Windows Phone 8.1 being tested, according to AdDuplex data

0. phoneArena 05 May 2013, 00:23 posted on

A tweet from AdDuplex's Alan Mendelevich teases one last interesting note before the May report is issued, and it is all about Windows Phone 8.1 showing up on the mobile ad network, being tested on the Nokia P4301 test device as well as on the HTC 8X and the Nokia Lumia 920; the update could be the phone version of Windows Blue or something a little less major...

Are Windows Phone updates free? I'm asking cause i don't have a WP, but a Sony Laptop that runs Windows. My phones are Apple and Android.

Yes, Microsoft isn't great but at least they're not Apple. Apple is the only one that charges for updates on their phones.

Huh? I didn't know that Apple will charge their users for updating their phones! Are you sure?

All I know is that Apple have too many limitations, no freedom at all.

Actually Apple charged their users back in 2008 and 2009, at least i remember paying 2.99 (or 1.99 i'm not sure) for my ipod touchs iOS upgrade!

WTF?! Talking outta your ass again! Apple NEVER charged for iOS updates on its iPad, iPhone and iPod. The updates have been and will always be FREE.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking! Why would Apple charge their users for updating their phones? It's just an update.

Even though Apple have too many limitations, but Apple won't do that!

Apple is the only one that charges for updates on their phones? NONSENSE!

head out of a$$ please... Apple never charges for mobile updates.

Microsoft however are very..cunning case and point, version 7.5 to 8 debacle (yes you didnt have to buy the updates but you needed to buy a new phone - Same thing chico)

most likely if you want the new update it could be you need to buy a new phone again, Lumia 920 perhaps

Yeah, it's free. If your phone supports WP 8.0, then it will receive and will run the 8.1 update when it's out. However, major updates, like WP 9.0, will most likely only be supported/available on more capable new phones, but there might be some exceptions for the current high-end WP phones, although there's no knowledge at this time of the hardware requirements to run WP 9.0.

i dont think that that will heppen, probably every wp8 phone will get updates, i mean lumia 520 ,620, 720, htc 8s will be outdated ?
and 520,620 and 720 are relativly new phones, if they do that lots of ppl will be pissed on MS and nokia and probably will get lower sales :/
that is just my opinion, and every1 know if you treat your csumers good they will stik with you and that is what ms and any wp8 manufacturer need

Agree with you both. Of course, there may be some issues with those lower end WPs with less RAM then others, but MS has stated repeatedly in no uncertain terms that there will be a path for WP8's to get all updates over the next 18-24 months.

I will say this: From Windows Mobile getting discontinued for WP7, then the kernal issue ending WP7when launching WP8, MS has left a ton of users out in the cold. They need to prove they mean what they say.

Screw IE11. My biggest complaint with WP is the fact that no decent browsers are on the platform. Mobile IE sucks.

Who said that Mobile IE sucks? IE is better than many browsers, it is safer, faster, and easier to use!

WebKit based browsers destroy mobile IE. Dolphin and Safari are more standards compliant, faster, and they don't look like crap. Chrome is close, but not quite as good. Take off your fanboy glasses and actually try the different mobile browsers, and you will see how bad mobile IE is. The BB10 browser is new, and it makes IE10 look silly.

You need to take off your 'anti-WP' glasses as well, if you didn't try IE10 before, don't act like an expert.

He's right, WebKit is becoming the standard for web developers : Chrome uses it, safari uses it, even firefox and opera uses it, only IE doesn't and use their own engine, and there are tons of unoptimised websites for IE 10, just look at these :

And these are just examples. So stop being everyone's fanboy because it's becoming raeally pathetic.

When I read your comment, I'm trying to be calm, but until I read the last sentence, it's over.

I'm not being everyone's fanboy, I'm just being fair.

Geez...........Butthurt and unacceptable.

Chrome is actually moving from webkit to a new engine called Blink, so webkit is far from becoming a standard for web browsing, and just because IE doesn t use it doesn t mean it sucks.

It's more pathetic that you attack someone because they like something else that you may not like. And the examples you gave are from Google sites, which are known not to be optimized for IE. Which is probably purposeful. IE10 mobile browser is perfectly fine. I use it all the time compared to my Android and it's much faster. Well, that may or may not be true depending on the phones hardware, but nonetheless, it's browser is perfectly fine.

You are probably right but there's no need to screw Windows Phone or users. Just let them know what you have found about your research. And yeah WebKit is becoming standard and improving.

Troll just stop the reaching... You must be lonely.
Bing is far from crap, in fact I completely stopped using google aka big brother in favor of Bing and its great reward system. IE10 is pretty good and looks far better than than the goofy chrome with its odd button layout. Maybe a foxfire would do well.
