Upcoming Android handset w/o "$10 Premium Data Add-On" ???

Was looking at buying an HTC Evo, but stopped when I saw the mandatory $10 Premium Data add-on (which evidently couldn't be removed, despite the fact 4G isn't available in my area).
Was wondering then if either the upcoming HTC Knight or HTC Hero2 would also require the same $10 add on?? From looking at the phones' descriptions, I wouldn't think so as neither appears to usurp the Evo, but one never knows........

The $10 Premium Data charge will accompany any 4g Sprint phone so if the two you mentioned will be 3g/4g devices, then yes, they will have the charge. If you check around though, even with the $10 extra, Sprint data charges are much better than the competition because it is unlimited and some of the other carriers have switched to metered usage.

4G charges are alright ONLY if they have 4G in your area. I live NEAR a 4G are but not close enough to use it and to make things worse the 4G is nowhere near were I work so 4G could be super duper awesome but I can not use it so why should anyone pay for it? In other words even if $10 extra is better than the competition, why pay $10 more when you can't use it? That is $240+ more for the 2 contract for the EVO or the Epic (that is like paying $440 for the EVO or $490 for the Epic). Intead of getting an Optimus S for free.

yeah except the $10 add on also applies to the optimus s.

its funny how ppl jump onto phones just because its the "latest greates" and dont even look what the features are or the price. you say you want because you saw it on a commercial, or a bunch of ppl you that has it..
Evo is a great devices if you are going to be using all the features. *
* mobile hotspot.
* duel camera ..... 8megapix back camera with flash
* kick stand to kick it back and browse the web or watch tv.*
* high speeds *
the list goes on....
So as for the price it is fair since its like pretty much the EVO is like your portable laptop, tv, and phone all in one.. perfect for busniess... people away from home
And sprint is great for the services, the customer serivce ( even tho there is some bad apples bu thats with all call center ) yet Sprint values customers, and coverage for them is imoprtant....... and the plans are cheap...
4g serivces is the best and not like T-mobile where they say its 4g and its not... and its data caped. !!!!
GO sprint GO !

yes, there are other phones that sprint offer , that doesnt require the 10$ add on that has alot of the same features as the EVO or the Epic .
LG optimus : mobile hotspot, android,full touch screen, etc....
Samsung Transform: Dual cam, Android, slide out keyboard, touch screen, etc....
Both with SPRINT ID wich is great,
if your not looking for all the bells and whistles but you want to play around with the android platform take a look at these phones.

LG Optimus is OK (although is a so so processor). And the Transform is good but it only has Android 2.1 despite Sprint (now certified false/empty) promise of upgrading it to 2.2 before the end of 2010 (HEY SPRINT 2010 is OVER! You LIED!). A nice phone would be the latest HTC Shift but unfortunately it will also be 4G. I guess Sprint was ahead with the EVO but has fallen behind since it has come up with nothing for a long time.

You better get the phone before Feb 1st before all users are required to have a $10 premium data charge. Now remember this isnt a charge for 4g. Its a charge for premium data (unlimited data no cap) Now that Sprint doesnt offer a $15 charge for tethering most smart phones now can tether for no charge thru certain applications.

For a heads up, i work for radioshack and my sprint rep just told us starting Feb. 1 the 10 premium data will be on every new account and upgrades regardless on what phone you purchase. People with current data will be grandfathered in until they upgrade.

To clarify, the $10 premium data monthly charge will only apply to all smartphones, not feature phones, for all new upgrades and activations.

Just to clear things up the $10 premium data charge will now be applied to any SMARTPHONE activated on an accnt. after the date of 1.30.2011. :)

The premium Data says Premium DATa its not a charge for 4G..The data charge is to ensure that your data is completely unlimited..I would love for you guys to show me on your bill were it says premium data 4g Charge?

All smartphones will have the $10 data charge. It is NOT for the 4g service, it is to help keep the data unlimited and no throttling or metering. There used to be some devices that had the fee waived but that is no more ALL smartphones will have it from now on. The best phone for sprint right now is the EVO LTE. I have been using it since it came out and its my favorite. I had all HTC phones from the start, although i tried the galaxy s3 and was sadly dissapointed at what i couldn't do on the s3 that i know the evo does so i switched right back! HTC also makes the best anntennas in their phones so if you like samsung be prepared for possible signal issues!
