Windows Phone Cortana will have personality, but you will have control

0. phoneArena 20 Feb 2014, 14:48 posted on

Throughout the life of Windows Phone, Microsoft has obviously been trying to toe the line between the wide-open possibilities of Android and the curated and controlled world of iOS. Windows Phone gives users and developers more customization and control than iOS, but not nearly as much as Android. And, a new report about Cortana, the virtual assistant coming with Windows Phone 8.1, shows that Microsoft is continuing to toe that line...

I do play Halo, at times, quite a bit...I hope Microsoft can be innovative with Cortana and bring her out as a hologram emitting from a smartphone, with the next software upgrade...

They are really moving along quite nicely. It seems like momentum is picking up. Still catching up to Android but it really feels like they are making great progress. Better late than never and if they keep going they will gather more fans. I see a bright future....good job MS.

Agreed, well said.
MS might get its mojo back in the course of the year.

Honestly I have an android smartphone, tablet, etc. but I really have to give credit to Microsoft for catching up fast in terms of the quality of their software and services.

I know people love to bash Bing, but having recently trying it myself after much doubting, I find their services across the board to be generally on par and even better in some ways. (I like Bing's language translator and image search more)

In terms of functionality most of Microsoft's services are not behind at all. I think the controversial UI design of Windows 8 caused people to think it had inferior features, although now I realize that is not true.

I agree. The services are not behind. I like the UI for desktop. Sometimes I like the UI for WP8 but I really prefer the PC look for Windows 8 tiles. I think people just don't like the big huge squares. I think if they gave it the Windows 8 tile look...like the Surface RT but the look on a phone. That would be awesome.

I guess it is easy to make a voice assistant when you can handpick features from other software

You mean software that they have pioneered for decades? You do know MS voice services has been used before android even took fruit in lab...'98 I believe was the year. To lazy to look it up right now

Dude? Seriously let's be honest right now, while I don't think they are riping of androids/iOS ideas I think there are taking decent hints from them, your "pioneer project" was probably a joke ms forgot about because hardware and software where not there. I think credit should go where it deserves to go

Just so you know your avegare smartphone is 4 times faster than your avegarr windows 98 PC

Actually yeah...you nailed it bud lol. The pic of the blue hued chick was the main reason for me stopping by this article. I had to give the endless supply of porn my Android allows me to enjoy a much needed break...so I came here - pun intended ;-)

I want them to have the option to use the animated character from the game, not a blue smiley-face ball.
