Windows Mobile 6.5 completed, awaiting phones now
Here’s a piece of good news for all business users – the WM Development Team has said on Twitter that all work on Windows Mobile 6.5 is completed. This basically means that the platform should be ready for distribution (or is already being distributed) to smartphone and pocket PC manufacturers. Here is the statement, found on Twitter:

“For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE... complete... looks really good IOHO and every bit functional. ping us if u want to know more.”

Well, it looks like everything is going according to plan and we will probably see the first WM6.5-based phones sometime in the fourth quarter of the year.

I flashed my Omnia to the cooked 6.5, and I have to say its definitely a big improvement on 6.1. The unlock screen is an awesome improvement, theres a lot of new features with what you can do with alerts from the unlock, the whole interface is a lot more finger friendly. It's not the huge earth shattering change WinMo needed to get back into the mix as a consumer friendly device, but its still good. As a WinMo fan I had just hoped we would get a little more.

Hey idiotwind13 you should help me with that, post a non-html link so I can get that, I have an omnia but to many "bricked" stories are scaring me away to try it on my own with out someone who has done it themselves, it'd be appreciated.

Hi idiotwind13, I would also like some help with getting 6.5 to my Omnia if you would be so willing to lend a hand. Thanks

I will check up on it when I get home, the instructions the guys at MoDaCo (I believe) had were pretty good, I just had to figure out how to get everything unzipped from the formats, and loading the actual flashing utility took me a little figuring out, but once I got everything where it needed to be it was pretty straightforward, and mad props to WoZZer and whoever else was involved. Ill be back on here tonight and try to offer any help I can.

So basically you can follow the instructions the geniuses on the Modaco forum posted, there were just a couple things that threw me. You need to flash it first with the cooked 6.1 that unlocks the GPS (mixed results with that particular feature for me). You also need to DL the flashing utility and install it first, should have been obvious but it wasnt to me. All the instructions are there,http://www.modaco.com/content/i910-specific-omnia-rom-discussion/287503/wozzers-wm6-5-21222-i910-co oked-rom-v-03/ Dont worry too much about bricking your phone, I'm by no means an expert and I managed to do it. I've flashed a lot of feature phones at work and its not very common, just make sure not to unplug it halfway through. A little scary but I would say worth it, especially since he freed up a ton of system memory. I think mine had like 40 MB more than the stock one when I checked it.
