Wozniak says the Apple iPhone is "somewhat behind" on smartphone features

0. phoneArena 07 Feb 2013, 15:05 posted on

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak praised Apple iPhone fans for being loyal, but warned Apple that loyalty is not always a given and that the company still needs to turn out the best products; the Woz said that the iPhone has fallen behind on features as other manufacturers have caught up to Apple and he mentioned Samsung as an example...

Camera is good i agree, but sharing and editing? are you serious, try to share anything on android and see how much options you have there, on IOS you can only share to facebook and twitter period, you are so tied up in your ecosystem you have become delusional mate. There are so many brilliant native and third party video/picture editing software on android. Please dont just come and start ranting nonsense, IOS is way behind says Apple co-founder so stfu!

iOS has far more sharing capabilities than that lol, and try to mms a video on an android device without selecting limit to mms and see how far u get. And I will not STFU either...mate

my CR-V does not have all the feautres and gadgets my neighbor's Audi, so because of that should i feel embarrass?.. does you car have the latest and greatest... dont you think is kind of dumb to judges thinks base on specs alone... all the features you describe... are the least used by users.. my iphone has all the features I used on a regular bases..

Does your CR-V cost as much as that Audi?
If I want to spend much money, I must get the best product, and of course the one that has more features. This iPhone, is a mid end device, has less features but costs as high as hi end phones.
If I can get a cheap mid range phone that has the same features & specs like the expensive one, why should I buy the more expensive one?
And you compare it wrong, Audi is like apple, Honda is like android, because Japanese cars are cheaper but offer better mileage and same features as expensive european cars..

The Iphone is best known for its NON-SHARING abilities. (NO Bluetooth sharing, NO SD Card, NO NFC, etc..)
It's certainly way behind everything in the market at the moment. Android, Symbian, BB10, BB7, WP8. All has better sharing abilities than an iPhone5.

I somewhat agree with the woz. Apples core features are among the best there is, novelty features however like popup video is another story. Apple needs to revamp iOS, and make it more fun to use. I have an android device, and the iPhone 5, and although the ip5 is my go to device, the android is more fun due to novelty features like split screen, and popup vid.

Those are not novelty features, they are very practical and makes your phone usage much more easier and quicker, this is what you call innovation, your android device is a Samsung and im very sure thats what you use more cos just face it, browsing the internet, watching videos, playing games is just a bliss on that lovely screen, keep the iphone 5 and ego in the drawer please cos it cannot compete

Ok I'll dumb it down for ya. The first note I bought had the same average camera as the first one, which is part if the reason I returned it. The other reason is that they were going for the low 4's on Craigslist, so I returned the one I paid $703 for here in vegas at AT&T. My ip5 was bought via full upgrade forcing me to purchase the note 2 at full retail. The one I got on Craigslist was $425 and it was white vs the drab gray, do the math. How's that, did I make it layman enough for ya? Now get outta my business...please.

It's about time someone put it out there ever since Galaxy II about 2 years ago maybe even longer Apple has been playing catch up after Android took off. I'm not saying Apple completely sucks, but it's overpriced for the worth you get out it that could be had for other phones. I mean look at these newer droids coming out soon from LG, HTC, Samsung etc.

The realization of points ring true in Steve's view. While the iPhone is obviously iconic, it has been relying on branded recognition. I have a friend who owns an ipad and owned an iPhone. As diehard as she is for Apple, she felt no need to own both an ipad and an iPhone. She recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy 3 and is in awe of its ability over her 4s. She believed heavily in the hype of Apple products and has since changed her opinion About it. She can't stop talking about how univesal the Galaxy is. Because of it, several of her friends are going to ditch their iphones.

Apple has lost its lustre.

that i can agree with for the msot part. I do wish there were more models to choose from for the iphone though... they are all too similar for me to be really impressed. the only thing that changes is the internals which only gradually change to match competitiors. they never go up on the next level. Apple Is kind of stuck like Nintendo was. You can only milk Mario and Zelda for so long. If Apple doesn't find their Wii or Pokemon soon, they will die an even slower death than Nintendo will eventually. Its just a matter of time.

The problem with Apple is that if they change IOS too much, it will be like Apple maps all over again but on a much larger scale. If they introduce live widgets or tiles or live anything, there goes your small battery and so called flawless ui performance. A massive OS change will take longer than BB10 and if they rush it will suck.

Good times! Apple has nowhere to go but down.

It's no secret Apple is playing catch-up in the Mobile phone game. Every year they trickle in a few "new" features that Android already has and act like they've moved technology ahead three years. Everyone (except Mxyzptlk and other like alike) knows the iPhone is behind in important categories. The iPhone barely wants to be a smartphone. Most of the "advantages" of having an iPhone depend solely on 3rd party apps. iOS struggles to have any features of it's own. Apple copies and sues then calls it innovation. Some people where flipping out when they added Facebook integration in iOS 6. I hope that iOS 7 doesn't have widgets and look screen shortcuts otherwise people will act like they never heard of them before. I hope it stays exactly how it is. Behind.

One thing I will say I'm not into the whole phone thing like some of you guys on this site, but Apple has one hell(hope that's allowed) of a marketing campaign. Samsung is beginning to catch up a lot in that department(Next big thing already advert here was GOLD!), but the rest of the companies no lie.

I had to rely on sites like this and others, but still with Android and I-phone we get the IN-DEPTH analysis of it all where as others only see T.V and of course the phone store flyers or they may see it pop up online in random advertisements, but to the point until Apple Advertising falls off I don't see them changing so much in that regard don't blame them would you?

Another thing if Android Phones or companies that made them would just say WE HAD THIS FIRST Apple probably would have to run for the hills.

Man this guy is simply awesome on what he says. I mean look at what ANDROID have done in 4 yrs. I'd agree w/Woz that Apple is behind in lacking some of the latest features offered on other smartphones today...but as far as performance & reliability, I'd still put iPhone 5 against any of the latest Android titans. My S3 offered more features than my iP5 but what matters to me in a phone (mp3 player, battery life, reception, app selection, iTunes, Bluetooth) are things that I like better on iOS. S3 just had a lot features that I didn't use or care to use (i.e. NFC, facial recognition, motion gestures, etc.). It was okay, these things just don't rank on my list as a priority of what I do w/my phone. The S3 was a good phone though, except for lack of reception.

Fair enough.

One observation tho...Samsung has been known for weak reception.....going all the way back to the old Win Mo. So for that I think the iPhone has most Samsung phones beat.

Motorola is probably king for reception in Android land.....but they dont have some, maybe many, of the features of a Galaxy S or Note. And before Moto started using the huge batteries....they were usually near or at the top for battery life. Samsung wasnt too far behind tho. But a phone with weaker reception will eat battery life faster than a phone with better reception.

Also being in a weak reception area is probably the biggest battery killer....and not too many ppl know it.

One of the downsides to so many choices.....the different manufactures in Android land have their pros n cons. You really do have to make sure you pick a phone that gives you the least headaches. Or just got for one that has most of the features, wants covered and hope they do ok for reception and battery life. Since many of them do WP.....same things goes for WP.

I think we can all agree that yes the iphone 5 is a great looking and feeling phone. But now its not how the phone looks, its how it operates and how advanced it is that matters. The iphone does have great features but its features that every other smartphone has out there. It really needs to differentiate itsellf agian away from all other smartphones. I think the past couple releases of the iphones really lacked in that whole innovative department and really didnt give us tha "WOW" factor we aree used to with apple. Apple needs to step it up and quit being so predicatble, we know iphone 5s is coming out and we all know it will just be a minor upgrade from the 5. Granted though i agree this phone relies heavily on apps, ask a bunch of iphone users what they love about there iphone and you will notice about a majority of them will say something that has to do with the apps not really the features of the phone...
