Will Samsung steal the show with the Galaxy S IV?

0. phoneArena posted on 06 Mar 2013, 08:35

It's now just days before we finally get to see the Samsung Galaxy S IV in all its glory, and as you can imagine, we're super excited about that! Meanwhile, though, there's a number of smartphone manufacturers out there who're also eagerly awaiting the introduction of the GS IV, but with somewhat different feelings than ours...

With the success of the s3 I'm sure that it will

45. kozza3 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 10:42 1 5

but won't a lot of those people that bought the s3 still have it? I don't see the s4 doing so good with all the great competition out there

6. jellmoo posted on 06 Mar 2013, 08:45 20 2

I'm not a huge fan of the Galaxy S series, but I recognize what Samsung has done with their brand and how this flagship device remains a top tier device for months longer than the competition.

As interesting as things like the One, Xperia Z and Optimus G are, they aren't in the same league when it comes to notoriety and anticipation that the Galaxy S4 will produce. There is a reason that the Android realm is utterly dominated by Samsung.

So while it may not be my cup of tea, it's going to be the cup of tea for a whole lotta people.

10. droidluvngurl posted on 06 Mar 2013, 08:55 8 8

I agree with you to a point. I don't believe Samsung is going to bring any "earth shattering" features this time around bcuz in all truth, the majority of the features of the S3 are still very relevant. So I know they'll really have to "sell" me to get my money, bcuz I'm sold on the One.

I chose:
"Not sure. Some of the other players have very competitive smartphones this time around."

In my opinion Samsung has nothing to beat HTC One...
but we will see though what they will release on 14th.

They have thousands of iGalaxy fans.

11. Peter27 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 08:57 12 1

last nights episode of baywatch was truly epic but it is no match for the galaxy s4

12. rickywinataa posted on 06 Mar 2013, 08:57 12 1

samsung needs to create a phone that will last like s3, even after faster phones show up, s3 still stands as the best selling android phone to date

14. neutralguy posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:00 5 1

I would say that it would steal the show but can't say it's the best since most smartphones today will or have similar specifications. 5" screen, 1080p, 441ppi, 13MP camera, quadcore A15/s600.

It would steal the show for the fact that it's a well established series of phone

16. Tsepz_GP posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:06 8 8

Absolutely! 2013 is going to be Samsungs year just like 2011 for the SII and 2012 for the SIII. :)

The current crop of Android high ends don't bring enough to pose much of a threat, the HTC One has potential, but that's it. The only phone Samsung has to worry about this year is the iPhone5S.

21. InspectorGadget80 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:14 12 1

Of course they will. look what they did against the iPhone. GSIV WILL BE EPIC and will be watching

36. Hemlocke posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:53 11

What did they do, besides sell substantially less? The 4s sold more, worldwide, last year than the S3, and even outsold it in the final quarter of 2012 AFTER the iPhone 5 came out. On the used market, an S3 sells for roughly what a 4S does, which is sad, considering the 4S is 18 months old.

22. Hemlocke posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:15 4 14

Too much hype, so I think it will be a disappointment. It will feature the same garbage build, an overpowered CPU and "meh" GPU that will eat battery, and another awful, burn-in prone AMOLED screen. Samsung is at the point where they think anything they toss out is "good enough," and it is about to bite them.

57. jroc74 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 11:36 5

And all screens are prone to light leaks. So whats the point? Have the issue, replace the device.

Which reminds me....after my last 2 phones had amoled screens...and I didnt have burn in issues...I might go the Plasma route for my next TV.

Light leaks, burn in happens to a minority of folks. If it was wide spread....I cant see companies keep using Amoled screens, let alone Plasmas.

I think that last line in your post was meant for Apple....too.

We will get to a point where everything will have already been done on phones, tablets. At some point it has to hit a peak, lull. Apple's peak, lull has happened in 2011 for phones and tablets? If that...it might have happened in 2010.

70. Taters posted on 06 Mar 2013, 12:47 1

LOL Okay there...

116. Minhosa27 posted on 07 Mar 2013, 14:56

24. mooreokteacher posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:23 4 1

Sales and best phone are two different things. They will have a great phone. They will sell a crazy amount. I hate that many consumers are homers when it comes to phones. This is very similar to kids and their beats. Good headphone but not the best. They all follow. The praise should be to their marketing. That is genius.

98. taz89 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 21:40 1

marketing is all good and that but you still need to have a great product to back it up...the s3 and s2 before that won phone of the year by professionals too does that mean they fell for the marketing too. people keep saying samsung only sells because of marketing but microsoft and nokia spent alot of marketing for wp and that didnt exactly do it...the reason why i think the s phones have done well is because imo they tick majority of the boxes for what people want and is a all around good performer...other phones are great at some things but poor at others but imo the s phones have usually been good at everything.

25. BabylonShine posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:28 7 5

34. rusticguy posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:51 3

Apple is already nervous of XPERIA Z launch in India so reduced price of iPhone 5 to 42k :D

37. AamirSIII posted on 06 Mar 2013, 09:55 7 4

this is the most absurd question ever... no one can compete sammy when it comes to its flagship...
even this year's flagships from others are compared and being defeated by sammy's last year flagship, S3

It'll buy it heh.

not sure if I should thumbs up I agree they will via marketing. our thumbs down because I don't like your comment and want it to be wrong. even if you can build a better phone than Samsung, you still need to bear their marketing machine.

40. bhagi108 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 10:14 4 7

I'm done with those ugly plastic too large galaxy phones! .... going Premium this year. Silver HTC One!

haters gonna hate!

71. Taters posted on 06 Mar 2013, 12:48 4

Too large phones? I think you should be directing your hate towards the HTC One considering it's size is the equivalent of a phone with a 5 inch screen for some reason.

42. b1acktiger posted on 06 Mar 2013, 10:17 1 3

This time, i guess, HTC One will make the difference. Game Changer !

43. Jack58221 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 10:30 1 4

Will Samsung be dethroned, nope. Will HTC, Sony, and LG be cutting 3 legs off that throne and at least smile knowing that sooner out later that throne will topple. Samsung will be back at the same level as every one else, and someone new can have a shot at the big seat. prediction, Samsung walks away as number one again, but with smaller numbers.

51. cR203 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 11:04 5 2

The s4 will steal the show. All who don't believe just watch.

54. bojan posted on 06 Mar 2013, 11:27 2 4

Not sure about Samsung about the s4. HTC ONE might take it all this year.

55. _PHug_ posted on 06 Mar 2013, 11:27 6

The Galaxy S4 does not need to steal the show.

The S3 and Note 2 already own the spotlight and Samsung has held the throne since the Galaxy S2.

This will be more like the king passing his crown to his son to rule the kingdom

65. BadAssAbe posted on 06 Mar 2013, 12:37 4

As of right now, I don't really see the SGS4 Having any real rivals without their own flaws

HTC One - Has horrible phone-to-screen size ratio but Really "Cool" Unique Features

Sony Xperia Z - Has a Lackluster Screen from what i heard form most Reviews But Looks Better than anything

Nexus 4 - Great Price But lacks key features

Blackberry and Nokia have the same problems - Horrible phone-to-screen size ratio, No Apps, New OS, ECT....

iPhone5 - LOL too many flaws to list but looks nice and is fast

LG Optimus G Pro - A Faster Note 2 without the S-Pen, but with better Notification lights and IR Blaster

66. Taters posted on 06 Mar 2013, 12:40 5 2

It's pretty lopsided in favour of the GS4 already so I don't see how things will be any different this year. Let's take a look at the competitors. The GS4 would have to fail down to their level which is pretty difficult to do.

Xperia Z

Sharp brick with no attention to ergonomics and corners dig into your hands after awhile.
Too much noise in the camera
Really poor contrast screen with poor viewing angles.

Grade: fail

HTC One

4.7 inch screen but way taller and thicker than the HTC One X and every phone with a 4.7 inch screen. Same size as the 5 inch DNA and bigger than the 5 inch Xperia ZL.

The most retarded button placement and use I have ever seen in my life. A complete fail in ergonomics.

4mp camera with lots of noise. Hahaha

No wireless or dock connectors.

Grade: Fail hard

So unless the 5 inch optimus G pro slims down to a respectable thickness, it is already game over and handed to Samsung. With or without marketing

69. anjel1708 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 12:46 1 1

The screen to phone ratio on the HTC One is for the speakers. That option alone will have many buyers. Many people use their phone to watch movies and videos they made. And people hate to show their video and people cant hear it. I look at that as a big plus.

72. Taters posted on 06 Mar 2013, 12:53 1 1

I and many people would rather not feel the phone when they sit down when the phone is in their jeans pocket rather than have another speaker. In a tablet yes where watching videos is comfortable.

Besides, there are other ways of placing dual speakers in the front that do not take up valuable space. Again, like how it is used in tablets is much better.

76. gwuhua1984 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 13:12 2

With the current fashion trend... it's pretty hard not to feel the phone in their jeans pocket even when they're standing...

78. anjel1708 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 13:28 1

You do realize the size of this phone? You are going to feel it in your pocket. I will choose this feature over a phone that detects if I take my eyes are off the screen to pause the video. If my tv did that, I would go crazy. As for the speakers....even on tablets you are cupping your hand if you are in a semi loud atmosphere. Lame excuse.

90. Taters posted on 06 Mar 2013, 15:58 1

No, I don't feel the Nexus 4 or Optimus G in my pocket but unfortunately, the HTC One is way WAY bigger yet it has the same screen size.

I couldn't care less about boom sound. Haha

67. anjel1708 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 12:41 3

Not to excited with the plastic. When I think of high end I think of stronger materials. Plastic creaks with age and feels a little cheap. I want the design to be seen. If it is plastic I will be covering up the phone with a case or getting a different phone.

99. taz89 posted on 06 Mar 2013, 21:47 1

i dont think it matters majority of people today cover there phones with screen protectors and cases, i rarely see ''naked'' unless its a cheap phone..most people who have like a £500 phone like to protect there investment.
