Windows Phone now accounts for over 10% of European sales, Android still dominant

0. phoneArena 02 Dec 2013, 19:37 posted on

The view at the top of the mobile platform world isn't exactly the most exciting. Android has the lead and doesn't look to be giving up that position in the near future. The far more interesting action is happening on the lower end where Windows Phone is continuing its charge, especially in Europe where Microsoft's platform has taken over 10% of the recent smartphone sales...

How can you be invested in the Android ecosystem at all? You can get absolutely every song, video or app without paying a single cent.

Things that comes to my mind when i see an apple iphone is, girls, teen grls, technophobes, fashion people... So i find it very hard to belive to see that ios has such a huge lead over android in japan because the are one of the smartest people on earth.

Also businessmen nowadays. Most want something that's a universal standard that just works, not necessarily something as complex or feature-laden as Android. The fact is that iPhone is a safe choice for many people; it's solid all around and there really is nothing for which the average consumer will be left wanting. They'll have all of the apps all of their peers have, they'll be able to do the same things their peers are able to and would ask them to do, etc.. Just a common standard among their peers.

Not saying those statements reflect my view of the operating systems, just the mindset of a specific type of user.

I don't like apple and google. I am a nokian man not windows. Nokia raise WP and I hope they took over greedy Apple. I have Meego and Windows and both them Nokia. I wish Nokia go back and support Meego N9 and Symbian + windows. Windows should addddd some features like installing apps on micro sd card and file manager and more nice and useful things. Good luck

Good going. Low end devices with WP are very nice when compared to Android in the same price bracket. I hope they catch up.

Well I just saw a serious boxing match between android and wp fans. But I guess here goes nothing. I like both platforms. Basically wp is on an upward track and thats the truth. Who cares what people say the results speak for them self.

That growth has a name: Nokia. Those are the countries where Nokia was the leader a few years ago and still has an important brand recognition. I don't believe things will be the same after MS takes away the Nokia brand off their phones. All the hard work of introducing and supporting an uncompetitive OS into the market was done by Nokia, they put their whole company at risk so MS would have more than two years for developing their OS to catch up with the rest. That shows the commitment of both parts in the business. Nokia always did the best to support WP from the beggining but MS took two years to have a competitive OS. Now that things start to go well they rip off the business out of Nokia's hands. I know that's something that Nokia's costumers will have in mind next time they purchase a cellphone, they (we) will see the MS brand and will remember the mistake MS did by taking down a cellphone brand that was (is) beloved by many. Personally, I've had 5 Nokia's smartphones and I was planning to buy a new one, but now I just will look somewhere else. No Nokia, no WP.

Not going to say BB10 is better, but I do like it nonetheless. It's different and its implementation of features are actually pretty smart in some respects. Pity indeed.
