ONE is built 50 times better then any of the other phones mentioned... I will take that and a decent CELLPHONE camera over crap iPhone with thier outdated OS, and Samsung with thier plastic body design. I just bought a One and I was oming from a Note2...The colors and depth of field on the One BLOWS THE NOTE 2 OUT OF THE WATER. I am not a samsung hater at all, either as I have owned plenty of Samsung products =)
Lack of "megapixels" doesnt bother me considering if I am taking REAL PHOTOS, I am using a REAL CAMERA. For media sharing ala facebook and instagram, the HTC One does the job. It is also one the the best low light shooters on the cell phone market.
Just expressing my opinion, so no need for asshole replys! Thanks.

Nokia and HTC with their 'hype' about their cameras. Shame that they perform poorly. S4 has the best camera
116. Damo579 (Posts: 117; Member since: 18 May 2013)
The s4 takes great daytime photos but the lumia 92x phones take great photos also they aren't overhyped. This site is to contradicting when it comes to camera comparisons.
104. GamasK (Posts: 22; Member since: 27 Jun 2013)
What? Note 2 better than HTC One and Lumia 925!?
107. deburocks (Posts: 126; Member since: 20 Apr 2013)
anod biased comparison from samsungarena.... Some of the pics have too much white in it in case of samsung. Where the walls are overblown with too much contrast just to prove its capturing too much light. 2ndly 925 has beter sharpness in real world pics as compared to sammy n apple. And forget about night shots , which sammy and iphn will take another thousand years to match nokia. well one more thing some 925 pics not taken frm default settings. Phonearena stop lying like please . Other websites clearly making 925 the winner but its just the opposite with phonearena. . Anyways samsungarena, let eos come then again do the photoshoot, and we already know who will be the clear winner.
110. Edmund (Posts: 646; Member since: 13 Jul 2012)
This comparison lost all credibility when it put the note 2 (which clearly takes aweful pictures) ahead of the Lumia 925 and HTC One.
111. maccess (Posts: 479; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
you didn't own note 2 did you?? have you tried those three phones?? then quite please..
112. o7o (Posts: 37; Member since: 26 Jun 2009)
So, you're actually saying at the end that Lumia 925 got higher score than Note II, but at the beginning you rank Note II higher and giving it 8 points?
113. magman (Posts: 4; Member since: 16 Jan 2012)
"Night mode photos taken with the HTC One look pretty much the same as the ones captured in automatic mode." That right there tells me they don't know what they're talking about
115. arnoldjulians (Posts: 2; Member since: 26 Jun 2013)
iPhoneArena biased review. Even Galaxy Note 2 takes picture better than iPhone. And why Nokia can't be the best?
119. rromerof (Posts: 15; Member since: 28 Nov 2012)
PA, I'm not surprised about your crappy comparision. Since I know that this site has always had bias against nokia or windows phone. So I consider the camera comparision is up to the person that makes it, subjective. You're nothing but FANBOYS!
120. cdgoin (Posts: 355; Member since: 28 Jul 2010)
Are these people smoking crack..? I have taken test pictures in teh store and it was OBVIOUS the 925 was sharper and better focused than any of these. They seem to be VERY biased here to the point its questionable if they get paid by Samsung and Apple. They always the same shots, and see stuff in them I sure as heck can't.. then to add to that.. you know they are taking the pictures on a stable platform.. NO ONE USES Thier phone like that. Try taking the pictures without adjusting any settings and while its in your HAND.. CLEAR Winner in that contest is the Nokia. That is also how people use thier phones as well.
