Xiaomi's Android handsets resemble Windows Phone's Start screen with Lite Mode

Xiaomi's Android phones run using the manufacturer's MIUI UI. For Xiaomi customers who find Android to be confusing, there is the Lite Mode that offers a "simplified Home screen and menus." If the Lite Mode look seems familiar, that is because it somewhat resembles the Windows Phone Start screen. To enable Lite Mode on your Xiaomi device, go to Settings > Lite Mode. Tap the Lite Mode switch to turn it on, and agree to reboot the phone...

That's very true. Have RedMi, MIUI really looks like iOS.

I think Hwawei also had a phone with something like that, too. It was also shown here on PA, if I remember right.

Yes, because Lite Mode must be kept this way, just look at the Lite mode from Acer and Huawei. What do you expect? A complicated UI? Then how are those people who don't know how to use a smartphone to use it? Just because of one simple thing like this and it made you guys got hurt on the nerves.
Come on, can't you guys get real and stop saying they're copying?

Remember when they completely 100% copied Apple's presentation of the Mi4. The guy wore the same clothes as Steve Jobs did and the presentation even had the same "One more thing..." slide. Now tell me that that was totally original and not copied from Apple...

The Chinese loves it, they are riding the title of "apple of china" that's why they are making that stupid stunt, you maybe offended but to them, it's a good show. :D

fzacek, Have you observe that iOS6 -> iOS 7 look like MIUI v4 then.
Actually MIUI CEO say its ok for people to copy them. He just smile. Most people are so stuck up and greedy that they feel like being robbed.
Human evolution will slow to a halt if we can't copy the WHEEL.

When Apple copies, people are like..."Wow! Innovation! I'm gonna queue overnight at the Apple store!"
When Samsung copies, people are like..."Good job Samsung! Wow, I like it!"
When others like Xiaomi copies, people are like "They copy everything! Nyah nyah nyah...cheap Chinese crap...Hurdeehurhurhur..."
People these days...sigh.

fzacek, how many mobile OS or Android skins has a theme for User to swap the entire UI look and feel.
XiaoMi has done it 4 years back.

Agree with you 100%. For all the decent phones they make, they resemble and clearly take too many visual cues from other OEM's and OS's.

MIUI v5 is before iOS 7 and yet Apple fans claim that Xiaomi copy them.
Fans thinking are illogical.

What do you expect from Apple fans?
"What Apple do is right, and what others do is wrong."

may be apple took design cues from xiaomi in ios7? but since apple is a famous brand so no one know that apple is copying xiaomi?? instead they think xiaomi copied?? may be

V6 is not before iOS7 which is where a lot of the styling cues emerge from. I don't want a phone that resembles another OS. At least most of the major Android players don't go out of their way to do this. Even the product pages share a similarity to Apple. It doesn't give me that good ol' Android originality. Not everybody has to be an Apple user to see that.

But... perhaps... "Windows Phone's Start screen" means a homescreen with big rectangular-shaped icons.
26. LetsBeHonest (Posts: 1106; Member since: 04 Jun 2013)
Yeah lol.well i see some resemblance here and there but people make it sound like every UI made using some rectangles shapes is just a blind copy of WP. They can't face the fact that everyone copy each other. I mean look at WP's tiles which is a kind of widget which we cannot interact or just a big square icon which shows some info. And look at their drop down notification centre which was on android long before.
i think it's about time we all should drop the word "copying" and start using much more matured word like "borrowed".

Seems like some people here got hurt on the nerves, because Xiaomi is just doing what the others are doing. They don't even know what is the Lite Mode for and now they are whining about Xiaomi copying Windows Phone. How pathetic is that lol?

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE AN INTERFACE SIMPLE,,ELSE COPY THE INTERFACE OF NOKIA 3310,EVERY OEM WILL COPY THIS IN FUTURE
13. Sharky (Posts: 166; Member since: 24 Jun 2008)
Lite Mode is more of less like other phone companies' "Easy Mode" (like Samsung/Huawei) than Windows Phone. Its for people who find the standard UI to be too confusing. Large static boxes can be found every where, I don't see why this draws comparisons to the WP interface when there so much more to it.
16. jellmoo (Posts: 744; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
Honestly, that doesn't even look like the Windows Phone interface other than "tile like". It's almost like saying something is a copy of Touchwiz because it has a dock.
If anything, it looks like a ugly copy of an ugly Android launcher making a vague attempt at a Windows Phone like interface.
17. tiara6918 (Posts: 1792; Member since: 26 Apr 2012)
Tbh, it doesn't resemble the windows phone interface at all

"Other Xiaomi models will have different features and a different look for Lite Mode"
Not really, my Redmi Note has the exact same Lite Mode

The media is just good at making apple look supreme that's all. It's not about apple fans. It's the medias fault, they report issues and stories that always favor apple and make them look like the Godly company. Every MIUI custom rom user knows v5 has been in existence before IOS7. If anything, apple copied MIUI v5
23. Ashoaib (Posts: 2569; Member since: 15 Nov 2013)
yeah, thats true... I am totally agree with you... media always create hype about what they like and always a negative report about what they dont like... same here, they always filled with apple's goodness instead of showing the world a true picture, which is, iphone is a sub standard phone lowly specd and way too expensive... media should show the reality that iphone is a low end or mid range phone but highly priced instead of keep coming up with apple's goodness and brain wash the people... in this era it is totally in the hands of media who to make good and who to make bad
24. boosook (Posts: 1163; Member since: 19 Nov 2012)
OMG... iOS buttons plus tiles... the worst of two worlds! :)
