You can no longer downgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 6

0. phoneArena 26 Sep 2013, 03:37 posted on

In a typical Apple fashion, the plug has been pulled on iOS 6 officially, meaning that whatever ways you could find to revert back will no longer work.

I hate the new colour scheme. Why does Apple insist on using a childish design for their OS? Android in my opinion looks far more professional. Here's hoping KK doesn't break the great .design

Surely not Touchwiz? Or LG's version, whatever it's called.

LG's UI is called Optimus UI last time I heard. They might have changed it since then because they dropped the Optimus branding with the G2.

Anyways, I agree. I hate the cartoon-ish looks of iOS 7, Touchwiz, and LG's UI. Change the color scheme and it will be MUCH more welcome to the consumers. Stock Android looks much more minimal and professional, but sadly there are no more stock Android devices on Verizon, so I chose Motorola's stock-ish UI with mainly just changed icons, which I like. I like Sense 5 as well, very modern.

Pulling out all my phones I have to agree. The Motorola and HTC UIs are nice while Touchwiz is a bit too playful looking. LG's UI can look a little more professional you change the theme to Shine and give the changed icons an aluminum border instead of going with the default Shine icons (did this for my LG Spectrum 2 and it matches up nicely).

Use a different launcher then, don't select your phone off its theme because it can be easily changed on android.

If HTC's Blink Feed was throughout the whole phone I would've considered the One.

I saw ios7 on a green 5c and it looked laughingly close to a little tikes phone or a leapfrog or something. I was hysterical. Google images of the green 5c and see for yourself. The chick who bought it was a little hissy at my comments but they were spot on.

I was hoping Apple would make a design closer to the OSX side of things. It would look professional and fun. Instead they decided on the Playskool side of things like Windows XP.

I think iOS's icons look ulgy, they are too colorful, they should have a flat color tone, like the icons in settings.
Gamecenter (and the icon) looks like was designed for iOS 6, not at all flat.
And I don't like the Aero-like glass effect on control center, notification and siri, it's not flat, doesn't suit iOS 7, looks likes more it was designed for iOS 6.

However other than those, I think iOS 7 is a very very good, major improvement. IMO its the biggest/best improvement in the history of iOS. Especially control center and the improved multi-tasking.

A lot of them upgraded because of a fake ad telling them that their phone would become waterproof with a software update.

Two people I know with phone4 said they where going back to os6 as os7 was too slow, but you just know they never will. What fun am I going to have telling them they can't next time I see them.

I have to admit I've never reverted back to an older version of anything myself, so I can't understand why apple would lock people out of older versions, makes no scene to me.

Why they don't just provide a way user can customize at least the wallpaper (no it can) and icons/themes?

Oh, sorry, I forgot, iPh would lag as hell if they implemented such features... Just read it, iOS slowed down by just a "heavy" animation on iOS 7. In Android, user can just go to display setting and choose to turn all animation off.

Well there goes all plans on jumping ship on iOS 6 due to the massive amount of bugs in iOS 7 that will takes at least two updates to iron out.

Probably part an parcel of their new locking system?
Idk why'd you want roll back, I thought 7 was all that?
Users wanting to purposely fragment does not sound good, regardless we know its simply not allowed.
So there, you have what's been decided for you, what problem.

I don't see any problems with iOS 7. The new font is clean & nicely rounded. The animations are elegant & intuitive. The new color scheming really makes the OS pop instead of making it look washed out & dull, even the slight baby blue/blue gradient from older texts to newer texts is nifty. The only thing I miss is the sound when you unlock the phone. Everything about iOS 7, in my opinion, is beautiful. I've yet to experience any lag, battery drain, slower transitions or anything. Not sure what everyone is complaining about. Oh well, to each their own.

For some users, there is a legitimate need to downgrade to iOS 6.1.3 beyond a distaste for the new aesthetics. If you still work on a Power PC, its version of iTunes (10.6.3) will prompt you to upgrade your iPhone. If you click the button, that version of iTunes will download and install iOS 7.0.2. However... that very version of iTunes will no longer sync with your upgraded iPhone!

Yet Apple nonetheless refuses to let you un-install its now incompatible iOS! The only solution they offer? Buy a new computer... just to be able to use your phone.

There is no way that Apple should prompt one to install an upgrade that will no longer work on the hardware and system used for that very installation. OS X will not prompt you to upgrade beyond your platform's limitations. Neither will iTunes. Neither will any other Apple program. But in this case? Apple Support is in effect saying:

====================
"We sure fooled you there with our iOS upgrade alert, didn't we? You took the bait, and now we've got you hooked into the only solution to sync your phone again: spend thousands of dollars to buy one of our newer computers. Thanks, sucker!"
====================

Unconcionable!
