iPhone 5 knock-off is out in China, swears it looks like the real deal

0. phoneArena posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:34

Chinese companies make some amazingly realistic smartphone knock-offs, and to show you just how good they are at producing counterfeit merchandise, just take a look at this iPhone wannabe. In case you've been following the news lately, you will instantly notice that the handset looks exactly like what the iPhone 5 is expected to look like. You know, that iPhone 5 that Apple has not even announced yet...

Bet it has better reception than the actual iPhone. Now sell it the U.S. before 9/12 so the next-gen iPhone can't be sold without a drawn-out court battle!

4. -box- posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:46 3

Also, Honeycomb logo on the back?!

15. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:58 6

And they beat Apple to the market too.LOL

21. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 29 Aug 2012, 08:57 1 3

If that indeed turns out to be what the "redesigned" iPhone 5 will be like then to me it's a FAIL. It looks like a slightly longer/taller iPhone 4 or 4S.

You have to be kidding me Apple. Please, please let it look different. More of the same, now for 3 years in a row is COMPLETELY unacceptable!

25. quickweevil posted on 29 Aug 2012, 10:23 1 3

Dude, the look the of the iPhone 4 and 4S is iconic. Why would Apple radically redesign it? Personally, from all the mock-ups and leaked parts, I think the two-tone black one is super sexy.

Also, I don't care if they literally make it look like steaming pile of poop it will still sell like mad.

26. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 29 Aug 2012, 10:32 2 3

RIM said the same thing. Look where they are at right now. lol

When it comes to electronics the "iconic" look doesn't float. That may work with Coca Cola, BMW, & companies like that. Established companies that have been out for half a century or more. Definitely does not apply to a less than 10 year iPhone.

People will get bored, same OS & same "iconic" look will get played out trust me. There are loyal iPhone fans who are clamoring for something new. If this design is where the iPhone 5 is going, then there will be millions who will NOT be happy.

27. quickweevil posted on 29 Aug 2012, 12:17 1

May not be happy but they'll still buy it. Apple was smart in locking people in with paid-apps. I've used many Android phones but one of the main reasons I won't switch is because I have a lot of paid apps that I can't use on Android unless I repurchase them. The phone design is still relevent. iOS may be getting stale for some but the phone design doesn't need to change.

29. E.N. posted on 29 Aug 2012, 16:22 1

Well RIM isn't the world's most valuable company is it? People are getting bored of the iPhone 4/4S look, but all they really need to do is change it enough so its different. People actually LOVE the rectangular and glass design with the external antennas.

To be honest, I think if the iPhone looks like this, there will be millions who WILL be happy. What's going to piss people off is if the phone doesn't have a 4 inch screen. The iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS all looked the same and they all sold well. People LOVED the small changes in design between the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G.

When people start getting bored, then we can start talking, but its still way too early for that.

This company is what apple should have sued. They really make A COPY of iphone. Hey apple, now it's your move. If you really want to stop everyone that copies your devices, why not small companies like this one?

Instead of suing samsung or other "threatening" companies, why not the small ones? Live with what you preached that you value originality and innovation.

14. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:57 1

Hey, they got to the market first so they will sue Apple and not the other way around.

16. neutralguy posted on 29 Aug 2012, 08:01 5

ohh yeah. but it's not that how it works. apple patented the design :( The rectangular device with round corners and a button bellow the screen.

HAHAHAHAHA.. Hey! did i just describe, 60% of devices released nowadays? :))

3. ajac09 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:44 8 1

I just love the fact that it has android I want to buy one just to walk around with it and people asn me if that is the new iphone 5 and I say "yes it now has android on it" lol

5. redmd posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:46

LAWSUIT!!! Apple where are you? This should be presented to the iJudge Koh.

6. phitch posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:47 1

Why wouldn't you just get the Meizu MX 4-core? It looks almost like the iPhone 5 anyway and it actually has amazing specs!

7. Ragnarockd posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:47 1

whats with the pic of honeycomb as logo on the back!!!. Anyway LOL

8. shandesilva posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:50

you are contradicting yourself. first you say it is exactly like iphone5. next you say it is inferior quality. i dont know about the goophone but the chinese have real good quality hardware for much cheaper price. if the taiwanese and koreans lead the smartphone industry at the moment, the chinese surely can produce better stuff. if you search around a bit you will find lot of chinese phones with much better specs than your s**tty iphone5.
and where did u get the idea that chinese were good only at playing tt? you must have been living in a ice cave in the north pole for the last 25 years!

17. -box- posted on 29 Aug 2012, 08:14

Since the iphones (and everything else with an apple logo) are made in china, it's entirely possible it has the same build quality as the original.
Odd that this has a 3.5" screen instead of a 4" though

9. Aeires (unregistered) posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:51 1

So why was Samsung sued?

12. neutralguy posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:56 7

because it's a threat. HAHA

10. boringman123 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:52 3 2

I thought they copied the gs2 when I first saw it.

11. wendygarett posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:53 3 4

NO DEBATE ! ! ! ANDROID C**Y EVERYTHING ! ! !
just joking :D

13. iSometimes posted on 29 Aug 2012, 07:57 1

Well, this is supposedly a copy of the iPhone 5 that isn't even out yet. So when the iPhone 5 does come out, wouldn't it be a copy of this phone? In other words, couldn't the company that manufactured this phone sue apple? Hmm...

18. -box- posted on 29 Aug 2012, 08:15

That would be neat. Since both are made in china, they could sue to have the production lines of the original shut down

19. nightelf91 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 08:19 2

Wow, "Table tennis is not the only thing that the Chinese are good at"
Definitely not a politically correct thing to say, however appropriate it may be.

Wish I could run Android inside iOS and tease Apple execs...just like when people run windows on Mac :)

22. gicevtoni posted on 29 Aug 2012, 08:58 1

Well, for all the fans of expensive phones let me tell you, I have a 5.3 inch Haro 9300+ phone, with 512 of Ram, 4 Gb of memory, 32 Gb card, 960x 5xx screen resolution, Android 4.1 and it costed me 200 USD shipped to my address and honestly I see no issues with him, the battery is 2800mAh and it works flowlessly so really do not know why so much talking about, get one and you'll see that after one year use you can sel lit and make much less loss than if you get 600 USD iPhone and sell it for 200 later. Stupid.

23. Zero1u81 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 09:44

You can't sue Chinese companies because they have government backing. And we all know the Chinese government is worst than the American government. BMW, Toyota and Audi have tried to sue and the government shot them all down saying that the designs werent copies because of "slight" modifications to the new design. So by putting an Android logo on an Iphone, its a slight mod so they can't be sued. It's just Math people, them Asians are good at that.

24. Zero1u81 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 09:47

As Top Gear will prove, there is no such thing as copyrights or patents in China.

28. Peter27 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 12:33

Yes it works in China, because Chinese are very clever and when going to buy an iPhone in store they will immediately notice that iPhone does not have honeycomb logo on its back so they know it is fake and wont buy it. Therefore no need for exchange and later lawsuit.

In America, one come to the store and buy Samsung galaxy S2 thinking it is an iPhone because it has round corners, despite the letters Samsung on the phone. So they come back and complain and so sue Samsung.

Here is why they can do this in China but not in US.

30. RicoNZ posted on 29 Aug 2012, 18:23

Err Iphone 5 looks just like Iphone 4?

So will Apple just be replacing the stick on the back of the phone from a 4 to a 5?
