He is right ...there is nothing wrong with porting a great system to another platform...heck it might get Apple's sorry a$$ some love from us androids!

Google Play Store is improving fast, you have Amazon which is as good as iTunes, and there are many other streaming services as well.

We never lack choice with Android b-c Android supports all standard media formats unlike iOS.

The average consumer isn't going to invest the time in 3rd-party tools when considering the switch, regardless of how simple it may seem to you or I. It's too much of an inconvenience. They would use software they already know.

One pretty simple way, and cheap depending on the size of your music collection, is to burn music CDs of your library. Not in mp3, but with the format that can be played in any CD player. Then after that rip it to your PC. You lose the DRM when converting for audio CD. This obviously is only for music, but the only cost is blank CDs which are dirt cheap and anyone can burn/rip CDs.

if you switched from an iphone to an Android, just download Google Music to your computer & select "Itunes" for the option to transfer music to your android device. you also have to make sure the app Play Music is already downloaded on your phone. Hope this helps. =O)

I don't like itunes as well but I like the idea of buying a single app and use it on both platforms. I, personally don't use any iOS device but I know a lot of people using Android as phone and iOS(iPad) as tab.
And this would facilitate the switch from iOS to Android(vice versa).

I just wish that google make a desktop app.
I find it very nice to have the "mini" player on my taskbar to quickly pause and skip songs.
If you have more than one iDevice, it wants to sync EVERYTHING. Apple has no idea that the function of an iPad isn't the same as a phone.... or an iPod.

iTunes is what kept me from iPods during the whole mp3 Boom... Maybe I grew up old styled, but I absolutely love drag n drop... even though it might be a little more work... I feel in charge of my files...

But I understand the people who likes iTunes... it is just not me...

And for Android we have Double Twist anyway

uh...mine run just fine on mp3, i'm not exactly sure where you are having problems
the stuff i have bought from the store is aac, but i am free to use, convert and transfer mp3s
unless my ipod is somehow malfunctioning

Because iTunes is still a more popular content store than Google Play, that's the argument. People have spent a lot of money in iTunes over the past 10 years. People haven't been buying Android devices for Google Play, but people have been buying Apple hardware because of iTunes.

also "everybody" may not be buying android for google play but you best believe a lot of people look forward to the play store and having that type of store in particular when choosing an android phone........

It's the same reason I expect to stick with Android unless something really changes my mind. I've spent a lot of money in the Google Play Store. Sure, the music and books could follow me, but the apps are an investment I don't want to lose.

Similarly, iTunes has been around a long time, and a lot of people have built up a library of music and such. It's also a big reason why the Kindle Fire has been successful, even though it has glaring limitations compared to a full tablet: people have invested a lot in the Amazon ecosystem.

The Nexus 7 has done a lot to push the Google Play brand, so I can see the trend changing, but we're not there yet.

It may not be the best reason to stick with one platform over another, but it's one that a lot of people consider when choosing whether or not to stay with the platform they've got.

I understand what you are saying........people invested alot money into the apple ecosystem and that makes it pretty much impossible to leave!......I understand that

But people buying apples product for itunes is not "soley" the main reason why the want it......ITs jus something they look forward to having when making that choice.....Same goes with android, people expect to see the Google Play when they turn their phone and get it up and running....

All i was saying is if this is a way to help iphone users to escape that ecosystem that apple has embedded on them then it sound like a good idea

I'm not saying that people make always make their buying choice based on iTunes. I'm just saying that from Apple's perspective, iTunes is a tool to get people to buy hardware. It's not the hardware sales that are driving people towards iTunes.

I haven't heard anyone buying an iPhone or any other hardware because it has got iTunes rather heard (I'll buy because its cool to own Apple's hardware)...!!

I can see a benefit for someone who has iOS devices wants to switch to an Android device. Right now, you have to purchase and install all of those apps again. If iTunes on Android allows you to download the Android versions of those apps without having to purchase them again, it will make it less painful for users to switch from iOS to Android.

I cannot resist the impression of mediasphere as a scenography for some kind of play. Lately, Woz is becoming the symbol of something inside of Apple that has the voice of reason to te tech world. It's obviously something artificial, a role that media gave to him, and we could see that everyday in news, that tells us only the things about how Woz was against some Apple's strict principles. It's what people want to hear, because those news are "aware" of symbolic war between Google and Apple that has nothing to do with technology.
