Windows 8 tablets might go for $599-$899, thanks to stubborn pricing from Intel and Microsoft

0. phoneArena 16 Jan 2012, 04:00 posted on

If the dynamic Wintel duo goes with the same profit margins it is used to, this could translate to a $599-$899 price range for a Windows 8 tablet that can run all of the 4 million Windows Programs written so far, depending on the configuration...

1) its not "greed". thats an idiot liberals word. its capitalism. The market will bear the pricing.. or it wont. and if it doesnt, the pricing will drop and fast.

2) Gates hasnt been in charge of MS for a good little while now. wow.. do you still yell at Jobs on Apple articles too? lol

Greed doesn't only belong to idiot liberals or idiot conservatives. It belongs to anyone who wants something for nothing.

I will only want a windows 8 tablet only if it comes with an intel I5 . because old application won't work on ARM chips and the ARM version won't have access to desktop according to rumours

It's a irony that whenever a company decides to partner with MS, only MS makes money. Look at the PC market. Everyone sells a lot of units, but almost 0 margin. If MS licenses are like 100-200 bucks, how can OEMs make anything below 500?

Its competition that's bringing down the price idiot, unlike Apple that gives other manufacturers zero chance.

" Rumored "
wake me up when official price show up or even when windows 8 final version released
windows 8 will be able to run on low hardware machines so you should expect to see different prices with different hardware options so it can't be 500 to 800 unless you want high end tablet
Capeesh ?

..........
............
................
.......ok I'm pretty sure most of the ppl that visits this site no doubt has the $$$ to buy these products that we digitally drooling over. But with High end devices doing well with LOW prices Cmon coming from retail point of view; PPL are getting tired of {average, good, better, best, ultra} on MS line-ups. Keep that S*** simple as a M*** F***a

Again this is just a rumor

@wp7tribes You Really think {Dell, HP, Gateway, IBM, etc} doesn't make money with MS ur crazy. Those companies are Caking. Not as much as before but off MS and Retailers. Trust me i can break it down even more on the retail side. Cause there the ones that are suffering

Absolutely useless.

The best way to run Windows programs is with a keyboard and a mouse. The best Tablet OS is Android. Nuff said. I think.

You wanna combine Windows apps + tablet form? Make the price attractive at least. If not - it's useless.

If they won't even have a competitive $300 7" tab they are wasting. Gonna their time.. We are seeing tegra 3 Android tabs under 300 popping up all the time. I could see the "slates" dropping to that range, but not just a tablet for that.

Ugh. Hope this is a rumor that ends up being about high end Tablets only.

If not, is no one from any other company paying attention to the tablet market as it exists right now? Unless your name is "iPad", you DO NO SELL AT HIGH END PRICES!! This is still a luxery market, as in people do not feel the pressing desire to own a tablet. They might like one, but do not feel they need one. They just are waiting on better product on lower price point.

Lets wait until we see the whole line of options on these before we start laughing or throwing fits.

This would be stupid though.

As long as its real windows compatibile and is powerful enough to run the regular apps and games like starcraft or WoW, it will have a dedicated audience. Hell it might be the first time WoW players step outside since they could take the game on the road... lol

For that price though, I expect hella specs/horsepower and a keyboard dock FOR FREE.

If you can't afford it, then by pass it. It's not for you. I can afford it and I will purchase one. I can afford the iPad or whatever else it out there, but I'm not interested in any of the current form factors. How many of you can afford a top class BMW, Lexus, Benz, etc.? You admire them and buy what you can afford Accord, Focus, Maxima, etc.

For those complaining it's too much, you have at least 6mths - 8mths before they are released. Save a $100 per month and there you'll have enough to afford the best tablet devices once they are released.

Samsung makes a Windows 7 slate called the Series 7 for $1,000-$1,300 and they feature i5 processors @1.6ghz w/ 4gb of ram, Will these new tablets have that kind of power? or should I just buy a Series 7?

They say the Windows 8 Arms CPU tablets will be the cheaper ones. the Intel X86 CPU are said to be in the tablets that will have desktop like a PC. the ARM chip Tablets will not have that function therefore the intel X86 tablets will do more and will cost more than the Arm Tablets. Thats the way it seems to be shaping up so far. I hope that Microsoft is aware that Apple will be selling Ipad 2's at sub 400$ prIces and sell the Ipad 3's at current prices so Microsoft better make a cheap tablet to stay in the game. Also Microsoft has to get Amazon apps and best buy apps and blockbuster apps, HULA apps and a lot entertainment and ect preloaded on their windows 8 tablets so People can use it like they use the Kindle fire. The kindle fire is not just popular because it is cheap. It the Apps it has right out the box that People use THAT MAKE IT GREAT!
