Xiaomi Mi 5c images appear; teaser shows another Xiaomi phone with a rear E-ink notifications screen

Xiaomi is churning out handsets like Keebler's elves pop out cookies. We recently saw the Xiaomi Mi 5s and Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus launched, and now the word around the water cooler is to expect a mid-November release of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. There is also talk about a new phone with the code name "Meri." This is supposedly the Xiaomi Mi 5c.

The phone carries a full metal body and speculation calls for a handset that has slightly lower specs than the Mi 5s. A 5.5-inch display with 2.5d glass is included, and the phone is powered by a MediaTek SoC featuring an octa-core 2.2GHz CPU. The Xiaomi Mi 5c runs MIUI 8.6.9.6, which is based on Android 6.0. The unit supports VoLTE and has 4G LTE connectivity. Pricing could be in the ballpark of $180-$230 USD.

We have some photos of the Mi 5c for you to look at. Simply click on the slideshow below. We also have a teaser embedded in the article that shows the back of another Xiaomi model, this one a mystery. A vertical E-ink screen is placed under the rear camera, perhaps for notifications. Part of the E-ink screen seems to be dedicated to the time and date. The year "2016" appears on the bottom of the teaser followed by the words "Long Awaited." Is this something that truly is in the works at Xiaomi, or is it a prototype that has been scrapped?
