Not surprising when your home country has a population of a billion and u make cheap low cost smartphones phones. ZTE will never reach what HTC has achieved. "quality"

HTC had a winner with the EVO but failed to follow it up with solid phones. The EVO Shift and 3D didn't live up to the OG Evo so we had to wait for the One series to wow us again. I like HTC, hope they get back in the game like they were a couple of years ago.

For the record I have been a fan of HTC devices and really loved my Dinc. However, in my personally opinion having follow smartphone lore for the past several years, I think HTC's performance has to do with a few factors in varying degrees. I’m sure there are other factors I haven’t/don’t mentioned like the evolution of the ‘Sense UI’. 1) When HTC started to hit their stride and became popular, they tried to create too many smartphones for each carrier that drove issues with quality. Example: Thunderbolt. These received some not-so-great reviews and, in turn, fewer devices were sold. 2) Competition stepped up; Samsung namely. The Galaxy series has performed well and Sammy didn't have the same bad press. Arguably, they also kept their lineup relatively slim. 3) System on a Chip. Other manufactures, including Samsung, were already consolidation chips that allowed for thinner devices and better battery performance. HTC got a late start with SoC and produced some great but thicker hardware that didn’t have the same appeal as other slimmer devices. These are at least some of the bigger takeaways I’ve noted over time but all lead to other manufactures eating away at their market share.

Cheap phones can sell easily. It is always difficult to sell premium priced handsets. i'll use my 3310 again, but never a ZTE

12. murati posted on 30 Oct 2012, 14:54 4

It is hard for HTC because they are making good phones, they are using aluminius and other solid materials and that means that phones are expensive and not everyone can afford it. HTC still means premium phone for me and I would go over ZTE every day. Maybe they are selling good in China or somewhere but not in my country. HTC will come back, it never went down, just competition catch them, they had no competition what so ever 4 years ago and they should realy consider about making some MARKETING ! If someone from HTC is reading this, please start make some comercials or sth cuz on this track, you are lost in space.

HTC said they will NEVER make cheaper smartphones... ZTE is ALWAYS making cheaper smartphones... Thats the difference...

If HTC wants to step in and reach top, they have to concentrate on mid and low end smartphones too... Atleast they should release high end phones with removable battery + SD, imho...

14. snowgator posted on 30 Oct 2012, 15:19 3

That was going to be my comment. HTC has never recovered from their decision to cut mid-range devices and feature phones. They saw the dollars rolling in from some premium handsets and figured they would never drop back in that market. Very short sighted.

HTC has never made feature phones.

16. andro. posted on 30 Oct 2012, 16:26

Hmm,Zte handsets reliabilty quality is very questionable at best. huaweii I've seen very little trouble with however

For HTC to be passed up by a company whose primary smartphones are used by Prepaid carriers.........creates a bad sign for HTC!! I wouldnt buy a ZTE phone either.

19. lonestrider posted on 30 Oct 2012, 20:15

I'm more surprised that RIM is still above HTC.
