Apple iPad 3 vs Asus Transformer Prime

0. phoneArena 22 Mar 2012, 07:10 posted on

Naturally, there is only one Android based tablet that can give the new iPad a run for its money, and surely enough, the Asus Transformer Prime is bent on showing why it’s that other benchmark device. Honestly, it’s a clash of the titans with these two behemoths, but much like everything else, there can only be one that can reign supreme from the ashes of battle...

Ok but what about the wifi issues? I mean MANY users have reported that the prime has AWEFUL wifi reception and that is to me a major issue.

I don't know any keyboard docks for iPad that functions anything close to the transformer's own keyboard seems to with the tablet itself and if there is anything close for iPad I would appreciate details because I didn't see any keyboard docks for the iPad in my country, Turkey (I actually didn't search specifically for them since this is news to me and I didn't come across any while I looked up a lot to do with iPad2 a while ago)
so, either I must have somehow missed them completely or they aren't sold here in stores
I should check out if there is any decent ones in the U.S. since I rather buy the original apple products from there if I can (get someone I know to pick it up for me while they're there and bring it over for me, since I don't plan to come over there anytime soon) because they're a lot more pricey here... many other brands are also pricey, a little to a lot, apple being quite a lot...

by the way, I'm a mac user so I was quite interested in iPad and nothing else seemed to be better (although more affordable) until the transformer prime which I found seriously impressive and android seems quite useful to me as long as the brand version doesn't spoil it

everyone has their own opinion on which would win, in my opinion the prime wins because i love android but there are others who would go for the new ipad because of ios.

When Android down right beats iDevice = Tie, "They're both good in their own way"

When iDevice beats Android (Thru PA's weird judgement or VS a old model) = iDevice Wins

Oh well, can't say I wasn't expecting that verdict...

Actually Apple has a huge benefit that they control their OS,Phone,Tablets and App store.....Google can't control them as they doesn't make phones or tablets...And Google doesn't approve applications so sometimes they contain malware and virus....As Apple approves the apps, they are always rich in quality and they can develop according to their device....Hope Google starts to make their own products, until then i'm with Apple...:)
P.S. Android=Freedom

I did like that person photo bombing the parking lot pic! I was trying to see if the detail was good enought to read the license plate frame on the Hyandai.I could read the plate ZAC 45C, but not the frame.

great comparison...

and once again you cant please people at all...

its funny that you guys adore an "open" system but are so "closed" minded when it comes to something like this... why do yall need PA to tell yall the iPad is better or the Prime is better?

Go out and buy what YOU think is the best... GEEZ!!!

Good point lol... People act like if they diss your device you'll go out, and purchase the one they like. For crying out loud I wish I would go out, and waste my time, and money doing that. I have an iPad 3, and will be keeping it till the next one comes out. I have tons of apps, games, pics, videos, and other files on it. I'm deeply vested in ios so why on earth should I leave it. Who leaves chase bank for B of A, cuz some one who likes B of A disses chase? When u said GEEZ, u couldn't have said it any better... By the way im about to throw my new iPad in the trash, and go get a prime, then trash it when some one says something else is better lmao!!!

Fair, and accurate review, John V. Even if John recommended the Asus, it would not adversely affect the new iPad (or iPad 2, for that matter) in terms of sales.

At the end of the day, people are going to choose what they DESIRE to use - sure, they will take into account various reviews, and some in store hands - on time with the device, but ultimately, they will choose what they desire to use.

At this point, the iPad has an established brand, so no matter what, it's going to sell.

The micro doto of the rear speakers are exactly equal... Look at minute 2:52.. Maybe Apple is going to sue Asus for a patent.. LOL

My preference is the prime, but the Ipad have a wonderful display.

Im sorry but this review is arguably quite biased. The 3rd Gen iPad has a better camera? Really? They are identical camera's, literally identical; both are the exact same Camera used in the iPhone 4S, although the Transformer Prime keeps the camera the exact same at 8MP, the iPad downscales the resolution to 5MP. They are the exact same camera just the Prime has a higher Megapixel count! Even if Megapixels don't always count when comparing 2 different cams, when comparing the same they do! Even with Apples special iSight improvements, the Prime's cam is still better! And thats talking from experience between looking at each next to each other! Secondly, you stated the iPad 3 is a hairline faster, but stated it was only in gallery and browser, firstly BOTH APPS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT ON EACH PLATFORM!!! The Gallery App and Browser on iOS could be highly different than the ones on Android so thats not a fair comparison! If you really want to compare their speeds use apps that are the same on both softwares, e.g. a game like World Of Goo's loading times, or opening an app thats identical on each OS!! But PhoneArena is TOO BAISED to test that, because they know the Prime's 1.3GHz Quad Core Processor will easily beat the A5X 1GHz Dual Core Processor in any fair comparison! And I love how they merely mention the Prime has a "Tegra 3 Quad Core Processor", and say nothing about its 1.3GHz Clock Speed or 12-Core Graphics but they detail the iPad 3's 1GHz Dual Core Processor and Quad Core Graphics, merely because they knew that in theory the Tegra 3 sounds a lot faster. And lastly they only said both tablets were the best at the end because they knew if they said the iPad 3 was better people would've seen how biased iPhoneArena.com really is.

I disagree. I'm not sure if you have both tablets in your possession right now and snapped the same shots with each, but if you do, you'll find the same results that I experienced. Details are identical, but the iPad handles lower lighting better, though, as I've mentioned, the Prime has an LED flash for compensation.

Good point John. I agree, and in the video it pretty obvious as to which is better at photo, and video. Apple

And u said all that to say what? How bout this... If u don't like John V's comparison, go spend $1,080 for both devices, and do your own comparison. Post it on YouTube,or your own website if u have one, and pick your own winner.

Great, but do u think speed alone is gonna make someone buy one over the other? People buy what suits their business, personal, and social lives. They also buy what they trust, and enjoy using the most. I think u should definitely roll with your prime, it's a heck of a device... I'm rolling with my iPad 3. it's what suits me best.

People need to remember that the New is pushing 3 million pixels versus the Prime's 1 million. The fact that the New can keep up with the Prime is noteworthy.

(Same thing when the New is paired up against the iPad 2.)

One "could" say ... I get the same frame rates on the Prime versus the New. So the New "sucks". Again ... the New is pushing 3 times the pixels.

I am going to get dinged for this ... but for me ... what is the main interface of any tablet ... the screen. You will spend more time looking at the thing ... than pushing any button ... swiping ... etc. With these two tablets being so dang close in every other feature ... for me ... I would drop the money on the New because of the screen.

So what happened now, smartypants? Why are all the Handroid fans so quiet? You did not like the previous comparison with the Samsung and wanted the Hasus? Well, here it is. Smoked like the previous yellow brand. Choppy browsing, average battery, average display, not commenting the OS. Now what? Any other reason? :)

LOL.. did John ever mentioned that it was smoked? and what's with that Yellow Brand? trying to be racist?

Cmon, more than 50% who commented here either have android device, or an android fan, and the difference is, we give credits when it is due..
yes, we admit that the iPad has crisper screen and a faster GPU..

what's wrong with you?

A good review John, but:
-What about continue autofocus available in Asus Prime and not in iPad 3 video recording?
-No game testing?
-What about faster speed in loading pages with Prime rather than iPad 3?
