iPad's A5X chip may not come to the next iPhone

0. phoneArena 09 Mar 2012, 06:58 posted on

According to analysts, Apple may not use the A5X processor in the next iPhone as it is not power efficient enough. Instead, Apple might decide to put a battery-friendly processor built using 28-nm manufacturing process...

If it is that big of a power draw difference by using the same chip with a different GPU (and probably clocking it over that measily 800mhz), then maybe not. I cant really see it making that much of a difference unless the new powerVR chip is just completely unoptimized for power draw.

Theres no need to attack the site and its officials. Apple just released a new product which only happens twice a year. So yeah, right now there's alot of apple stuff to report on since they updated all their software and other things as well.

Most of the time I see more android articles since android improves much faster than iOS, with the occasional "apple sues so and so" or "so and so sues apple." So while I'm just as annoyed by all the apple stuff right now (android guy myself) I know there's a reason for it.

When there is news, we cover it. During CES and MWC, the ratio of Android related articles vs Apple news was something like 25 to 1.

Thats not true in the least. It goes in trends with the big news. You do realize that Apple just had their ipad announcement right? Thats going to get them a few big days of news. When it was the MWC, it was pretty much all android all the time. Soon samsung will have their private event to announce the SGS3 and new top of the line tablets. Then it will be all samsung with apple fanboys screaming about "not enough iphone coverage".. The news comes and goes in cycles.

I was thinking the same thing, after I heard that the third iPad was simply announced as the "new iPad"... I was completely taken by surprise along with probably many others. Despite being the 5th iPhone, Apple's going to be like, "since we released the third iPad without following name pattern of its predecessors, we should follow that with the new iPhone!!! =)" In retrospect I think it works fine when you think about it. Say when you are asked by a friend, and they ask you which iPhone is that and you reply, "Oh, it's the 'new iPhone', don't you know??? Nope, it's not the iPhone 5, just THE new iPhone."

wish i did live under a rock so i would not hear about iTURD for one month at a time. PA must own stock in iTURD APPLE b/c there is no way that they can review all these phones and tablets and still look themselves in the mirror and report how sensational iTURD products are. They know they are dated when compared to the field.

@yt6nin
I agree, first they want to make previous iPhone feel old, second they want the iPhone to feel unique by simply saying iPhone. Of course it will take time to get used to it but it will work. However the current colourful apple logo makes me doubt that apple won't be the same. The golden profit time for them is over.

"technically, Apple does not need to increase its resolution even further."

Do explain why, please. You can't possibly think that 640x960 is sufficient for 2012, now can you.

Oh, wait - maybe it's because it's the iPhone - and everything Apple does on it is perfect, right? /bucket of sarcasm.

I quite disagree with you. If you want to use a 3,5" screened device or something around that I find the resolution more than acceptable! In my lumia 800 I have a 3,7" screen and a resolution of 800x400 and if I remember correctly the dpi is 289. Of course it's a pentile display so the actual pixel density is lower but it has been very sufficient for me. In addition you could argue about viewing hd videos. I personally don't care about hd as long as the phone is capable of down sizing it and the picture is clear. All hd resolutions are in fact really small so everything that matters is the dpi and the screen size and of course the quality of the picture displayed.

Okay. And do tell me why on earth do you think than an 3.5" device is even remotely acceptible for 2012?

All HD resolutions are quite small? lol what are you smoking?!

DPI matters - but not always. Look @ the SGS2. 800x480 on a 4.3" display - and there is no pixelization whatsoever.

let me educated you as always.. illia... 5.5" is standard for the average human hand... to be able to hold the phone and be able to text.. again with one hand comfortably... I did mention the average hand.. so dont fired with nonsense about having bigger hands...

Tell you what, until you can string together a properly punctuated sentence with no spelling errors, how about not telling people to get educted? I've seen parrots with a stronger command of the english language than you.

I will give you candy if you can find the mispelled word

"how about not telling people to get educted"

maybe you should teach the parrot to type..

Oh no, I made one spelling error, at least I can form a sentence.

I agree with illa1986 why is it ok for apple to not change their resolution when other manufactures are usually criticized for not changing theirs? If you judge make sure that the standards or stipulations apply to all parties!!! T. I. A. (Thanks In Advance)..

I believe the next iPhone will incorporate the A5X chip. 1st because, Apple has always kept each years iPhone/iPad SOCs the same. 2nd because, Apple only keeps the same iPhone design for 2 yrs, so being that its certain they will have LTE in the new iPhone, if they keep the same A5 but add LTE in the same form factor it'll have terrible battery life. i think that they'll move to a 4.2" screen with a 3:2 resolution of 1152X768, which will result in 329 ppi still, but give them more room for a larger battery. With the new iPad they only increased the thickness 7%, but the battery is 73% larger at 11,666mAh. So if the iPhone goes from 3.5" to 4.2" it'll increase size 20% diagonally which will give them enough space for the larger battery, probably somewhere around 2500mAh. So to summarize, i think it'll have a 4.2" 1152X768 Retina Display, which will need the A5X chip to continue the graphics performance, LTE, and a larger battery which they will have room for.
