bada beats Windows Phone in Q4 sales, but WP still making huge gains

This story is for our long lost friend Peter who gave up on our site because he thought we didn't cover bada enough. The fact that we're a US site and bada has zero US market share didn't really seem to matter to Peter...

Haha that's so sad, windows phones appeal to a small part of group of people and has room to grow. Its not my kind of phone as I have grown very fond of Android phones but windows phone can really grow, IF and ONLY IF they start showing more advertising about the product and features that sets it apart .

I like the fact that you love Android but don't Diss other OS. This is what I call maturity :)

I like all kinds on phones and devices, they make me think about the future and how fast it is evolving. I like and dislike things about all OS weather its a Android device, IPhone, or Windows Phone. I may every now and then bash something about any of the 3 major types of phones, but I don't like to bash on anyone who like's something I don't use. I do trash talk fan boys who push the issue about how great their product is, I stand behind my Photon 4G for reasons I purchased it for. It might not be as fast as the SGS2 or have a screen like the iPhone 4/4s, but it suits me for what I like and need.

that's the problem, nothing really sets it apart. I'm not a WP hater at all, I'm glad there's more competition for ios and android. Unfortunately there isn't really anything that WP has that makes me want it. As much hate as android gets for being "fragmented" it's not an issue for the typical user. Hardware wise, wp7 leaves a lot to be desired. Nokia phones do seem promising though :).
I'm rooting for wp7 though, I really want to see what Microsoft can do to get it more competitive.

have you spent some time with it? its an exellent and easy to use system.
Sales for Q1 should show real promise. If my localized example is indicative of what is happening over all, there should be a nice spike in WP7 sales for Q1 2012 when the numbers come out. The Lumia 710 is selling better than everything other than the SGS1 and SGS2 in my store. That hasnt happened with any windows phone so far. Now that it has navigation and most of the main apps across the platform, its an easy sell. Cant wait to see what apollo brings to the table.

Hey why the GS1 is still popular it has a bad screen and no touchwiz 4 . BTW , you had an HD7 right ? WHy do you think of it ?
31. Lucas777 (Posts: 2137; Member since: 06 Jan 2011)
hardware wise, wp7 has absolutely no problem.. u cant compare it to the hardware needed to run android, because while dual core android phones are (mostly) unlaggy, single core wp7 phones are buttery smooth…
part of the allure of wp7 is actually using it.. i discounted it until i decided to try it, and it is my favorite os ever.. for anyone who doesnt need tons of apps (which is why i sadly had to give up wp7) it is a fantastic platform

WinPhone is actually pretty smooth and fluid, but damn that Metro UI is sooooooo butt ugly. With a facelift and quite a bit more dev support, I would consider a high end model.
As for Bada, it's just an updated BREW. Nothing to see here. (Just trying to coax Peter out of his mom's basement)

metro UI ugly??? i think ur not a stylish person in real life? :P no feelings for design nd style
22. andro. (Posts: 1998; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
Agreed. We rarely if ever get anyone looking for windows phones in our stores but when people actually do ask its usually for a very specific work related need and even then most are instantly turned off by the awful ugly bland ui.
24. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
people are turned off by how you present it. if someone says to me "easy to use" "not too pricey" and "smartphone" in the same conversation, i show them the lumia 710 and the galaxy1. At this point id say they are 50/50 for purchases between them (for those that dont specify android), which is impressive.

if its not ugly, there would be no need to talk it up. It would speak for it self. I like nokia and will most probably be loyal for now. But one thing still holding me from getting a Nokia windows phone is the look of the UI. I am still waiting for the last great symbian, and that is what i'll leave my N8 for.
30. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
ugly is eye of the beholder. it's a little plain but some people want that. if/when they start allowing a little more creativity for the user with the tiles that could help. I'd like the ability to change individual tile colors or switch between interactive and plain tiles for each app.
we used to have to talk up Android when it was new and no one knew what it was. its just par for the course for a new OS. most customers come in for an education .. few are pre educated on the phone.

You have a point? Explain to me why everytime I go into a TMo store they try to stair me towards a Android device? With your logic that would mean Android is an ugly piece of crap that requires constant talk'n up?
I believe what's being examined here is if you're not familiar with WP phones take a look and see if it's for you. Because there are many people out there that believes WP phones are Windows Mobile Phones.
But truthfully it gets even simpler; if you prefer Android products then go buy them buy the truck loads. If you like iOS then stock up on those as well. If you don't like WP then that's ok too I have yet to read anything from Microsoft stating you must like a WP phone.

u should try out windows phone, its main selling point is actually in th ease of use and integration

Pa while i like the shoutout for peter its a bit unperffesional. We all miss peter but for someone who reads this article and doesn't follow the comments they will be confused as to who your talking about.
6. Luuthian (Posts: 246; Member since: 09 Sep 2011)
I actually thought this was cool and fun of them to do... And if you're interested in Wp7 or the global market, the news is still relevant.
7. biophone (Posts: 1956; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
The news was great but the references to peter I could of done without.
8. crankyd00d (Posts: 191; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
Go back to your cave then, I like my news with a little personality, the reference to Peter is obviously for the Phone Arena community, and I'm pretty sure most people who read Phone Arena and have a decent memory for a human will remember Peter so it's not out of place. Peace
15. biophone (Posts: 1956; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
I don't live in a cave i live in a dorm.
I like personality to but there r people who read the articles and don't fOllow comments they will not get this.
25. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
lighten up bio. you have been doing good to not be demanding for a lil while. Most of us have been around long enough to remember peter. I still check any BADA articles just to see if he unbans himself. lol.
19. snowgator (Posts: 3583; Member since: 19 Jan 2011)
Lighten up, biophone. PA always gives props to Peter who was our one and only Bada supporter. Anyone who is just joining PA would catch on at the part where it says "This story is for our long lost friend Peter who gave up on our site because he thought we didn't cover bada enough." You know, the first line of the story......

As soon as i saw a Bada news, peter was the 1st thing that came to my mind
14. thelegend6657 (unregistered)
Bada sucks . Only reason they got sold its because of the Samsung badge
16. REYNER (Posts: 187; Member since: 10 Feb 2012)
Bada is a good os. interface wise, the looks and its also snappy! but the problem is the apps there are lots of quality apps but the numbers as a whole are not that great compare to other os. actually, Peter has a point! for PA give alot os updates in WP numbers of increase in apps and so as android and ios respectively but seldomly in bada symbian and rim well lets face it we are also intrested to see how do under dog try to outrun the one on top!
18. snowgator (Posts: 3583; Member since: 19 Jan 2011)
I just gave a shout out to Peter in the Meg Whitman post.
Like how we are finally seeing some positive sales for WP. I still think over time, it will grow comfortably into third place. I am still hoping for double digit % in world wide sales by the end of this year. I still think any less is a lose for my favorite OS. But, it is nice to see growth. I just want choice, and a healthy WP provides that.
21. andro. (Posts: 1998; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
We've now sold 2 windows phones in our shop, seeing as we had sold only one before that represents a 100% increase.......substantial.
Windows sales are dire overall and only received a slight boost late 2011 when nokia fans in dire need of upgrades had went for the lumias.
1.7 millions wp sold over 3 months across a wide range of phones and markets is quite awful when you dissect it. If you divide that figure among say ten particular models of windows phones alone thats only 170,000 for each model in prime christmas season buying,it not a rosy future for the platform.
