This shows u how greedy apple really is.
5. networkdood posted on 30 Jan 2013, 07:54 10 2
Well, this has nothing to do with apple as most carriers have the same exact smartphone plans across the board for any smartphone. Customers decide on their data plan from the choices given.

This shows how ignorant you're being. Apple has NOTHING to do with carrier plans which btw are the same even for your OS as well.
Your comment on this article was very unjustified.

Dude!!! Apple doesn't discount their phones enough for carriers to be flexible with their plans...Try using an iphone and asking your carrier to take off your data plan and do the samething using SGS 3...looking at you i can see how apple fans are so blind...

AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint charge the same data plans for all their smartphones. T-Mobile comes into play as they offer cheaper plans and don't include the iPhone. iPhone owners may be more likely to want extra features offered by the cell phone companies as well. But this has nothing to do with subsidizing or Apple.

Exactly I have AT&T and my iPhone bill is the exact same as when I've had an android device. People r so silly.

Apple charges carriers higher subsidies for the phone and a chunk of the data revenue, fact not ignorance. That's why I agree with Europe charging higher plans for iphones to cover the cost that Apple pushes on them.
In the US the carrier charges the same no matter what the phone because they choose to. This is why you go into any brick and mortar store and they will push the S3 a lot quicker than the iphone 5.

Figured you'd post something that made no sense at all
28. networkdood posted on 30 Jan 2013, 18:25 0 0
but, perhaps, companies were forced to rethink wireless data plans due to high amount of usage from iphones....could be..

Its no surprise,Ifans already pay way over the top for their handsets, pay way over the top for official apple accessories and in Europe for example they pay apple for a second year warranty which is a legal free right to already have. Its no surprise that's would pay more on the bills, its all part of the apple "premium experience ".
Also due to the high price of iphones in comparison to other handsets many Ifans actually choose to go on a higher tariff simply because the phone is cheaper to buy on a higher tariff and contract

moral of the story is... world is a much better place without apple

Carrier bills? You do realize that with AT&T - EVERY smartphone pays for a data plan. Depending on the customer's preference they can pick from 2 current plans, or maybe they still have one of the old plans at 15, 25, 30, which is 200MB, 2GB and unlimited. Mobile share with AT&T and VZW treats every smartphone the same.
Do not compare cost with prepaid vs postpaid.
Also, is there really a carrier that charges more because a customer has an iphone?
7. Mxyzptlk posted on 30 Jan 2013, 08:03 5 4
Of course there isn't. It's more blind Apple hate over something Apple doesn't even control at all.

Wow, Mxy making sense...egads...lol.
I mean, I am first to tell everyone how overpriced the ipads and iphones are..perhaps they are to blame as maybe carriers had rethink their ideas on smartphones data plans. It really is not a big deal.
31. Reluctant_Human posted on 30 Jan 2013, 22:58 0 0
Every single carrier outside the US. Not apple hate simple apple fact.

Sorry but a smartphone IS a smartphone. And before anyone starts bashing me, I am not speaking in terms of features and capabilities, I am referring to what a carrier uses to determine the "data plan" There is no difference btwn an iOS/Android/Windows/Blackberry in terms of cost. Why is this even talked about???
10. timtimity posted on 30 Jan 2013, 08:18 0 0
No real surprise. I've now been with my provider for so long I've got a good contract at a dirt cheap monthly cost. My brother has an iPhone 5 and I've worked out that the amount he will spend in 2 years because of the contract for it is the total cost if I kept my contract as it is, bought an unlocked S3 and used it for 8 years!!!!!
12. timtimity posted on 30 Jan 2013, 08:24 0 0
If you can afford the initial one off cost, it's far cheaper in the long run to get a cheap tariff and buy the phone unlocked.
14. infinitemethod posted on 30 Jan 2013, 09:08 2 0
Unless they're factoring in phone price, this article is stupid. They all charge the same for their plans. I hate Apple and their greedy ways, but this is just untrue on every level if we're talking plans alone.
20. D_Tech-tive posted on 30 Jan 2013, 10:50 0 0
The price of "prestige" LOL
It's because it's because most Apple apps cost money and it's opposite on Android, most apps are free!
21. cripton805 posted on 30 Jan 2013, 11:10 1 0
Aww. The comments are rificulous. As an Android fan, everyone chooses what plan they will be using when they sign up. Whether youre on an Apple, Moto, Htc, etc...
I dont "HAVE" to use my home wifi if I choose not to. Your usage patterns dictate what plans you pick. You wouldnt pick a plan with 400 minutes if you use 800 a month obviously.
22. tntwit posted on 30 Jan 2013, 11:18 0 0
One thing you will pay more for is the insurance on an iPhone.
I think this is just the insurance companies taking advantage of people simply expecting to pay more for everything when they have an iPhone.
I thought the off contract price on the iphones was fairly close to top android devices, so I'm not sure the higher rates are really justified.
23. TheMan posted on 30 Jan 2013, 11:19 0 0
Another example of piss-poor marketing research. Every major US carrier prices smartphones the same way: independent of operating platform. The only "advantage" of a non-iOS phone with respect to cost is its availability on carriers like MetroPCS who offer low-end phones like Huawei.
Also, I understand why they couldn't find many BB and WP users, but not basic phone users? Even in the U.S., basic phones still have a healthy cut of the market.
26. albie1937 posted on 30 Jan 2013, 15:15 0 0
The reason why they pay out the ass high phone bills because Verizon and AT&T dictate the pricing plans and got rid of unlimited data, overcharge for text messaging and shared data. I have Sprint with unlimited data LTE in Charlotte and lovin it.
27. tolatito posted on 30 Jan 2013, 17:38 0 0
most pathetic post read the numbers there is no difference between the two.
33. TechDork posted on 31 Jan 2013, 14:53 0 0
I pay $73.30 a month :) Unlimited Talk, Text & 3GB of data....hooray for 3rd party. Oh, and I use Verizon's network.
