The only thing iFans can praise about the 5s this time are the benchmarks. So, uh, specs do matter now?

No, Apple users don't talk about specs but about user experience. The overall performance of the iPhone 5S is overwhelming, especially if you take into account that Apple achieves that with a smaller device than the competition and with half of the RAM. Don't let yourself be driven by technology but drive technology! Spec hunting doesn't make you happy. Only user experience does. (That only applies if your device has achieved a certain level of technology of course.)

"Apple achieves that with a smaller device than the competition and with half of the RAM" less screen pixels, no widgets, less functionality ... etc.

I am not bashing no-one, but people need to understand that the more the device can do, the more the power and the size it needs. Old iPhones were superior in term of performance but what happened after the introduction of multitask in iOS 7, iPhones start to lag (I have iPhone 4s and can clearly see it). thats why apple stayed away from adding more functionality to their devices to not affect the performance while android had multitasking long time ago along with other things. so you had 2 choices, more functionality and not so good performance or less functionality and better performance. however, these days with android you get more functionality and excellent performance, while with apple you still get less functionality and excellent performance. it is your choice, you don't need to be slave to a brand, you should get yourself the best available device.

When do you experience lag exactly? I use an iPhone 4 with iOS7. I only experience lag when pulling down Spotlight. Apart from that I don't experience any lag. The Spotlight lag also appears on an iPhone 5S meaning that it is really something caused by iOS 7 itself.

My iPad2 lags a lot... I'm reverting back to iOS 6...if iPad2 lags.. I doubt iPhone 4 with less processing power doesn't lag.

Apart from Spotlight, I don't experience any lag. Really.

What lies! Apple users are more concerned about fashion and trend, not user performance! They would sacrifice half of what Androids features just to show off with their device! Junkies, cults, hippies, tramps all just want an Apple device to state they can afford it!

If you want show off, buy Vertu phones!
Even dustbin cleaners can afford I phones
What a joke

Just don't let your heart be taken over by hate completely. Besides that, I spoke of user experience, not user performance (whatever that means btw).

dont talk about specs??? u out of your mind. i want a phone which can open and close any apps under 1 sec. even i can distinguish 0.3 secs and 0.7 secs. i know iphone is not lagging, but the cant access the program quickly and i really appreciate every second of my life so i wont waste any second of it

There's a lot more than specs to praise for iFans, iOS7 was the biggest jump forward since it was first released. But yes, iFans will always bring up specs when they dominate. Android users will bring up their specs when they dominate. Welcome to PA, and smart phones in general.

iUsers probably don't care as long as the phone works properly.

I find it funny when we find the one or 2 isheep that are techies that are in love with iphones.. Thats like being the gay guy that thinks he is straight and continues to pretend he likes girls when ... he really doesnt.

I don't like iPhones because of their specs but because of the user experience they provide me. I am more than a robot that just compares spec sheets calculating the alleged optimum. Spec hunting reduces you to a slave of technology. How about being a free individual that seeks for a device whose technology just works and serves him?

PowerVR G6430
supports open gl 3.0 and gives an outstanding 156 GFLOPS !!! insane !!!!

XBOX360 240 gflops
PlayStation 3 228.8 gflops

hahahahah... how can you know that? "More details about the chip will surely surface soon"

buy the phone and sell your PS3/XBOX. It's that simple.. Then with the money saved don't forget to buy some white Monster headphones...

Fyi the adreno 330 got around 130 gflops so apple wins in gpu again this time
Well the gpu gonna be beaten again by early 2014 android flagship like this year anyway

I'm not sure where you got the information from, but at least the implementation in the Apple A7 gives a maximun of 76.8 GFLOPS, like the A6X.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7335/the-iphone-5s-review/7

So there is nothing much to be excited about the GPU, Adreno 330 also supports Open GL 3.0 and provides the same amount of power. And even the Tegra 4 GPU is only a bit short (theoretical limit of 72 GFLOPS).
A different thing is if we talk CPU, there Apple engineers have done an outstanding job.

Then may be we should correct Wikipedia!
With their own calculation:
GFLOPS formula = Numbers of ALU*Frequency(GHz)*5
64*300*5=96 GFLOPs
Anand calculates *4 instead of *5
And the benchmarks are telling Anand is right this time.

For comparison an $80 Desktop APU from 2-3 years ago is double the power of an xbox 360 (A8 3870ks integrated is 480 gigaflops) and a PC can be built for $300ish with one in it, the newer richland APUs are better but cost a bit more.

read comment #15
the 156 GFlops he told probably was a hoax. Even tegra 4 with 72 SP & clocked @ 632 MHz is still 96.8 GFlops. Nvidia > PowerVR.

the source you stated didn't mention the PowerVR G6430, I am not sure from where you got the 156 GFLOPS. Apple clearly stated that it is 2X the power of A6. which according your source it will be 2X 28.8 (A6 GPU) which equals ~57.4 that is slightly more powerful than the adreno 320, so the 330 should be more powerful than the A7 GPU. (This is clear speculation and might not represent the reality so don't bash talk)

Where the hell did you get that number? I can't find 156 GFLOPS from the source you give.

I am an android fan boy and although its not much better than the iphone 5 its probably the most appealing iphone yet.

Its still behind the S4, HTC One and LG g2 tho regardless of crappy iphonearena's review
