iPhone 5: what we think we know

0. phoneArena 11 Sep 2012, 09:18 posted on

It seems like ever since Tim Cook took charge of Apple, security measures at the company have not been as tight as they used to be. Just look at how alleged iPhone 5 components, mockups, and dummy units are constantly being exposed online, not to mention the flurry of iPhone rumors that we have to deal with every day. Of course, that isn't necessarily a bad thing since we kind of get to know what the smartphone will have to offer before actually hitting the shelves. In fact, today we decided to sum up all the iPhone 5 rumors in one place, just to have an idea as to what the smartphone is shaping up to be. Care to join us for a ride through rumorland?...

It was just a thought... a vent or rant rather because of Sprint and Verizon lack of urgency with updates ...

Android has been there for a while Gallito... My GS2 runs just as smooth as my friends iPhone 4S. Way to create arguements that only had ground 2 years ago.

Dude I'm not saying it's the same phone or same design. I know it's a different phone thru and thru.. My point is that it IS a different phone and it more than likely going to be better making the sg3 not a making the sg3 a crap phone but it will certainly give it the appearance of a downgrade even though it's only a few months older. All I'm asking for is a straight line when it comes to the updates. Now if samsung says on the release of the Note2 that an update for the sg2 and 3 is available now. I would be shocked and happy because only then would we have seen a step forward for Android

I get what you mean. I was promised an ICS update in early 2012 for my Rezound, but I only got it a month ago. I spend my time looking for the next best Android, but I find the fun is in the chase. Every few months a new phone makes other phones nearly obsolete, but as long as my phone works I am fine with it. When I am out of updates (1 to 1.5 years after I bought it) then I rom my phone. For now I am happy. I like the fact that my Rezound looks different than every other Rezound. I took pictures of fireworks and spent hours matching the ends of the lightning on Home clocks/weather to the fireworks. It looks awesome. That can't be done on the iPhone.

Wrong. Try ROMing a Moto Droid X2 or any of the many bootloader locked phones. If you knew anything about rooting, you would have realized it by itself does not allow modding.

The only variety from the manufacturers is skins and crapware that slow the phones down, make them a pain to use, cause crashes and prevent updates.

What you can expect from an iPhone is that it will get updates for years - and on time. My DX2 and DInc2 have yet to get updates despite the lies from Google and the manufacturers.

The iPhone has always been easy to jailbreak if that's your thing.

I agree with that. But I don't care about bootloaders, since I don't root. I don't enjoy manufacturer skins as much as I used to. Though a few of them are still good, I prefer stock Android. Don't be so mislead though; my GS2, bloated with Touchwiz, hasn't crashed or lagged once since I got it. So don't automatically think custom UIs and crashes go together, because they don't.

And yes, you do get on time updates with the iPhone. But with every new iOS that comes out, more and more features get taken away from it the further you go down the generations that are supported, the only way to get the full experience of the new iOS is to get the newest iPhone, which isn't right.

At least with Android, you might not get the update on time by any means, but at least you get the full capabilities of the latest OS when you do get an update. And, if updates are so important to you, get an unlocked Nexus. Updates straight from Google as soon as the newest version releases.

Umm, for the "Design" paragraph, the volume buttons and silent switch are on the left side, not the right side...

Actually, I just recently upgraded to a sgs3 and it just doesn't work as well for me as an iPhone did. Some of my medical apps crash often (even after I hard reset the phone) and the keyboard is not as great. I love the larger screen, but there are certain features I miss on my iPhone. For example, I can throw on my headphones and text people or switch music with Siri, but you can't do it with sgs 3 unless you don't use a screen code, which I really need. Also, the notification screen doesn't show the full text and requires to unlock the phone. That may be amended with roms, but I just don't have the time for that. So in conclusion, my point is it depends what you use a phone for. Each has its pros and cons, so maybe it's not about hype but about usability tailored to each individual. So be a little more open-minded next time because your opinion may not reflect that of the whole ;)

I seriously can't believe with all that money they have, they couldnt redesign a Iphone. Bunch of underpaid chinese people jumping off the top of the building and making the same crap everyday.

I feel sorry for apple because their about to witness a execution from android if they decided to release such a outdated device.

Android fans have a serious urge to try to convince everyone that android is better. They see a fake iphone picture and they attack that eventhough is FAKE.
You spend the whole year talking trash about a phone that doesnt exist.
Comparing your android devs. To the iphone.
iphone vs. A new android phone every month,
Is a 2 years old iphone 4 vs. Your just release android devs.
Doesnt that tells you something?maybe phonearena will torture you less if you stop hating on apple so much. You android fans put the hype, you expect so much from apple. You actually believe it was "magical" and you want it to be "revolutionary"all over again.you're never fully please with anything.that's why samsung has to make the same phone over and over again with a bigger screen each time.i understand your pain, you want apple to take it to the next level AGAIN...a cheap installed in your brain and play all your apps there and a projector Flashing from your eyes ;p would that be enough, I doubt it.
Currently own galasy s2,Waiting for the next iphone.maybe in 2 years samsung will make just 1-2 phones and make those phones stable.

I respect your opinion, but I think a bit different. In my opinion Nokia 808 PureView by it self is not an innovation, PureView technology is innovation in mobile world. Also this year still doesn't end so there still can be some surprises. :)

"The question remains whether with those extra 0.5 inches of display real estate, the smartphone will be as easy to use with a single hand as the current model. Some claim it will, some claim it won't, but it seems like that will be up to each individual user to decide."

Nick, really?, you're question if a person can hold a lousy 4 in display phone in one hand?.
I hope you're aware that the real world is working with 4.3 inch to 5.5 inch screen now, right?.
