Love it - wish it worked!

Perfect touch sensitivity, excellent music player. Call quality average. Great browser. If only it didn't ddrop calls, lock up and reset requiring battery pull. The more you use it, the more you must pull battery. When it works, I love it. Nokia won't release newwest software to US yet; hope it fixes bugs, but Im done with Nokia for the crappy way they treated buyers of this phone. All retaill, by the way.

Design 9/10
Features 9/10
Performance 4/10

Pros

  • Browser
  • Few Nokia locked garbage programs (but any is too many)
  • Music & video Players
  • Be sure to use Bluetooth 2.0 devices with it
  • size

Cons

  • Crashes
  • Drops calls
  • screen lock button unlocks in your pocket when walking
  • Did I mention Crashes & dropped calls?
  • Poor manufacturer aftermarket support

Great Handset!!!

Bought this handset just 10 days ago. I really liked the features Nokia has put into it. The phone looks a great package, and has 8GB memory card included in the sales package. The Music is good enough, considering it's an Xpress Music phone I was a bit unimpressed with it's sound quality, but while listening to it on the headsets provided, it's awesome. Touch UI is good and helpful, but there is a little lag. Processor should be tweeked up a bit by Nokia to make it better.
Camera is a bit poor when clicking the photos inside a not so brightly lit room, but in the open they're excellent. Should have a Xenon flash instead of Dual-LEDs for clicking photos inside the room.
The battery is claimed to give loads of Talktime and Standby time, but while using it actually with 2-3 apllications running together, it hardly lasts a day. Should have been designed to work more with less frequent charge.
Ultimete phone for it's price otherwise...

Design 9/10
Features 9/10
Performance 8/10

Pros

  • GPS
  • Touch UI
  • QWERTY. Mini-QWERTY, Handwriting and Alphanumeric Keypad writing options
  • Looks
  • Memory
  • 3G Phone
  • Connectivity options

Cons

  • Camera
  • Camera flash
  • Processor speed
  • Battery life

BEST NOKIA EVER

This is probably the 20th phone I'm buying since a decade ago and I have to say it is the best so far in terms of quality, price, and Symbian.
If you're looking for a Symbian OS phone, look no further, this is the one.
I had lots of Symbian Nokias before: E60, E65, E71, E90, N95 8G.
This beats them all and comes closer to the N95 8G only a bigger and better screen and audio quality as well as battery life which is one of the best. It also comes with the same accessories as the N95 8G.

Design 10/10
Features 10/10
Performance 10/10

Pros

  • menu speed
  • video playback quality
  • sound quality
  • fun to use
  • never freezes
  • battery
  • fast bluetooth (120k/s)

Cons

  • games not to be compared with iPhone

9/10 out of the box

It's been 2 weeks since I picked up my 5800 XpressMusic. In 2 weeks I have added apps, widgets, themes, music, and pretty much everything else I could find. While initially the phone was a bit slow (I'm used to the speed of a 6120 Classic), after the latest firmware update (v21) this little gem flies. One notable aspect of this phone is its versatility. From one-handed SMS to full qwerty document creation, from video to gaming, and from phone calls to high-speed data, you can rest assured the 5800 will not let you down. The S60 OS adds to this in may ways, but the pure feature bloat? (I mean this in a good way) ensures you have what you need in a all-in-one device. With all the features I could ask for in a smartphone, the 5800 delivers on all counts. I use it as a GPS device, mobile browser, portable radio, PIM, notes-taker, entertainment device, in-a-pinch camera - and phone. The build quality is good as Nokias go (dropped once, no ill effects), the usability and general experience is excellent, and I would (have) recommend this phone to anyone looking for a touchscreen device.

Design 8/10
Features 9/10
Performance 8/10

Pros

  • Large touch screen, high definition display
  • S60 OS
  • Usability
  • Firmware updated regularly
  • Features - GPS, WiFi, HSDPA, Bluetooth and more

Cons

  • Camera not too great
  • No N-Gage capability
  • First S60v5 device

Nokia 5800 MX for techies

<!-- @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } -->
I recently picked up the Nokia 5800 mx and it's pretty much what you'd expect from Nokia. It's a mid range phone with good call quality, a wealth of features and, with the latest firmware, a stable platform.  The big advantage of this phone over other Asian clones is that is uses the symbian S60 5th edition OS.  This means you can download an SDK to your computer and start developing apps for it using C++, Java or HTML.   iPhone adverts talk about an app for checking a fedex delivery or running a search for the nearest coffee show, well with the ability to write apps in HTML (with Ajax support) you can put up your own app to retrieve the data directly from fedex's web site.  It's just a matter of time before someone does this.  Also, with the up and coming arrival of the n97 (big brother and iPhone rival) the apps will start flooding in and the nokia5800 is posed to take full advantage of these with the same OS as the N97.  With a bit of luck the 5800 will also get a new firmware upgrade with the 07 is released so that it, too, can have multiple shortcut bars on the home page
Also, the touch screen is very sensitive despite being resistive technology, the camera is excellent in daylight, but very poor in low light (regardless of the flash).  menu navigation is reasonable and can be adjusted, screen is bright and generally easy to use.  With it's...

Design 8/10
Features 10/10
Performance 8/10

Pros

  • * Open architecture for loading / writing apps
  • * OS shared with new, iphone rivaling, N97
  • * Screen resolution / sensitivity / brightness
  • * Connectivity (wifi, usb, 3g, ...)
  • * small and easy to handle (little too thick)
  • * It's a Nokia (build quality)
  • * Good battery life

Cons

  • * Home screen can't be tapped (touched) to open menu.
  • * Menu (+ send / end ) buttons are hard to press and should have been touch.
  • * No touch to wake the phone (must use slider on side - ugh)
  • * Processor a little slow (not as snappy as iPhone / eternity)

One of the best on the market.

I have used the iphone, storm, and many windows mobile touch devices. I can easily say that after using this phone for a week, it is more stable and has more features than any of those other phones...

Software Issues

The Nokia 5800 is not so great. Hangs especially when new message is received. Shows memory full, close some allpications even though no applications are open. Even Nokia repair centre colud not solve this software related issues. Was disappointed when they refused to replace defective piece even though in warranty period. Would not recommend to buy. HTC models are better.

A touch revolution by NOKIA!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey recently got this phone ... fell in love it the first time I got it in my hand on the nokia priority (live demo) and i thought of buying a new one... it has been 10 days of me using this and i assure its a true value for money and a multimdia computer ... well to talk about its features ... Camera its good 3.2 mp is fine with me but it would be nice to expect some quality 7-8 mp camera phones from nokia to be in pace with other brand mobile phone cams ... touch and accelerometer is so fast and does make you wait ... touch screen is very sensitive and thus great indeed.. screen' brilliant but not that in the Sun ... it would be nice if the screen was made a bit wider ... music player and sound... Woh!! itzzz beyond clear and loud... its rocking... Well the processing is bit slower than other high end s60 devices by nokia  ...  video playability  is absolute marvellous ... itzz a gem in playing  quality video music  with its bombasting stereo speaker ... voice quality during call is just amazing... web surfing is to die for on 3.2" screen (rocking in landscape mode)... s60 OSS browser just rules...wifi works great...usb connection with laptops or pcs is very fast and reliable...side and main keys are very smooth to work...  main screen doesnt rotate by accelerometer (but who cares) ... touch navigation throgh gps is great ... its got the navigator in it... woh!! it has 81MB intetrnal memory and an 8gb micro SD  and can be expanded to 16 gb...

Design 9/10
Features 8/10
Performance 10/10

Pros

  • Loudness and clarity...wifi... cam with 30fps video recording...huge expandable memory...gps...large display with brilliant colours...good screen resolution... large no. of audio-video formats supported...3.5mm jack ...tv out...large no. of means for data transfer ... & so on

Cons

  • no camera lens cover ... fingerprint and scratch catching body... screen not usable in the sun even on full light sensor

Nokia really did it this time..

Honestly, I don't know what the hype is about the N97, this phone is amazing. I got mine a month ago, and I can't keep my hands off of it. In this last year i'v been through a series of phones looking for the perfect one, it started out with the Nokia N95 which was OK, but to bulky and not a good looking phone at all. Then I went through N82 which was also just ok again to bulky and slow. Then I finally decidied to get into the touch screen phones, first going to Tmobile G1 which I liked but didn't use the Qwerky keypad call me old fashioned but I like the old t9.So then I went to the Lg Dare which I loved but as we all know even though I work for Verizon it's still way to expensive for me. And all their phones are locked you can't do shit with them unless you use their services. So switching back to Tmobile I tried the Samsung Omnia, which was HORRIBLE. I hate windows mobile, if your going to pur your operating system on a touchscreen make it more touch friendly.
Finally I settled with the Samsung Behold, and honesly it was the best out of all them, except for the fact that it didn't have Wifi or a 3.5mm headset jack which ended up being deal breakers for me.

When I finally got this phone I was in LOVE, not only is it eye catching, but it does EVERYTHING i need it to do. The touchscreen is amazing, it's fast, the accelometer works great no delay. The sound quality is beyond flawless making it the best phone and the loudest, the music player and video player are pretty...

Design 8/10
Features 10/10
Performance 8/10

Pros

  • Everything I said above

Cons

  • Software still a little glichy should be fixed with the upcoming software update
  • Camera can be better
  • A Tiny bit bulkier then other touch screens out in the market,

Nokias new 5800 XpressMusic is almost everything you want in a modern phone, it has a large touchscreen, it has Wifi, 3.5mm headphone Jack, Acclerometer sensor, Gps and the list goes on and on... This is a great phone for this price. GOOD JOB NOKIA!

Design 10/10
Features 10/10
Performance 10/10

Pros

  • Good all round phone, could easily give Iphone run for its money as this phone is a lot cheaper and has most of the features the Iphone has.

Cons

  • Not really any, although Multi touch screen would be nice.
