Will you switch to Sprint, if it scores an exclusive for the iPhone 5?
0. phoneArena posted on 04 Oct 2011, 06:52
After yesterday's sizzling-hot news that Sprint might actually bet the house for an iPhone 5 exclusivity deal, we were wondering - how many of you would switch their carriers of choice for the US's third-largest carrier...

hmmm. Samsung galaxy "S" then a whole year later... Iphone 4S. Sounds trademark infringement to me. Lol . But really how does a company do that? Then has no problem accusing others for copying.

you are joking, right?
do you remember a product called the iphone 3GS? (its still for sale and the 2nd best selling phone in the country)
6. oddmanout posted on 04 Oct 2011, 07:20 2 0
Are you completely forgetting about the iPhone 3G"S"? Apple has just as much right to use the letter S for speed as samsung uses it for its galaxy line.

i just voted for the android option. i feel so dirty.
seriously, if that rumor is true (which it isnt), i would at least wait until the google/samsung announcement next week to do anything.
but, apple wouldnt punish its loyals on att nor its new customers on vzw. plus, the speculation talked about wimax. no way apple would put such an investment in dying technology.

Oh come on man. Android isn't really that bad is it? ;)
By the way, my sense of integrity leads me to tell you that my fat thumbs made me thumb you down by accident. I honestly meant to thumb you up. So here's a hug to compensate. *hugs*
And give this man a thumbs up, everyone. And a Snickers. And a Klondike Bar. And a hair off Jobs' head.

android is fine. i've really enjoyed my droid X. but, i want something a bit more refined for my next device. i preach apple on these boards because i like their finished product and what they are able to do with one product per year.
i love android and im smart enough to realize that neither platform would be where it is today without the other one. i really hope windows phone is able to push them both forward rather than ride coattails like the other 3rd placers have done.
truth is, im not sure of my next device, but im hopeful that i am able to make my mind up today!

Wait for Galaxy Prime or whatever they are going to call it. Along with Ice Cream Sandwich.
If I where I would wait for that and make a choice after the dust settles.

Now if only Apple were that smart to see that competition is a good thing and actually pushes them ...
18. Mooooo posted on 04 Oct 2011, 08:43 2 0
They only care about themselves like all of them. Except they think they are the smartest.

Hey ayephoner, not trying to be a fanboy here, but I use Windows Phone 7 and I would recommend giving that a look as well before you make your decision. It is an extremely smooth UI, has a lot of cool features (especially with the Mango update), and you still have the ability to choose from different manufacturers.

iPhone 5 is the best and easy to use but Android platform have a lot more phones to choose from in any size and type.
20. dmakun posted on 04 Oct 2011, 08:57 1 1
pls squash this "easy to use" nonsense! It's a myth that you can't prove. They are all smart phones which generally require a degree of learning curve to use them. This "easy to use" nonsense which I suspect is pushed around by iphone fanboys is unfounded and doesn't apply to a first time user of any smart phone or mobile OS. Besides, when did learning become a bad thing?!

Toilet paper is easy to use too.
But I would not want to use it as a cell phone.

Android offerings are too compelling for me to swtich to sprint for the iPhone is exclusive.
9. zach (unregistered) posted on 04 Oct 2011, 07:36 2 0
i think if you were to switch to sprint you would regret it cause you would have the worst service ever!! i just switched from sprint to verizon and now im not ALWAYS on roam anymore and actually have 4g where i live!!
12. QWIKSTRIKE posted on 04 Oct 2011, 08:24 1 0
Too much to pay for a phone in decline, other phones have caught up to iPhone, and to win Sprint will need people from other carriers. This is why they are keeping unlimited data. The problem is infrastructure. They cant keep up now....with the iPhone burden they may find themselves in a sink hole

I waited (mostly) patiently for ages for Verizon to get an iPhone rather than switching carriers for it, and unless Apple's announcement(s) today really blows me away I may wait quite a while yet before considering an iPhone 5 anyway. If it works with Verizon LTE it might make me upgrade sooner, but I tend to get many years out of my devices and definitely wouldn't switch carriers just for a specific phone. AT&T didn't sway me, and Sprint won't either. Besides, as many are quick to point out, there are other great options available as well (Android, etc) if for some reason I suddenly feel a strong need to jump up to 4G right away. I'll wait and see what happens.

WP7 w/ Mango is by far the best option out there!
22. InspectorGadget80 posted on 04 Oct 2011, 09:17 1 0
Nope their not like AT&t when the first Iphone launches they have a 5 yr exclusive and force them not to get any other high end phone on the carrier. And Verizon didn't want it cause they say consumers weren't ready for the iPhone till the 4th one come out. I don't see how this will benefit Sprint to get the iPhone exclusively when it's now on both carriers AT&T/Verizon.
24. Geeksarebest posted on 04 Oct 2011, 09:50 0 0
Lets take something that we all know Apple loves and throw it into the equation...Money. How much money do you think Apple will be losing by throwing in an exclusive offer w/Sprint? 20 mil. is nothing compared to the amount of money Apple made off the AT&T and Verizon iPhone sales. I personally wouldn't switch. I'd be more tempted to go with something like the Galaxy S II or the HTC Holiday on my AT&T plan than switch to something I know has service issues where I live.

20 mil? Did you misread? Its 20 BILLION
27. Geeksarebest posted on 04 Oct 2011, 10:11 0 0
Eh, yeah. Doing this from a phone so the comment box was blocking everything on the page. Still not as much as they made from the other providers.

Who in the hell is voting to leave your carrier for sprint?????????? I know it has to be because they have unlimted internet, but seriously people that won't last. Unlimited internet is a thing of the past, not to mention if Sprint does get the iPhone thats all the more reason it won't have unlimited internet. Plus there service sucks.
28. Phullofphil posted on 04 Oct 2011, 10:22 1 0
All I care about is LTE 4g from Verizon. It's really fast. If the new iPhone don't have it I am getting the bionic or the samsung prime with the new ice cream sandwich OS. I don't like apple that much. The only thing that sucks is that I know an iPhone repair guy and if my iPhone breakes at all I can get it fixed for next to nothing. Or actually I can fix myself just get parts for cheap from him. That's what I will miss

Not a chance in hell, unless Verizon decides to change my unlimited data and messaging plan without my knowledge. My buddy just got his SGS2 on Sprint and another buddy got the Bionic, and these are some pretty powerful phones, I like the width of the SGS2 over that of the Bionic, but connection wise, the Bionic smokes it. WiMax is garbage I don't care what people decide to spin on it, I live in NYC and right out in Brooklyn, Park Slope area blasted Wimax was up and down and couldn't compete with the LTE. So why on earth would I think of going to sprint when they run an inferior tech that isn't worth the fee they implemented when it launched...yea it's already included on new customers bills.
iPhone 5 has to have a much larger screen than the current one do to even be a viable choice to me, I'm using a Droid X and I am in no way going smaller. 4.3" is a very good viewing size for a pocket worthy phone. iPhone is incredibly stable and holds the upper hand in reliability software wise, but I hate having me too phones. I like to search around for the newest tech and see which i would like to try out. I enjoy Motorola phones because they hold the Omap line of processors from TI, which I really like second only to Samsung's ARM chips, but Samsung phones on Verizon are lackluster at best. The new Droid Prime should fix this finally, we will have something to shine as brightly as Motorola's gems on VZW.

The only thing that would really be disappointing is if the Sprint exclusive deal is real and the Nexus Prime goes to Verizon (hopefully not for too long). That leaves at&t customers with subpar devices (at least for a little while); for instance, even though the galaxy S II is pretty nice, it's the only high-end phone (that I know of) which still has WVGA resolution and the market is moving forward to HD displays. But then again, all this is speculation (for at least another hour) so who knows. What do you guys think?
32. roscuthiii posted on 04 Oct 2011, 15:24 0 0
Welcome to a Tim Cook Apple if this deal proves true. The AT&T exclusivity deal worked because it was actually exclusive. Unlocked iPhones only worked on 2G on T-mobile. Exclusivity doesn't work when there are other attractive options. AT&T and Verizon provide those.
$20B is a lot of money, so yes it's a big money deal... but I can't help but think that Steve Jobs would have looked passed the dollar signs to actually making sure that devices were put in hands, homes, and out on the streets.
