Windows Phone 8 critical errors look just like the ones on a desktop PC
0. phoneArena posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:19
Believe it or not, the images you are about to see haven't been Photoshopped. These are real error messages displayed on Windows Phone 8 devices – an HTC Windows Phone 8X and a Nokia Lumia 920, in this case. Interestingly, they are identical to the error screens that pop-up in desktop versions of the Windows operating system whenever something goes seriously wrong...

Ah..., good to see that the Blue Screen of Death is alive and well. I wonder if MS has a design patent for that?
9. TheLibertine posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:39 3 10
Actually, that is lame. The screen the Windows users sees most is unchanged for years! Where is the point upgrading?
39. Sangeet posted on 15 Jan 2013, 13:04 2 0
what are you talking about?? Upgrading an error screen?? LAME.

lol on PC MS couldn't care less how things look

Never had a kernel panic on Android.. Oh well..
8. Droid_X_Doug posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:37 1 4
But Android doesn't have the Blue Screen of Death.... For that matter, neither does iOS. Only MS.
13. yowanvista posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:47 6 0
The Linux kernel used in Android actually has something similar

Now that I think about it....I have never seen it on any Android phone I had. I have rooted almost every phone I had, some I installed ROMs on. I see force closes....but not this.
35. jdep1 (banned) posted on 15 Jan 2013, 10:41 1 1
Don't forget windows phones are not that easy to hack. On Android almost all devices have been hacked, rooted, ROMs have been made, clockmod & so on.. The guys getting errors like that on there wp8 devices are not afraid of bricking even thought they know there might not be a fix if they brick.
41. jroc74 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:36 1 0
I also just thought of this...
Ppl talk about Android phones and rebooting. Maybe instead of a kernel panic message...the phone just reboots. Similar to iOS not showing force close messages....it just freezes and eventually gets back to the home screen.
I have had Android phones in the past reboot after a specific situation. My RAZR Maxx HD rarely reboots. My Droid X1 did it on a weekly basis...lol.

'Don't forget windows phones are not that easy to hack.'
LOL!!! whatever!! ANYTHING IS EASY if you know how.... and there is always someone who knows! so your stupid saying is totally irrelevant, NULL AND VOID!!
51. miles16852 posted on 21 Jan 2013, 17:01 0 0
your so right, windows mobile never really did that well anyway, and wont do well now either,, windows mobile does not belong on a cell phone, and soon will die once again! truth hurts! dont need GATES JUNK on a cell phone
4. ilia1986 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:30 6 1
Sure. I'll just find my Windows installation disk, put it in a blender, blend it, then spill whatever comes out into the micro-USB port. There, problem fixed.
5. easymomo posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:30 1 1
Now let's wait for the first Virus and Worms targeting Windows phones. Microsoft is an expert with security flaws. I wonder how the phones will handle the viruses, worms and malwares affecting the desktop version.
11. Droid_X_Doug posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:41 0 1
That is an interesting question. Ordinarily, I would argue MS has protection by virtue of its low market opportunity (hackers like inviting targets with huge installed base). But this exposure tends to invalidate the low market opportunity argument. Sounds like MS has some problems to contend with.

Bwahahahahaha insert disk ok but where??? ROFL
Too much copy pasting of code :D

SD card slot? But those with no removable storage would seem to be a bit screwed, though.
All may not be lost for RIM and BB10.

if rim lands a good product they will secure their 3rd spot

He refers to another bug where WP users are prompted to "insert disk and restart the COMPUTER" ROFL
16. Mallouette posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:50 0 0
So that's why Windows 8 shares its kernel to Windows Phone 8 so developers of this platform can easily port applications. They had the same process whenever an error occurs.
17. B3BLW29 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 04:55 2 0
It seems MS has taken "similar UI and Similar features across all devices" concept too seriously :P
19. rusticguy posted on 15 Jan 2013, 05:06 0 0
Do they throw their once famous BIGBOOBS error also -- 0X81680085 error code?
29. rusticguy posted on 15 Jan 2013, 06:46 0 0
Yes typically M$ error codes are mosrtly crpto-numeric code so i put it so on purpose but the correct one is your version :)
20. Shino posted on 15 Jan 2013, 05:13 3 1
Well, believe it or not, at Handroid the crytical errors look just the same as these in WP, but without any text - only the black screen! OH, THE IRONY! :)
44. jroc74 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:58 0 0
Might be half right. I'm assuming Android was coded to just reboot the phone....and not show an error message.
Fanboyism is a disease.....
22. Just_a_boy posted on 15 Jan 2013, 05:46 1 3
Fake! Look the capacitive buttons on the Lumia 920 they are not even light up. And the user tried to jailbreak the phone or something, and if it is true, only proofs that the phone has the same core of the desktop version
23. haseebzahid posted on 15 Jan 2013, 05:58 1 1
looks purely photo taking of desktop display the drive path doesnt even look Legit
24. kainy posted on 15 Jan 2013, 06:00 0 0
Well, fortunately we cannot see such an error JUST like that... :)
26. bluescreen posted on 15 Jan 2013, 06:16 1 3
uh hello to the writer of this article but believe it or not microsoft did develop the windows phone 8 software hence the name so why wouldnt it look like the error messages u see on a pc? good lord....*face palm*
27. nlbates66 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 06:22 0 1
the black screen ones are right, however I believe that they don't show the blue screen error that the writer has put in the article thumbnail.
30. pookiewood posted on 15 Jan 2013, 07:00 3 4
Wow some people here don't get it. Just like majority of Android users don't know what Open and rooting mean, majority of Windows users will never see these screens. It built on the NT kernal. Why would this surprise anyone that the error messages are the same or similar? I'm sure if Androids base code started on a computer with a cd rom we'd see something similar. Remember the early versions of Android had stolen code in it that didn't get removed. Stop jumping to conclusions.
34. cripton805 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 10:33 2 0
Youre saying to stop jumping to conclusions yet.
YOU ARE JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS.
45. pookiewood posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:39 0 0
If you think I'm jumping to conclusions you clearly don't understande my comment. I'm assuming you are thinking that I mean the average user will see Android base code. They wont and I thought I made that perfectly clear in my comment.
43. jroc74 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:50 0 0
1. The majority of Windows users on desktops might see that screen ....driver and hardware issues can cause that message.
2. You were doing fine until you got to Android and stolen code. Whatever code you were refering to would have never been seen by a regular user, even most root and ROM users would never have seen it. I think only actual coders woulda seen it.
And was it actually established that it was stolen? I cant remember...if thats the case...how in the world did they win the Oracle case?
That still doesnt excuse a desktop error message showing up on a mobile phone. The general public might go to their phone carrier asking for the WP install disc for their phone....
46. pookiewood posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:50 0 0
1. Desktop? I thought we were talking about phones.
2. I wasn't using the stolen code example as an example of what normal users would see. I was using more of an example of things that exist in the OS that would never be seen by Joe the Plumber.
http://appleinsider.com/articles/12/04/19/google_engineers_d efend_source_code_email_in_ora cle_lawsuit_over_java.html
Once again.....THEY WILL NEVER SEE THIS ERROR!
48. jroc74 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 21:22 0 0
You said Windows users....not desktop or mobile. You didnt even say Windows Phone...
Are you saying a kernel panic can only happen on WP or any mobile phone by tinkering with the OS? I dont really know....I know on desktops it can happen due to hardware or driver issues. Could an sd card error cause this? What about a charging cord issue?

You android/apple clowns can spread all the fud in the world, it still won't stop the wave of ordinary phone users that are about to dump android/IOS in favour of Windows Phone and Blackberry 10.
33. cripton805 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 10:30 1 1
Jelous much? Its weird how youre "predicting" the future. Android and Windows are too different. Many people wont switch because Android is open. There are many people that like Android and it runs good.
The problems people have had is on the phones themselves, like the Droid Bionic for example. My Razr was stable as hell. My friends Bionic always had issues.
37. -SEUL8TR- posted on 15 Jan 2013, 12:24 1 1
Keep dreaming this will never happen, if it has been 8 years for WP they still are not preferred buy publics.
42. jroc74 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:44 0 0
You mean like how the orig iPhone was a joke...that nobody would switch to that from the old Win Mo, Palm and BB? You mean like how Android was garbage...and nobody would switch to that from the old Win Mo, Palm and BB?
If ppl were gonna dump Android or the iPhone in droves...it woulda already happened by now. WP has been out since what 2010? Its 2013...The only way for ppl to dump the iPhone and Android in droves is if they both started sucking royally....and that doesnt look like its gonna happen anytine soon.
Why do some ppl feel one product must fail for another so succeed? Do you think Android or iOS is failing? They are both succeeding. Good luck to WP and BB tho..
53. miles16852 posted on 21 Jan 2013, 17:12 0 0
you mean the TINY wave of clowns of ordinary phone users that make the mistake of going to wp8! LOL! BB has has moutains of success compared to window mobile period,, windows phone will be dead sooner then you think, just like it did years ago, its like beating a DEAD HORSE!
38. freebee269 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 12:48 1 0
this is what you get when you mess with the hardware or firmware of your windows phone device AKA hacking. the normal user will not see this. therefore nothing to see here in this article. move along.
