iOS: State of the Platform part 1 - Year in review
0. phoneArena 28 Feb 2014, 15:21 posted on
Last time, we took the longest trip out of all mobile platforms in order to cover the major changes we saw over the past year in Android, and what to expect in 2014 for Google's system. This time around we expect it won't take quite as long, but there is still quite a bit to talk about as far as where Apple's platform has come from in 2013, and what to expect from iOS in 2014...

Great article. I bought the iPad Mini w/ Retina to personally test out iOS 7 and it's great. I can actually see myself using an iPhone as a daily driver. Now granted iOS 7 isn't perfect, because there's a lot of bugs that irritate me (Safari force closing randomly twice an hour, apps crashing, and slight UI lag). I'm waiting for what Apple brings to the table with 7.1 next month with their change log.

Safari gets me with the crashes. Excellent features, ok stability.

I get em sometimes, great OS though. The camera and it's auto edit, compression of vids, is the best though. Anything you record is sendable, no crappy cannot attach file size too large message.

Apple should have kept both UIs like a theme and let the users decide which theme to apply. It would have been so much fun to change it whenever you wanted to.

'ios 3 came with the 3Gs and brought video recording, copy and paste, limited voice control, and MMS'. Lol funniest sentence of article.

i'm currently using an iPhone 5S as a daily driver after having used Android for the past 2 years.
I can honestly say that I don't see how iOS users (serious ones) get anything done in a reasonable amount of time. It just takes so long to move from one app to another because you can't share between apps unless it's the VERY few built in by Apple. Finding clickable links takes a lot longer and are not as defined as they are on Android.
iOS7 is a visual and a navigational nightmare compared to older versions of iOS.

If that is the case, then jailbreak your phone. It takes less than 3 minutes and can do as much if not more than Android. The community is huge. If you are one of the small percentages of people who need that kind of thing, then there is your option.

Jailbreaks come with their own set of problems.

True, jailbreak for ios 7 isn't secure enough.I jailbreaked my ipad 2 recently and aftet installing siri and a coupleof new tweeaks my ipad started to act strange, random reebots, couldn't erase any of my apps,in the end i unjailbreaked it,now i'm waiting for at least a year for things to get in order.

Love their tablets; while I don't quite care for their UI in comparison with Android; I could live with it; the one thing that would have to change [from now] is their hardware. I just don't like it in its current form.

I'd like to see a more condensed UI for the iPad line of tablets. If they are going to make them even bigger, the amount of wasted space between apps needs improved. The result would be more apps per page so you don't have to scroll as much to find apps, or rely on folders.

So, how do I share news to my Viber contacts? Go to browser, copy link, paste into the viber message box and click send. Well done, apple. :)
And what about miracast, fellows?
