Very exciting news; iPhone users have been waiting months for this. Now only if my GD Droid Pro would get freaking Gingerbread!!
It's okay, I think I might get the 4S Friday anyway...
12. jkeskel (Posts: 52; Member since: 23 May 2009)

87. msa1988 (Posts: 417; Member since: 30 Mar 2010)
Have any proof of this? I literally called and visited every Verizon store and they said it hasn't...

msa1988 you have an Android phone.
You can do whatever you want!!
You can install ANY version of Android you want. Via custom roms! There are zillions of them!
And because you got Android - you can do almost anything with it! Widgets, live wallpapers, zillion other tweaks and things that iOS will NEVER have.
iOS 5? Give me a break..
3. bigdawg23 (Posts: 353; Member since: 25 May 2011)
I am downloading it now. You can tell the Servers are slammed. Mine just completed download after 2 hours. All I can say is 774MB update, Really???
4. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
IPHONE USERS.. HURRY UP AND INSTALL iOS 22.214.171.124 FROYO-APPLE!! NOW WITH MORE ANDROID!! lolol
8. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Oh no, android on our iphone? That means our iphones would now be laggy and choppy. Lol.
13. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
if your phone was using a capable OS and not a glorified app list and launcher, it would be choppy already. :)
19. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
which is funny considering that my Droid X and Atrix run quite smoothly these days, thank you very much. :)
47. hawk62 (Posts: 320; Member since: 21 Nov 2009)
These days? Implying it doesnt usually run smooth
54. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Hi Hawk. I'll admit that with Froyo my Droid X wasn't the smoothest at all, and feedback from others on the Atrix prior to Gingerbread was similar. But since both have Gingerbread now they both run smooth as butter.
Except today I'll probably be shutting off the X permanently. It had a good run, but there's no sense in paying for two phone bills at once. You served me well, X. I'll never forget you. :(

Do you know what an OS entails? At a basic level what else is an OS supposed to do beyond providing an intermediary between hardware to support applications?
48. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
oh.. with an unregistered name like that.. please enlighten me.. and quote sources. :)
67. Joshing4fun (Posts: 1047; Member since: 13 Aug 2010)
Hey remixfa I love android too but why you gotta start stuff?
115. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
because a few of the applefanatics have been extra stupid lately, so i figured i would stir the pot for fun. Cant be serious aaaaaaaalll the time :)
72. bucky (Posts: 1336; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
I will never take you seriously again since you're saying the atrix runs smoothly. I just got rid of the phone and I use every custom rom possible, there is no way in hell your atrix runs smooth.
76. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
*thinks about it* Yep, Atrix runs smoothly. Smooth as silk. Of course, if I end up running like five things at once that all chew up my RAM that might not be the case. But yeah, I run stock Motoblur and Gingerbread and my Atrix runs just fine.
I don't know why you had problems with yours. But don't dismiss my experience simply because it's better than yours.
83. bucky (Posts: 1336; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
it runs it runs less smooththann my 2 year old desire. there is a reason why it's never used in any dual core comparisons
88. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Then I don't know what the hell you were doing to your Atrix, because mine runs awesome. I am being dead serious here.
99. ledbetterp3 (Posts: 466; Member since: 31 Aug 2011)
He probably never got the gingerbread update, or rooted his phone...
100. bucky (Posts: 1336; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
I've been rooting and modding android phones longer than you have owned one. The phone is jerky at best. Not a very good standard for android.
86. narley (Posts: 357; Member since: 14 May 2009)
you're a tool for putting that as your username
15. Whateverman (Posts: 3187; Member since: 17 May 2009)
Lol! Hey lay off the iOS 5 update. With iMessages, notifications, voice act... Uh Siri (Hopefully), this is gonna make my iPad much more feature rich! Like my Droid! :) iOS fans may not want to admit it would make it more like Android, but it's true. But I ask my fellow iOS users, what is so bad about incorporating some of the features that makes Android so great? They way I see it, adding these Android features are the best thing since Apple added MMS! Now if only they would add some of Android's customization...
5. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Yeah, I know it's exciting for the rest of you iPhone users. :P
*goes back to playing Minecraft on my 100 buck Android phone which has almost everything the 300 buck iPhone 4S does*
6. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
And you took time just to post your bitter comment :)
14. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
I'm...bitter? Lol. You're so silly. I think I'd be more bitter if I paid 300 bucks for a 32 gig iPhone 4S only to find out that my friend's Atrix 4G with a 16 gig memory card scavenged from his old Droid X does almost everything my phone does for a third of the price.
24. ayephoner (Posts: 836; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
you know theres a $200 16gb version? if you're going to troll, why not focus on the $400 64gb model?
and the atrix was not $100 at launch, it was $200.
you're attempt to troll by comparing prices is a poor effort snugs.
25. dacastrator (Posts: 232; Member since: 22 Sep 2011)
It was $199.99 but it was offered by wirefly on launch for $99.99..
34. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
*ahem* I bought my Atrix for 100 dollars, which is what its price is now. The Atrix 2 will be the same price. I didn't pay anything extra for my Droid X's memory card, and a 16 gig memory card is about 20 bucks these days anyway.
The point is that for 100 bucks, I have:
A faster processor than the iPhone 4S,
A bigger screen than the iPhone 4S,
The same internal memory as the 200 dollar iPhone 4S,
And (for 20 bucks extra at most) the same total memory as the 300 dollar iPhone 4S.
Even removing the memory card and comparing it directly to the base iPhone 4S model, I'm still getting away with half the price. And the only things I lose out on are relatively minor, like the camera (which works pretty damn well on the Atrix) the voice commands (don't use them) and screen resolution (more than good enough on the Atrix).
So tell me how I'm trolling and not simply making a point?
70. ayephoner (Posts: 836; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
youre trolling because you arent representing the original retail price of the products and what the true cost of storage is for them. thats great if YOU kept the memory card from your old phone, but what does that have to do with the greater comparison of these two devices?
youre trolling because every way the iphone is better than the atrix is negligible to YOU, but atrix's plus sides are greatly important.
for all the sound arguments you fandroids could make, you muddle your message with skewed hate for a pretty normal device and company. get over your personal opinions and hate. your trolling is what fuels the bias in coverage from PA.
73. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
This isn't six months ago when the Atrix was new. This is six months later, and I'm talking about what I'd pay NOW for the Atrix. Adding in the cost of a new memory card only increases the price by 20 bucks. Woohoo.
So for 120 bucks I have just about everything the iPhone 4S 32GB has, minus a better camera and higher resolution screen. So you might want the better camera and higher resolution screen. Do you as a consumer really want to pay almost 200 bucks MORE for those features?
Maybe you would, but I don't quite feel like doing so.
I apologize for making an HONEST PRICE COMPARISON between the two.
78. ayephoner (Posts: 836; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
rationalize your trolling however you want.
have fun trying to convince yourself and others that your phone is somehow as good as an iphone in every apple related article on the internet. you wouldnt do it unless you had an inferiority complex.
89. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
For what I paid for the Atrix I'd say I got a hell of a deal compared to the iPhone 4S. I'm not saying the Atrix is perfect or even quite as good toe to toe with the 4S, but it's a hell of a phone for a hundred bucks.
79. biophone (Posts: 1893; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Ok how about better bat life the extensive use of better materials such as metal amd glass. Or how about if you want to do gaming and want a higher quality app store. For 100 dollars extra it is so worth it.
90. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
The battery lasts long enough for me. As far as better materials, the plastic on my Atrix will fare much better than the glass on the iPhone. Games work awesome on the Atrix, and the Android Market offers some kickass games, the most recent example being Minecraft.
So what exactly am I missing for that extra 100 to 180 dollars?
104. ayephoner (Posts: 836; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
you just posted that you're not thrilled about the plastic.
and did you really just switch from vzw to att?
130. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Yeah, I'm not thrilled. I liked the metal feel of the X better, but personal feeling aside, the Atrix doesn't feel cheap.
82. vette21man (Posts: 351; Member since: 06 Apr 2011)
Actually, this isn't an honest price comparison. The true way to look at the cost is with your carrier's plan pricing.
At minimum you are paying $60/mo (on a family plan). I'll use AT&T for this example, since they have a 20mo upgrade cycle. $60/mo*20mo = $1200
iPhone 4S: $1200 + $300 = $1500
Atrix: $1200 + $120 = $1320
So, the 32GB iPhone 4S is only 13.64% more than the Atrix (2).
If looking at just handset cost, the iPhone is 150% more. It's all about perspective.
Obviously, when choosing a handset, there's more to decide than just cost, but it helps to look at the big picture, rather than simply one-time costs.
92. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Since the long term cost doesn't change no matter what device I use, I think that it can be discarded for the discussion at hand. I am purely discussing one time costs here.
116. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
yea, exept when your doing a math problem with like variables on both sides of the equasion, they cancel each other out. your left with just the phone prices as the variable. Also, your 60 bucks a month for a smartphone on ATT is a joke. you dont do "add a line" pricing, you go by individual line pricing.
Plan pricing only comes into play when you are comparing plans across multiple carriers like Tmobiles Unlimited everything with the 2gig throttle for 59.99 for a single line vs ATTs 130 a month for unl talk/text and a data cap.
60.00 x 24 months (the life of the contract) = 1440
130.00x24 monhts = 3120
thats a $1680 difference over 2 years.. FOR ONE LINE.
Who gives a crap what phone you buy when you are blowing that much cash.. lol.
151. ayephoner (Posts: 836; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
remix, as always, im not real sure what point you are trying to make. your comment about equations does not apply here. all the phone prices we have mentioned are subsidized. to truly consider the cost of any device you either have to look at full retail or include plan pricing. vette was shooting at the low end to show the least you could possibly spend on your plan. either way, to say that the atrix's price is 1/3 of a 4s with similar storage is very far from the truth.
154. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
unless you always buy full retail, that would never enter the equasion.. 95% of people wait till their upgrade, so that's the price that you worry about.
you only include plan pricing when comparing the same product across carriers.. like the i4s on sprint vs the i4s on VZW... other wise there is no point to including the plan numbers except to skew the results one way or another.. they cancel each other out.
1000 on plan A - 1000 on plan B = 0.
and a $60 smartphone plan doesnt exist on ATT, that was my point.
Package: Apple iPhone 4S - 16 GB $199.99
Device: Apple iPhone 4S - 16 GB - Black Included
Plan: Nation 450 w/Rollover® Minutes $39.99
Services: DataPro 2GB for iPhone 4S $25.00
Messaging Unlimited with Mobile to Any Mobile Calling $20.00
looks like 85 for bare minimum minutes, unl text, and only 2gigs of data.
155. vette21man (Posts: 351; Member since: 06 Apr 2011)
I still think this is a narrow-minded view. The bigger picture is that you are making an investment for your entire upgrade cycle. The carrier plan is obviously a cost. You don't have your plan w/o your phone, and you don't have your phone w/o your plan...you need to consider both for the purchase of your phone.
A phone isn't simply a one-time cost item. And there are many factors to consider rather than a spec war..."iPhone 4S has better camera," "Atrix has expandable flash memory." It's about the experience and the opportunity cost.
Maybe the iPhone EXPERIENCE is worth more than the Atrix's, and therefore gives it more value...maybe vice versa. My point is that your guys' argument doesn't really make sense...you both clearly have different arguments for why your experience with your sided handset is better, so just buy what you like!
156. vette21man (Posts: 351; Member since: 06 Apr 2011)
BTW, no one should ever get a single-person plan. We have 3 on our family plan...not everyone lives at the same address. And it comes out to less than $60/mo per person. Find a buddy with a discount, setup auto transfer of payment to him, and bask in the savings.
77. biophone (Posts: 1893; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
I wanna play.
The 4S has a better gpu and for me is more then fast enough it never seens to lag.
I like the smaller screen better
I dont even use 16gb so not a big deal
The better camerea is huge for me i like to take pics
Voice commands i dont use either
Screen res is go good on the iphone its mind blowingly clear.
Ok so we determined atrix better for u 4s better for me.
Not atrix better for everyone
For each their own
94. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
I'm not saying that for some people the 4S isn't a better buy. If you want the 4S, at least you have your reasons.
Anyway, good posts, biophone and vette. :)
52. hawk62 (Posts: 320; Member since: 21 Nov 2009)
and your droid crap is still worth nothing. Iphones hold their value like any great product. Iphones need memory for the large well written apps, droids need nothing for the crappy apps on the market. And it was only recently that droid let you use the memory card for storage.
56. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
If you consider recently to be what, a year ago?
Hawk, will you ever stop saying stupid s**t?
65. gallitoking (Posts: 4684; Member since: 17 May 2011)
well of course they are made of cheap materials.. and a OS that is laggy central
68. Sniggly (Posts: 6765; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Not thrilled about the plastic, but it's held up well so far. and my Droid X is anything but made of cheap materials.
Furthermore, my Atrix is smooth as silk. Gallito, you don't know what the f**k you are talking about.
102. ledbetterp3 (Posts: 466; Member since: 31 Aug 2011)
The iphone's have the worst durability, who cares if their made of better material, it doesn't help... And Sniggly, you are saying how the atrix has "almost" everything that the iphone has for much less, but the iphone doesnt have everything the atrix has:
First, the atrix has a superior software: Android!
Also the atrix has a fingerprint scanner? very useful and neat. And iphone still doesnt have widgets or live wallpapers, what else?
158. vette21man (Posts: 351; Member since: 06 Apr 2011)
Sniggly, I must give you praise for remaining so calm, even with the onslaught of hate you have received in these comments! In their defense, you did draw first blood by saying, "Yawwwwnnnn." :-)

if we troll here you troll @ ics launch. simple. lets not troll articles. whats the point of looking at what people think of the article only to scroll down and find that everyone's fighting? eh? i would offer a truce but you know fans gonna be fans and that goes both ways
118. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
if you mean better materials by "the metal part of the case is what lets my hand zap my phone call because it allows conduction between the hand and antenna" and " that premium glass (its frikkin glass.. wooo) that breaks the moment its dropped... and yet im not allowed to have insurance".. then yea, I would rather have "cheap" plastic and gorilla glass that is 100s of times harder to break.
