Apple lost a trademark patent case against the Chinese Proview for the term "iPad" last month, which it is currently appealing. The Chinese authorities, however, have apparently been notified of the lawsuit outcome on Friday, and asked to step in against retailers selling the iPad 2...

Does no one review these things before they are posted?
The headline sounds like Apple was taking the iPads FROM the police. The story does not say that - the police are seizing the iPads, not having them taken from them.
Why does this story have the same flavor as that when police were involved in the case of the supposedly lost-in-a-bar iPhone? Of course in that case, they were doing what Apple wanted.

Apple doesn't stand a chance in Chinese courts. Judgement is set from the start. If apple is smart they should threaten China to move their production to other countries

Threaten China to move production to some where else? lol, there is no way that's going to happen specially considering the fact how money hungry Apple is. Do you know how much the difference in labour cost there is in China vs US?
If Apple is smart, they should change the name to something else other than iPad so they can atleast sell their products.
My suggestion for the name is iphad :P

did I say move back the jobs to the US? are there only 2 countries in your vocabulary. Read again. now proview is seeking monetary damages and in "Chinese courts", apple as a US based company will have very small defense so where are the savings now. Change the name? good luck.... it's already there

Proview should have went with $38 Billion...Apple has the money and thought they could get away with selling them and then suing the company that sold them the copyright in their own country.

Proview deserves 2 BILLION, take that iThieves of names and technology; that's what you get for your "Patent This, Patent That and all your iPatents" mentAliTy.
Apple can always rename the device "mAxiPad"; crAp, that name's taken too.
Oh well, "sAniTary nApkiN or tAmpon" are still available.

I am an android guy and i have a Galaxy S2, i always found the legal action taken from Apple, (in most parts) bad and over the top, specially when i saw the manipulated photos of the Galaxy Tab 10 in comparison to the iPad 2 in the German courts.
But here i have to admit and ask my self that,
A. I didn't saw in the article if Proview, has a product named iPad and if that product came before or after the Apples iPad. If Proview had one how they didn't toke the same legal action on Apples iPad 1?
B. Having a names trademarked, reminds me what happened in the begging of the commercial internet (and still happens), when "smart" people toke the most commonly used words-names or names of company's and there products, before them resulting on the company's having to buy back from them there "own"www.-.com names.
Personally i think that we have to find a new global standard about matters as that. Ii dont think that Apple wanted to copy the successful iPad of Proview ( if there was one). Matters as that is better solved out of court.

yea the title is wrong.. lol. I thought they were taking the police ipads away.
that said, does anyone else see the irony in shenzen not backing apple.. since that is where much of their production is?

China isn't going to sweat Apple moving it's production - the only other countries which have the infrastucture, technology and qualified workforce to handle iPhone/iPad production also come with either significantly higher than slave wages, much tougher labor and environmental laws, or higher taxes - or a combination of the three.

Not to reply to myself, but it's too late to edit. Just wanted to add that Apple is hardly the only major corporation that manufacturers in China because of wages, laws and taxes. It's ALL of them.
