Apple iPhone 4 vs. HTC EVO 4G: side by side
0. phoneArena 28 Jun 2010, 10:00 posted on
It was bound to happen at some point, but being two of the heavy hitters on the block this summer, it was only inevitable before the Apple iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G were pitted against one another. Now that these two juggernauts are heading on a collision course towards one another, we'll compare them side by side to give you a better understanding of how they stack up...

So, iPhone 4: •build quality •display •smoother browsing experience •smoother OS •battery life •camera •music player •apps •smoother video chat with nonneed for another app(only on wifi) EVO 4G: •display size •deeper browsing experience with flash •data connectivity •homescreen •video chat over cellular(w/compatible app) The greatest thing is that where one phone leads the other isn't far behind, bottom line is anyone would be lucky to have either of these flagship devices.

Based on this article and the and the difference in value between sprint and att, I have to give this one to the evo 4g. It simply has more to offer in terms of functionality, user control/customization, and value. I can only speak for myself being a mobile handset aficionado; being that what is important to me in a mobile device may have nil importance to the average user (which would be more attracted to the aesthetics and polish of the hardware and software rather than it's core functionality)

iPhone 4 for me. Besides, Sprints tiny network doesn't do me any good.

you must be referring to voice coverage, even though phones today primarily use data(3g) to make calls, in which we all like to laugh at at&t's data coverage. i don't think i've ever seen someone boast about the carrier that iphone is on lol.

Tiny Network? I hope your talking bout GSM vs CDMA cause if you are then your right ATT does beat Sprint with its Worldwide Coverage. BUT..............I hope your not talking bout Sprint's 3G service vs ATT's 3G service cause if you are then your a moron. Sprint AND Verizon have more 3G coverage than ATT EVER will.... they may cover 97% of people (using EDGE) but they don't cover them with 3G service.

sprint actually claims to have the largest voice network in the country as well, international excluded of course

I have an EVO and in my opinion the Iphone 4 is nowhere as good. and the gap between the two will get even bigger with the release of froyo. YES SPRINT ALREADY SAID WE'RE GETTING IT SOON. Talk about kicking dirt in apples face and laughing at them as the run home crying.lol. ALSO lets see how much u like AT&T's coverage when EVERYBODY upgrades to the new iphone. did you hear about all the dropped calls and.... well calls that couldnt even be made in the first place. Never had that issue with sprint. and im DAMN sure not paying anywhere near $100 a month even with the $10 4g charge(well worth it if u live in a 4g area like me).

i just wish the evo had as good of a camera and camcorder as the iphone. thats the only thing that bugs me! i have the evo 4g. i went to at&t to compare the display and its not that big of a difference. the music player isn't as great but its usable. i almost wanted an iphone just cause of the fact its camera and camcorder are a million times better but i'll live. i live in kansas city where they have 4g but its so spotty that its not strong enough anywhere that i've been. so it came down to which one was more fun to use and i'm not a big fan of nothing but icons on the home screen. widgets and custom roms and so much more are a tech geeks dream. i love big displays and high quality youtube as well. high quality youtube is a big deal.

I used to be anti apple because their hardware specs and is wasn't good enough and I was all about the android os. But when the iPhone 4 came out, I had to give it a try. And I'm happy I did. 4 days with the phone and I have no regrets. Well the reception thing is very annoying to me and I hope apple fixes it. Point is either phone you choose you will be happy. Face chat is an awesome experience and very smooth. I'm also thinking there will be more people with iPhone 4s and they will be more successful getting people to do the face chat because of how many customers they have with iPhone 4.

thank you. they always compare every phone to it and they never have a verdict in their conclusions as to which smart phone is the better contender.

I wanted the EVO 4G, but decided to save money and just add a line to wife's plan - HTC ARIA is a great alternative to either phone...and gets better reception than 3GS

Bit dull of a comparison as expected, phonearea always love to suck up to the Iphone in every comparison, doesn't matter much to me cause I'm waiting on the Epic, but still if only they reviewed and compared without the usual bias.

Bottom line is both are great phones. I was seriously thinking about getting the iPhone, the only problem is most of my buddies with iPhones are now starting to admit how BAD the ATT network really is (not counting the iPhone 4 reception issue), and it takes a lot for these guys to admit to something like that. On the other hand, other people I know with Sprint and Verizon are very happy with their service.

I am very happy that Apple finally stepped up with an improvement on the camera and the video quality, but again and again they always manage to isolate the user with internal memory and a non removable battery. And, for the icing on the cake, they have limited the data usage with a crappy plan that basically functions as a meter on a taxi cab. The further you go- the more you have to pay!!! Apparently, there are fools out there that just don't care about bills! (la-la land) My Verdict: Design and functionality: APPLE Workhorse and Bang-for-the-buck Phone Bill: EVO 4G (Sprint) See... all the folks are hyped-up for now, but these are the same folks that haven't got their first bill in the mail. LOOK! Unlimited data is the way to go! Your letting AT&T and Apple put the leash on the endless possibilities mobile technology has to offer. (i.e. watching the FIFA world cup on a phone - LIVE- and for FREE!)

Lets try to break this down as reasonable on all levels as possible: NETWORK: VOICE: Sprint #2 dropped calls AT&T #3 - Advantage Sprint (www.inverstorplace.com) DATA: Sprints 3G covers more people in USA and has 4G in 30+ cities, 14 more by summers end, and 120 million by years end, with 2 data cards and 1 handset (EPIC 4G soon so 2) soon. - Advantage Sprint PLANS: Everything Data 450 (anymobile in the USA and unlimited everything else + $10 4G) = $79.99 and all other plans = $30-$40 cheaper a month over AT&T & Verizon = Advantage Sprint DEVICE: Screen is a wash; clearer vs. bigger Camera is a wash; clearer vs. more megapixels (can be debated by for arguments sake) Build quality; depends, pretty = iphone; but the antenna wraps around it and if you hold it wrong there goes your call - so for the sake of it lets call that a wash Device Features: EVO = 4G/3G iphone = 3G - EVO wins EVO = 50,000 or so Apps iphone = 100,000 + = Advantage iphone (once you go over a few hundred what really matters)? EVO = kickstand EVO = MOBILE HOTSPOT for up to 8 devices for only $29.99 a month with NO DATA cap on 3G or 4G ***why isnt this mentioned more often when comparing the EVO to other devices this is huge! EVO- HDMI OUT I mean really.. iphone is great but EVO is CLEARLY a superior device on a superior network EVO = 9.7 iphone = 9.0 Sprint = 9.0 AT&T = 8.0 IMO

I purchased the EVO and absolutely loved it. However, I had to return it since the areas I frequent occasionally do not have Sprint service. I tried. Ended up getting the iphone 3GS. Returned it the next day. I was spoiled by service where I could download apps, access internet, watch tv and get navigation without restrictions and needing a credit card. Since AT&T doesn't have an adequate phone I am tempted to go back and get the EVO and simply accept not having phone service in some areas, the release from technology might not be a bad thing. Better than a substandard phone. Have thought of going to Verizon and getting the Incredible.

Sprint and Verizon have roaming agreements so if you dont have Sprint service your either not using roaming or you live in Northwest South Dakota in a cave lol :P jk
