Has a point though... how well do you think a Nissan or Toyota sports car would fare in something like a Muscle Car magazine poll pitted against things like Mustangs or Camaros? Venue is as important to a poll as the survey questions.

PC does not always mean Windows. It can also mean Linux, Unix, Solaris, OS2/Warp, or whatever. PC mag just picked whatever operating system seemed most innovative and intuitive, and WP8 made the cut. Your own dislike of it doesn't reflect the general sentiment...

Absolutely. I don't buy that magazine so I had no chance to know about this poll thus no opportunity to vote. I'm sure there are people buying WP's, I've just never seen one pulled out in public.

I would have to agree that the main factor has to be the camera as that is all anyone really ever brags about with these phones. Microsoft's software may be ok but it is Nokia's hardware that is saving Microsoft.

You're right, but I see what he's saying. As someone who doesn't like PCs, I wouldn't be all that interested in reading that magazine, but an avid Windows user would be. A PC user might be more inclined to buy a WP device as well, so those are PC Mag's target audience. It's kinda like conducting a Windows vs Android vs iOS poll on Apple Insider. I'm sure iOS would come out on top in every category. Is that to say this poll was fixed...No, not at all. But with their target audience in mind, the home team did have a very slight advantage.

Many PC users also have Android devices, although MAC users will likely have an iPhone. Also, I don't think Android or iOS would be seen as more innovative and cutting edge compared to the new metro style live tiles that dominate WP8, and so this choice is correct. Home team may have won it, but the ref's didn't have to do much to intervene ;o)

I always give credit where credit is due. I hate Windows XP, Vista, 7, and ALL Windows Mobile. But Windows 8 and WP8 are miles apart from what they used to be, so I can't say they don't deserve or didn't win any of their awards fairly. I'm still convidering going to a Windows device if Nokia get's their heads out of AT&T's ahhh... Well you get what I'm saying. Not really convinced live tiles are cutting edge, but many (and even some OEMs) people don't think widgets are either. But anyway, you gotta admit if you saw a user driven poll on AndroidCentral saying Android was voted the most innovative OS of 2013 by its readers, you'd probably think ... "Well, duh!" Right?

no doubt about that, android will remain "the king" as you say. i don't think that android has any competition regarding the massive quantities of Android devices out there.
just look at samsung, spams phones and tabs like nobodies business in all price ranges. people simply chose droids due to the fact that the market is full of them, and they are mostly cheap from low to mid end.
but in terms of the OS WP has a great chance of passing iOS indeed and getting close to Android.

It's a $600 phone off contract. So is Samsung's most popular phone, the GS3. The Note 2 is $800 off contract. Let's keep it honest, you can't compare the price of a Galaxy Y and a Lumia 920 and think thats a fair comparison.

Well, just imagine Samsung stopping support for Android, and developing phones for another platform...
HALF(+) of the Android fans will follow their "mother", Samsung, and Google will loose SO much ground.
Everything is fluid on the top...
But, in general, yes, I believe that nothing can beat the freedom and openness of Android. Even when this freedom is bound with ads (everywhere), it still is sweet.

They have different kernel WP7 is based on Win CE, while Windows Phone 8 replaces its previously Windows CE-based architecture with one based on the Windows NT kernel (with many components shared with Windows 8).

The reason is that the hardware capable of running WP8 and WP7 is completely different (although it's still called WP), the programs that run in those OS also involves different compilation. In case of android both 4.2 and 4.1 (and even earlier versions) can run in the same device (and that actually happens), and the same program can also run in both versions of Android OS.
I think that's the main reason.

WP7 and WP8 are not the same operating system. WP8 is based on the NT Kernel, and if you don't believe me, then try running WP8 apps on a WP7.x device. All I can say is good luck ;o)
