If you've had any doubts about the success of the iPad 2, those should have quickly evaporated as reports confirmed the usual lines and initial analysis claimed nearly 1 million iPads sold during the opening weekend…

No one doubted the ipad 2 would sell PA. We just doubted if it was a real improvement.

meanwhile, their beloved xoom is collecting dust on the shelves.

I mean, this is awesome for Apple, but my GOD. Five weeks is so ridiculous. I wonder if Apple expected it to go this well because I honestly didn't think it would be this big of a deal. I thought most people got their iPad's last year and wouldn't be so into this update since it wasn't like this huge overhaul. But that's also why I don't have an iPad 2 yet. I thought it would suck waiting 2 to 3 weeks...I feel lucky I ordered when I did...

Who would seriously want to wait a month to get this device when there are so many competitive devices being released in the coming months. It should be very interesting to see how things play out as more tablets are released.

well unfortunately for the millions of other tablets available/coming (i hear McDonald's is releasing their own version of a tablet in July) just like Apple did with the iPhone they have a good way of making people believe that their product is the best. most Android tablets have been sold mediocre at best. there is something about that bitten piece of fruit that when people think tablets generally iPad is the first thought.

Apple crushing android as usual. Fandroids will have steam coming out of their years when they see the sales totals reported. Then we'll see endless posts about how android tablets are better because of abc specs. I can't wait to see the Xoom's sales totals. Now THAT'S a flop lol.

Oh that don't forget their "marketing" excuse why Apple products sell, lol. Because users have never seen or heard of xoom or the galaxy tab because they're never marketed in any stores and no one has heard of motorola and samsung products, lol.

I'm not an apple fanboy what-so-ever. But seriously! Even I knew the XOOM wasn't going to stand a chance. This is how I see it.
1. XOOM comes out with a WiFi only model (just announced)
2. XOOM sale figures arrive and are underwhelming at best (Already reported)
3. XOOM announces a price cut to match the Apple Ipad (With in the next 30 days)
At that point and at the same price the XOOM will still loss to the Ipad simply because the iPad is a btter buy as a hole. Yes the hardware is better in the XOOM but its doesnt have the inovation that apple has had.

One other thing the Xoom is suffering from - crappy 3G connectivity. I was at the Best Buy store in San Carlos, CA yesterday and spent a few minutes playing with a Xoom. The Xoom was on 3G connectivity to the Internets. I went to the PA website and after 30 seconds waiting for the site to load, bagged it. I then tried the same thing with the iPad 2 (which was connected to the Internets using the store's Wi-Fi). Guess what? The PA website loaded almost immediately.... If you are Joe or Jane consumer, do you go with the dog or the Ferrari (that co-incidentally, everyone else wants as well)?
There is a reason that iPad 2s are on allocation....

Also, Motorola launched the Xoom starting with the 3G version only. "???" If people are looking for an alternative to the iPad, you don't lead with a more expensive one. I can only speak for myself, but seeing an $800 price tag as an entry point into an Android tablet made the iPad look like a bargin! Even with the better specs on the Xoom. And who is going to give the wifi only version a second look when they have $800 stuck in their minds? I must admit, Motorola and VZW really screwed this up!

Apple launched tablets for sure, just tired of the same OS. Honeycomb looks very nice on tablets. Thank you Apple for making tablets a hit, and thank you Google for coming out with an OS optimized for tablets.

People were saying all the same things about apple computers 25 years ago. And now, they are lucky to be reaching a 1.5-2% market share. The same is already happening here. Once the big boys get on board in a meaningful way, apple is back to nothing......as usual. What a joke.

Then you have nothing to worry about if you really believe in what you are saying. So why is it that you actively bash Apple products? Hmmmm, your actions totally say something else from what you are saying.

You're not only a troll, but a dumb troll. If you really thought Apple was a flop you wouldn't invest the time that you do on this forum. Anything posted about Apple sure enough has you in the comments section. You post more on Apple products than an Apple fanboy would. You're actually very jealous of Apple and people that have superior Apple products. It's like the little boy in school that teases the girl he likes because he's afraid to actually talk to her. You're about that same maturity level too.

When they only send out ten to twenty to each store, a good way to keep the demand high. Which means that if they release in one month then it is four to five months before one can really get to touch one. At this rate the Androids will be out. Hope they don't pull the same thing on its customers as Apple.

10 to 20 may be going to each partner's stores, but you don't get to a million units sold in a month that way. The problem for Xoom and the rest of the non-Apple tablet market is that Apple is sucking the oxygen out of the room (every iPad 2 sale is a sale that isn't going to a non-Apple tablet). Unless there is a pent-up demand for non-Apple tablets (and Xoom sales to date don't confirm any kind of pent-up demand), all of the other non-Apple tablets are going to be competing for a smaller and smaller pool of prospective buyers.
If you want a great deal on a non-Apple tablet, it will literally pay you to wait a few months. Expect the Xoom to be discounted to sub-$500 territory before the end of April, 2011.

I think the reason more people are going apple's way and not the Xoom, there are far more apple adds and apple fans out there. Motorola has not been the best manufacure out there in the past few years, yeah they make good phones but what else? and I've only seen one add on tv for the xoom and a s**t tone of apple adds. it's all in the advertising.
19. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Wasn't the xoom advertised during the Superbowl? Isn't that like a major event? How more exposure could one get?
21. agentoj (Posts: 104; Member since: 29 Oct 2009)
True, Apple makes solid products that people love. The xoom is solid too but people be scurred
