Very delighted to hear the news.. Slowly but steadily WP8 is grabbing the attention it deserves. Worth it.

no it is not ....they did the survey on a mag that is baught only by Pc fans. hence the name

Another anti nokia or anti windows bot!

14. roscuthiii posted on 14 Mar 2013, 04:56 7 3

Has a point though... how well do you think a Nissan or Toyota sports car would fare in something like a Muscle Car magazine poll pitted against things like Mustangs or Camaros? Venue is as important to a poll as the survey questions.

Maxwell should probably amend the title to read: Windows Phone earns top honors in PCMag's Readers’ Choice Awards

34. Tarzan posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:05 8

Then how would you explain Samsung being a winner on the other GSM networks apart from At&t ? It should again be Nokia, right ?

13. UrbanPhantom posted on 14 Mar 2013, 04:54 13 2

PC does not always mean Windows. It can also mean Linux, Unix, Solaris, OS2/Warp, or whatever. PC mag just picked whatever operating system seemed most innovative and intuitive, and WP8 made the cut. Your own dislike of it doesn't reflect the general sentiment...

19. StreetNerd posted on 14 Mar 2013, 05:26 14 1

and android users are also PC users.... so what ur point? u are using a PC aswell =)

32. sats.mine2k4 posted on 14 Mar 2013, 07:50 8

You must be very well informed!!! Google uses MAC and moved away from PC's like a couple years ago.

I have been an android user since it's launch and never held a pc...

36. Tarzan posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:07 3

LOL @ Google uses MAC, is Google really a person ?
On a serious note, why would they move away from PC when tons of advertisement money comes from Windows PC's ?

39. faisal8708 posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:13 2

"Google uses MAC and moved away from PC's like a couple years ago." any source? And y they dont use Chrome OS?

PC's r used by majority of the people irrespective of which mobile OS they use just because WP came on top doesnt mean u hav to cry like a bitch

40. StreetNerd posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:15 1

well the majority (average joe) is still using PC.

and u are just a tech savy user ofcoz u use MAC.

52. Contreramanjaro posted on 14 Mar 2013, 09:29

Of course Google uses a machine access code. In fact, I'd imagine they use thousands.

41. lyndon420 posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:37

Absolutely. I don't buy that magazine so I had no chance to know about this poll thus no opportunity to vote. I'm sure there are people buying WP's, I've just never seen one pulled out in public.

I would have to agree that the main factor has to be the camera as that is all anyone really ever brags about with these phones. Microsoft's software may be ok but it is Nokia's hardware that is saving Microsoft.

43. -box- posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:43

PC Mag reviews other things besides Windows computers, including gadgets and apple stuff.

62. Whateverman posted on 14 Mar 2013, 12:45

You're right, but I see what he's saying. As someone who doesn't like PCs, I wouldn't be all that interested in reading that magazine, but an avid Windows user would be. A PC user might be more inclined to buy a WP device as well, so those are PC Mag's target audience. It's kinda like conducting a Windows vs Android vs iOS poll on Apple Insider. I'm sure iOS would come out on top in every category. Is that to say this poll was fixed...No, not at all. But with their target audience in mind, the home team did have a very slight advantage.

67. UrbanPhantom posted on 14 Mar 2013, 15:46

Many PC users also have Android devices, although MAC users will likely have an iPhone. Also, I don't think Android or iOS would be seen as more innovative and cutting edge compared to the new metro style live tiles that dominate WP8, and so this choice is correct. Home team may have won it, but the ref's didn't have to do much to intervene ;o)

68. Whateverman posted on 14 Mar 2013, 16:15

I always give credit where credit is due. I hate Windows XP, Vista, 7, and ALL Windows Mobile. But Windows 8 and WP8 are miles apart from what they used to be, so I can't say they don't deserve or didn't win any of their awards fairly. I'm still convidering going to a Windows device if Nokia get's their heads out of AT&T's ahhh... Well you get what I'm saying. Not really convinced live tiles are cutting edge, but many (and even some OEMs) people don't think widgets are either. But anyway, you gotta admit if you saw a user driven poll on AndroidCentral saying Android was voted the most innovative OS of 2013 by its readers, you'd probably think ... "Well, duh!" Right?

71. bevans512 posted on 14 Mar 2013, 21:29

Perhaps a helpful definition: A personal computer (PC) is any general-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and original sales price make it useful for individuals, and which is intended to be operated directly by an end-user with no intervening computer operator.

73. corps1089 posted on 27 Mar 2013, 19:39

Apple makes PCs since they adopted the same architecture as everyone else a few years back.

5. speckledapple posted on 14 Mar 2013, 04:21 10 2

Slowly but surely the beast grows. And even though Android will still remain king Win Phone just might pass iOS.

23. GJanee posted on 14 Mar 2013, 05:36 5 2

no doubt about that, android will remain "the king" as you say. i don't think that android has any competition regarding the massive quantities of Android devices out there.
just look at samsung, spams phones and tabs like nobodies business in all price ranges. people simply chose droids due to the fact that the market is full of them, and they are mostly cheap from low to mid end.
but in terms of the OS WP has a great chance of passing iOS indeed and getting close to Android.

28. faisal8708 posted on 14 Mar 2013, 06:45 4 3

Android will remain king but only b/c of $100 phones

42. Whateverman posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:37 2 2

Isn't the Lumia 920 a $100 phone? And all other windows phones around the same?

47. No_Nonsense posted on 14 Mar 2013, 09:05 1 1

The world doesn't have only contract phones.

53. Whateverman posted on 14 Mar 2013, 10:08

Well that can be the answer for all the people saying the only reason Android is king because of $100 phones. Not everyone buys Android devices on contract either.

51. faisal8708 posted on 14 Mar 2013, 09:27 1

No its a $600 phone Galaxy y is a $100 phone

54. Whateverman posted on 14 Mar 2013, 10:27

So is your point that Android is king because Samsung sold several hundred million Galaxy Ys? How dare Samsung make a phone for poor people!

It's a $600 phone off contract. So is Samsung's most popular phone, the GS3. The Note 2 is $800 off contract. Let's keep it honest, you can't compare the price of a Galaxy Y and a Lumia 920 and think thats a fair comparison.

Well listen, we're all sorry that bully bends you over and takes your manhood from you at lunch time, bullying is wrong! But that doesn't give you the right to come in here and talk tough. Face to face, I would make you piss your panties, Lucy! So how about we just call it ...

and you can get back to deepthroating, okay?

P.S. just curious... Do you $wallow too?

70. Whateverman posted on 14 Mar 2013, 20:12

Lol, I'm sorry Papss. I was trying to play nice, but I hate when someone disagrees with what you say, but instead of debating, they start insulting and attacking you. We're all tech fans, geeks, and nerds to various degrees. I love that we have a place to share opinions and ideas with like-minded people, so why can't we all debate in a civil manner without all the insults?

Anyway, sorry everyone. I'll be good now.

7. darac posted on 14 Mar 2013, 04:26 2 3

How many windows phones are on offer on AT&T?
There's not a single low end, cheap model.
I bet 90 percent of that score comes from two Nokia models, and the rest is HTC 8X.

Also, most people still just want a good looking, quality made, smooth, easy to use, reliable phone that can do social networking, texting, calling, and taking photos.
Nokia 920 and 820 have all that covered.

A person that wants a truly versatile pc and gaming console in her pockets, has only one real choice to make though.

18. networkdood posted on 14 Mar 2013, 05:25 1

Widows phones on AT&T are pretty inexpensive..49.99 to 99.99. Good deal

33. kostas12ldb posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:00 1

Well, just imagine Samsung stopping support for Android, and developing phones for another platform...
HALF(+) of the Android fans will follow their "mother", Samsung, and Google will loose SO much ground.
Everything is fluid on the top...
But, in general, yes, I believe that nothing can beat the freedom and openness of Android. Even when this freedom is bound with ads (everywhere), it still is sweet.
(wrong part)
This goes to GJanee & speckledapple

45. -box- posted on 14 Mar 2013, 08:46

Actually I think they still sell the (7.8) Lumia 900, a couple of Samsung Focus-series, and maybe the Titan 2 as $1 or free devices.

8. jroc74 posted on 14 Mar 2013, 04:27 9

2013 is gonne be an interesting year in the smart phone wars. This might be the make or break year some some.

11. pongkie posted on 14 Mar 2013, 04:44 1

WP 7 = android

wut?

12. rajagopalan.k posted on 14 Mar 2013, 04:52 5 1

now don't mistake me
but if windows have separate ratings for WP7 and WP8
isn't is fishy to see android not to have seperate ratings for 4.2, 4.1, etc.,

25. darac posted on 14 Mar 2013, 05:56 1 3

Great point!

26. jlp34876 posted on 14 Mar 2013, 06:34 1 1

They have different kernel WP7 is based on Win CE, while Windows Phone 8 replaces its previously Windows CE-based architecture with one based on the Windows NT kernel (with many components shared with Windows 8).

27. windroid posted on 14 Mar 2013, 06:41 1

The reason is that the hardware capable of running WP8 and WP7 is completely different (although it's still called WP), the programs that run in those OS also involves different compilation. In case of android both 4.2 and 4.1 (and even earlier versions) can run in the same device (and that actually happens), and the same program can also run in both versions of Android OS.
I think that's the main reason.

31. UrbanPhantom posted on 14 Mar 2013, 07:17 2 1

WP7 and WP8 are not the same operating system. WP8 is based on the NT Kernel, and if you don't believe me, then try running WP8 apps on a WP7.x device. All I can say is good luck ;o)

72. darac posted on 15 Mar 2013, 02:55

Well then that is the greatest fail ever!!
They are both WINDOWS PHONE aren't they?

Justifying the use of a double standard, good luck with that to you

15. Timmehor posted on 14 Mar 2013, 04:57 9 1

Ladies and Gentleman, i'm proud to present to you the next biggest competitor, Windows Phone! :D

16. clevername posted on 14 Mar 2013, 05:06 1 1

Not that fishy since they are technically different operating systems (based on different kernels). OG windows mobile would also be a separate OS, as would be webOS compared to palm OS, and therefore separate category. But I do see your point. It skews the number of total windows phone users, although it could be argued that it does so justly.

24. papss posted on 14 Mar 2013, 05:46 3 1
