iOS 6 Review

0. phoneArena 20 Sep 2012, 03:06 posted on

September 19 has come, and for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users, this means only one thing - iOS 6 is here! Having the new OS up and running on our iDevices in no time, we've had enough time to check it out and lay our thoughts on paper... that is... the digital kind of paper that our website... is, and... stuff. Yeah, so, iOS 6 - disappointing to some, but inspiring to others - did Apple really manage to provide a substantial update to its venerable mobile operating system, or did it just add a few gimmicky features, trying to make it look new, distracting from the aging visuals that many want to see renovated? We'll try to answer all of these questions and more - right here, right now...

for all android fanboys, please stop mocking other competitors, okay ?

i'm an android user & i think iOS is still a great OS, it's fast, fluid, easy to use & their services are great but it's still not an OS for everyone. some won't like the lack of customization or the steps you have to take to get what you can get with unlocking your android phone.

let the apple fanboys talk as much as they want, let's see if they have a real bite not just loud barks

iOS 6 may not be a revolutionary upgrade but any changes made will always be appreciated. Infact there are many changes and improvements for example: just see how fast safari loads web pages for instance

Same experience here with my iPad2. I find that i am reaching for my Nexus 7 more often. It's handier and more fun to use to name a few...

Hi, I upgraded my Ipad 2 to iOS6, post which my 3G connection stopped working. The sim card is getting detected, but it gives the message, "you do not have a cellular data plan" Anyone else facing the same issue? Also, is there any way to remove the update? The new maps app doesn't work well in India showing wrong locations and very few details regarding the roads and I use maps frequently

I just hope those are not the words I hear from their service centre tomorrow :) I have tried holding the device in all possible ways, so atleast I am sure I won't get the 'you are holding it wrong' statement.

When Ray S speaks of "terrific" user experience, I think he's solely pleased by the smoothness of the UI which is logical due to the lack of power hungry background processes like live widgets or live wallpapers. What iOS does well is loading quality apps, I won't deny that most apps developed for iOS are superior in refinement than Android counterparts, that's what really gives Apple an edge over the competition. iOS by itself is so dated.

I can't help to look at the app store & think about the Android play store, there maybe a lawsuit coming on. Apple is such a copycat, nowhere near innovative

Too bad the maps are crap, the camera doesn't save pictures anymore, the wifi is buggy and overall it's not much of an improvement..

Wow...just wow...
"Quite the contrary - iOS continues to look better and arguably more refined than any other mobile phone/tablet UI out there, with stock Android 4.1 coming close, but not quite there yet."

Hmm, how can iOS keep looking better and better, by being the same? More refined? How? You said its pretty much the same so where's the refined difference? Yea, that's a stretch...and don't EVER blaspheme about Jelly Bean!

This writer is making this website less reliable... This article looks more like an advertisement than a review... lame!

The fact that he was able to pull even 3 paragraphs out of the UI makes me not want to read this website anymore.

Well of course, iphone/iOS6 have been much favored by phonearena thats why im expecting a perfect score when the iphone5 has been reviewed. Ios6 is the the most advance os that brings brand new features that others will follow.

Updated my Times app to take advantage of Ios 6 only to discover my OLD trusted ipad 1 is not getting the update. Shame Apple. Take a lot to make me buy a new Ipad, money mainly. Still the best bit of kit I have ever owned. Been a disciple since the Apple Mac.

Following my comment (68 fosterdel) I have still got my cracking google maps.
Lesson: don't go to ...6 till you are: A. sure you always know where you are, B. where it is you're going and C. positive you will recognize where you are if you ever get there.

Of course I still drool thinking of an Iphone 5. Ios 6000 or whatever. What am I talking about? I cannot even afford an Ebay second hand iphone. Anyone feeling charitable.
