It goes without saying that if this turns out to be true, then it will be a significant step toward Windows...

Always thought it was there, now I know they might finally get to release it in windows 8.1

Windows Mobile 6.5 is cooler than 7 and 8.

At least winmo is a true smart phone in its time.

Anything is cooler than WP7 and 8, in its current state. lets see if 8.1 improves stuff, or is another fluff update like GDRx.

I also want the stupid/slow/tedious protocol Microsoft is using, currently, for file transfer on WP8 devices. It just takes too long, just to copy a bunch of songs.

And also a file manager.

Sure feels like they're dragging their feet to bring wp to wm parity indeed.

One was a powerhouse, one is currently a outhouse.

Keep on dreaming buddy! After using WP on my Lumia 1020 I will never go back to android! and to think how smooth this thing runs on a DUAL CORE processor just show how crap Android is optimized!

question should be how good pic it takes . S4/Ip5s can take 10 crapy pics and 1020 can take one that best them all.

Who cares, no one cares about pictures and photos? What is driving deman is brand, specs, and feature, not camera. Do you see Nokia selling Lumia 920,925,928,1020,,, no only cheap Nokia WP are selling well! This shows that people are really not interest in WP platform, but prefer Android and iOS,,,,

Tell me what do you really use that amazing specs for?

Not once did it happen when using a Note 3 that "Wow thats the amazing octacore processor thats doing that"

On my 1020 people are everytime amazed how great my pictures look and how far I can zoom in! Don't even talk about how many look at my Bright Yellow phone instead of all the other boring black and with one you fandroids are rocking!

dont be too cocky. many people still care about pictures and photos, like me.
nokia sell well on cheap phones because they are cheap and people get what they pay for.

It has a camera startup of 6.1 seconds and a shot-to-shot time of 3.6 seconds for 5 mpx photos and 4.2 seconds for 38 mpx photos.

OK you know why it takes long because large picture and Main thing is catching more pixels & details. Good question by the way.

What will the Nokia fanboys reponse be when 4.5 brings a far superior camera api that can actually support cameras like the one of the 1020, it won't be long before Oppo or Sony jump on it to beat Nokia once its released.

Problem is, Nokia will no longer be in the handset production business in the next few months.

Why couldn't Microsoft just leave them on their own?

:(

This assumes the hardware supports it too. OTG isn't merely a software thing, the device has to be made to provide voltage OUT of the USB port to power the device; it's not merely input (even if the device itself is powered). I've seen plenty of Android devices that had the software for OTG, but the option is grayed-out because the hardware doesn't support it. Conversely, there's devices that support OTG with the hardware, but need 3rd party software like Stickmount to be functional.

The question is: do current WP8 devices have the hardware to support OTG with an update to 8.1, or is this only going to be a possibility in future devices?

Im afraid M$ wont have anything to bring to the table for wp9. Maybe an RT like multi window multitasking for big screen phones.

Not new, BlackBerry Z30 always had it. But the media never made noise about it cause you know it's BlackBerry the most hated platform amongst media houses.

And it took WP 5 years to provide this while it had it on Android 5 years ago.

So it will take 10 years for WP to have what Android KitKat has,,,?

No wonder no one wants to use or try WP.

People want something that doesn't look like it was made in 1995 (android) and something that has the function of android.. This is what wp8.1 seems to be doing. Why the hatred? Are you butthurt or just that pothetic?

+1 to you

I agree. The OS itself is already amazing. Its beautiful on my 1520.
Hopefully this update shuts up all the haters saying it lacks "this" and "that"
I am a WinDroid fan lol

i love my Note 3 but my next daily driver might be the succesor to the 1520

Cheers

Doesn't matter how many 5 year old features they add. Without the apps that people actually want, this platform will never be anything big. It will always be a very distant 3rd. Simple as that.
