task bar is showing sim card

I'm not sure why the sim card is showing in the task bar but I'd like for it to disappear. My daughter has the same phone and hers is not showing, also the message folder shows as well, sometimes it has an 'e' in it. Does anyone know why these two things are in the taskbar? If so, how do I get rid of them? The book that came with the phone does not go into detail about anything. It is litterally like 10pgs long, lol.

I love this phone, works like a smart phone without the high dollar data plan and it's touch screen!!! Just a few bugs I need to work out.
