World Record texter sent 566,607 messages in one month

Fred Lidgren proudly owns the world record for texts sent and received in one month with a figure of 566,607 and for proof, all you need to see is how his T-Mobile bill arrives each month; instead of coming in the snail mail in an envelope, his bill is sent in the form of a rather large parcel...

I'd hate to be one of his friend and see this d**k head is sending me like 100,000 texts a month out of the 566,607.

lol, i made sure not to spam message anyone without permission. i'd hate if someone did that to me.
what i ended up doing was having friends putting their phones to silent at night, and letting their phones soak up messages that way without disturbing them. the object was to not impede those helping me out. too bad guiness wont make it official or anything

That's more than I texted in my lifetime, I think...

Message 1: ok,
Message2: I will
Message 2: meet you

i did send crap like that haha. it was only for a month though, lotta freakin work. couldn't take calls, my phone kept crashing,, the network kept getting backed up, people would get text messages out of order etc. etc. lol. turned out to be much tougher than i had though. the total bill was over $120,000, but tmobile waived the charge because i was signed up for free text messaging. however, i did have to pay for all of the international text messages that came in and went out because my phone number was posted on the internet for anyone to text and chat during the month. probably should hav restricted it to US only =P
the article makes it sound like i do this every month, which would be inhuman, i only did this once. i'd do it again if i was sponsored and had tmobile's written permission to go past 100k messages in a single billing cycle without incurring additional charges.
the box said (1/2) on it... idk if there was supposed to be a second box along with it for whatever reason since the whole bill was in the box, but the guys responsible for printing and shipping the bill thought it was a prank from upstairs which made me laugh xD

I wonder what phone he's using and how often does he have to change his phone because the keyboard fails...

i was using a tmobile dash at the time, i still have it, i put it on top of the box of a phone bill they sent me :) i need to frame it lol. i had a few back up phones as well because it would constantly have to reset the windows mobile powered phone since it'd slow down after too many messages and would take days to delete the stored messages. if i did this today, on and android or iphone or similar, it would probably go much smoother, and have gotten a lot closer to the intended goal

I think sending text messages to a lot of people will not be a problem if you enroll your contacts into groups. You send only one text to the group and all of them will receive the same text message individually. So in 20 seconds, depending on the number of people you have enrolled in the group, you would have sent so much number of text messages.
What intrigues me though is what job does he do that would entail such a lot of texting in one month... maybe he sends out advertisements, or maybe campaign materials?

it wasn't for a job or for advertising. the article made it sound like i do this every month. i don't, i did this once (well.. this was the second attempt, the first attempt was cut short). my sister however, without going for any record, casually sent and received 38,000 SMS that same month haha. high school girls.... neither of us text anywhere near that much combined anymore now that we're in college

Sorry for double posting, but if he is earnest in paying his monthly bills, maybe TMO should give him an MVC Award? You know, the Most Valuable Customer Award?

So much for going green. How many trees a year does this clown waste just for his paper bill. T Mo should charge him for billing and shipping. No wonder they want to keep raising the rates and it only hurts us that hardly use the services. I pay 30 a month for about 100 text on my family plan and he send 1/2 mil for same price.
16. jim3000gt (Posts: 17; Member since: 13 Nov 2011)
Bet it cost way more then that to send his bill.

i think paper billing was free back then when i did this in 09 i think it was, after i heard that post about some 14 year old with 14,000 SMS and scoffed at how he got recognition for such an easily breakable number.

I'm sure TMO makes money from this Lidgren guy otherwise all that texting would already have been throttled by the carrier. Also, I'm sure this guy is not sending out that much text messages for the fun of it. I'm sure he earns money from it all.
So it's a win-win situation for TMO and this Mr. Lidgren.
But one of the posts that makes sense is the suggestion that he be enrolled in paperless billing.

I don't even send that amount of SMS per year
14. tluv00 (Posts: 134; Member since: 18 Oct 2007)
Can't this guy enroll in paperless billing so there isn't such a waste of paper? He actually seems like a douche bag.
19. ChafedBanana (Posts: 312; Member since: 20 Sep 2011)
Yeah, a paper bill that size DOES = douche bag.

Nice! Now its my turn. I will go to my SMS bomber, type in "hi", set counter to 1,000,000 and send hi to myself. I shall easily break this record in a matter of days!
34. SoFredUp (Posts: 10; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
except.. sending hi to yourself would only show up as one message, and it would bottleneck your data transmission by sending and receiving at the same time.. i would know these things ;)
