Would you mind if Android flagships were thicker, but housed larger camera sensors?

0. phoneArena 13 Mar 2014, 07:54 posted on

Nokia's Lumia 1020 might be thicker than any Android flagship, but it sports one big advantage, and it's the big camera sensor. We don't mean big as in large resolution, though it certainly has that, too, but literally larger in physical dimensions. Theoretically, all other things being equal, a larger sensor can soak in more light, and produce better images...

In other word, would you mind if Nokia produces high end Android PureView phone ?

A HUGE YES !

Hundred of millions would buy Nokia PureView runs Android.

No one would care about thickness if Nokia is the phone.

WE TRUST & ADORE NOKIA!

Exactly akki20892.
Yesterday I was in At&t store, and I found two guys arguing about buying Galaxy S4 or LG G2. one of them said to his friend. I wish Nokia had an Android phone like the Lumia, so I wont be worry and confuse anymore. Its design and camera and build quality are amazing. But unfortunately, it runs WP.

Damn Stephen Flop and microBitch

Samsung should give a huge bonus to Elop, If Nokia had gone android, Samsung would've been like HTC or Sony. Given the same OS and apps, who in their right mind would perfer Samsung harware over Nokia's?

As long as it's Android man, I don't mind having a bulky 41mp camera.. As long as it's Android!

It matters a bit, they better make it ergonomically viable if it is fat. Better feel good in the hands because the problem with thin phones is that they feel terrible in hand. But a thicker phone (like the Moto X) can have that ergonomics factor, so thickness when added properly would be just fine.

Nokia makes some ugly phones the only good looking model they have is the icon if Nokia didn't have those camera exclusivities I'm pretty sure Sammy or Apple would have them beat already

Check your temperature dude... Are you sick???
In the years when Nokia made smart phones with camera, Apple didn't made the first iCrap and Samsung made cheap TV's.
Yes, their pride was too much and that's why they are suffering now.
But still, call quality, build quality, camera...all this is best made by Nokia.
Point.

Another fan boy I see, "in the years" we aren't in those years anymore now are we? Camera I'll hand it to Nokia the best at the moment. Build quality I would give it to Apple and HTC over Nokia any day. Call quality is best on ANY phone with a good Mic. Theyre suffering now because they still have too much pride.

Oh I got you,
For him beautiful is ugly.
Check you eyes balls. Nokia make ugly phones? Dude check your ugly mind, and you think sammy and apple would have them beat already if they don't have camera exclusivity, Oh please it's not about exclusivity ugly mind, it's about hard work of Nokia(Nokia engineers ).

*cough cough* fan boy, it's a combination of both do you think Nokia wouldve been able to make these sensors without the exclusive technologies? No they wouldn't have

And how would you know if Nokia would sell more with Android? HTC and Moto were one of the first to make an Android phone, but look what's happened to them. Android isn't always the answer.

Paying attention to people's comments ever since the Open Handset Alliance was being formed would give you a pretty good idea as to just how many people have been wanting Nokia to make an Android... before ms started calling the shots that is.

But it wouldn't be certain that Nokia would sell much more with Android.

Htc and samsung
were first in windows phone. But look whats happened to them. Your argument is now invalid.

DEFINITELY YES!
In fact, take the s4 for example. Add an extra 1 1/2 mm to allow for a 20 mp Camera with ois and then fill in the extra space on the bottom with a 3300 MAH battery so theres no bump, and an awesome phone!

A HUGE YES INDEED!
I'm stuck with Nokia 808 (which I love BTW), because once I got used to having great camera with full power xenon flash, I don't want to change it, no matter, how good apps could get...

That is such typical thing to say. Seriously fanboys are not the majority of consumers, Nokia would have died earlier had they gone with Android, Samsung was never going to be displaced simply because they would have destroyed Nokia with marketing, look at HTC one can argue that they make better smartphones than Samsung as a matter of fact love it or hate it one would argue that HTC one was generally seen as the best Android device of the last year yet they slipped 36.5 % over that time period. Nokia was hurting financially they were not in a position to displace Samsung, not everything is what it appears, WP saved Nokia with a combination of quality software and differentiation (different platform). Unless HTC makes a device that heals the sick or do something miraculous its not going to displace Samsung.

Google and Samsung just recently became closer via patent agreements.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/01/26/us-google-samsung-patents-idUSBREA0P0Q120140126

Couple that with the fact Samsung dominates Android Global marketshare with over 63%, HTC is at 5% after all this time its quite ignorant to think that Nokia could just come in and dominate.

+1 listen you want a better camera, buy a "camera". Don't care about water and dust proof, not a child. Give me a smartphone with great voice quality, and a battery that last at least three days.

Totally agree with you. I don't care so much for whatever processor/how much ram/how many PPI is my screen stuff. I just care that my phone has a battery that lasts me for 2-3 days. And the extra weight does makes a phone feel more solid in my hands.
