Good 7.6

Sidekick 2 - take it or leave it.

I've had my sidekick 2 for aboug 6 months now. It's pretty good, but there are some limitations that I just can't get over.

First of all, you can't expand the memory. Whatever it comes with (I think 16MB), your stuck with.

Next is the fact that you cannot get any content onto the device without paying someone. It comes with a USB cable socket, but there is no support for it unless you become a developer. You can't simply download a midi file (which the Sidekick DOES support) and make it a ringtone, you HAVE to BUY it from Tmobile or Danger or whoever.

Thirdly, you can't change out the battery. If you find your battery charges are lasting not quite as long as they used to (your battery isn't holding it's charge as long), you can't simply change out the battery. You have to (I'm told) send it to Sharp and have them install a new batter. Now, I'm also told that the battery is supposed to last for 3 years. True, in this day and age, who wants to keep a piece of technology for three years? But still, it just seems to me that you should be able to at least change the batteries.

Fourth, what about the software? I've had it for six months and the list of software you can (HAVE TO) buy has not changed. Yeah, this ain't no Palm here where you can get software for it a Staples. I just read that they are putting Java in the next version of the OS (2.3) sometime this summer. While that should increase the amount of software available, how much more of my precious 16MB of memory...

Excellent 9.8

Mobile Communication Excellence

I have had this phone for a while, and it is the best phone I've ever owned. I do a lot of AIM and e-mail, as well as SMS, so the built-in qwerty keyboard is a godsend. I have good reception almost all the time. Sound quality is excellent on either built-in speaker, speakerphone, or headset.

Battery life is quite robust for how much use I put my Sidekick through.

Downloadable apps really help add to the usefulness of this product.

The only additions I would like would be a bigger screen, removable storage, MP3 player, and Javascript support.

For anyone who wants a little more than just talking on the phone, and would use the AIM, SMS, e-mail, or web on the go, I would highly recommend this phone.

Not Good

I did like it when i first bought it. Then.. I noticed.. The screen when its closed and open is ALWAYS exposed. If you drop this phone there is a good chance you are going to crack the screen. If your going to get this, make sure you gental person.

I would get the AT&T OGO ....
