Will Apple lose the smartphone war without Steve Jobs?
0. phoneArena 26 Nov 2012, 05:50 posted on
It seems some entrepreneurs and analysts believe that without Steve Jobs guiding the company, Apple will slowly lose the smartphone war to Google. Most of you probably know that Google's Android already commands a much larger share of the market, and has been doing so for quite a while, but the reality is that Apple's still raking in much bigger profits, thanks to its extraordinary profit margins...

To be honest,if apple wants to get their imojo back, they need to:
1:Mass storage,not tied to itunes!!
2:Bigger screen.(see s3?)
3:more customisation of ios.
Now,Tim cook would laugh like hell if he sees this. But apple will find itself conered by wp8/bb10 sooner or later,if it does not follow my suggestions.

Nah.. 4 inch is big enough. if it's screen is as big as S3 im afraid it will break in my pocket......

Use the size visualization tool on this site (in the Compare phones section). If there were minimal bezel on the S3 (and many other phones, the entire body would be just larger than an iFail5; heck, if the iFails had minimal bezels there'd be more room for screen. Bezels are gradually getting smaller, so eventually we'll have devices that look like recent TVs with a relatively minimal bezel eventually

as far as they will copy android i dont think they will , lol
Android = it got( 1 st HD rec phone , 1st hd display phone ,1st FULL HD display , wifi tehthering) ,took the smartphone world to a new level , more free apps in market and it is available in every range of price. (From 3500 k(63$) to 40000k(
Apple = copied notification panel of android and blame android for copying there innovations , copied wifi tethering from android , even it doesnt have the hd display, always expensive and but nothing to give much
and the most important starting the lawsuites..
Verdict : Android wins

I put too early to tell. Apple has already shown they are paying attention to the market leader and trying to adapt.
New notifications, bigger phone, smaller iPad, free iPhones, etc.

If iOS is going to avoid becoming yesterday's news, it really needs to update its User Interface. Look at the transition of the Android UI. Even windows has gone through a UI transition. Even RIM is supposed to have a re-worked UI in BB10.
iOS has the same UI it had back in 2007.
61. jroc74 (Posts: 5965; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
I agree with this. Even if some of us dont like the Live Tiles, its something new, different. Starting with Honeycomb Android has been updating the UI. Apple is going with the "if it aint broke mentality," and there's nothing wrong with that too.

'They've been losing before he died' should have been included in the poll.

It is a matter of time. Apple did play its game already, well played I would say. 6 years of "having" people, rediculous margin did made a lot of money for them. But rich and stupid people are limited, smart people choose functional products as so andriod for smartphones or windows for Personal Computer, to do work at home or office.
Mac and the rest apple's products is just fashion, which becoming older and older. Noone would do serious work at low working speed, childish kindergarten, with baloons everywhere (I do see mac os only so with it's icons and lots of colors everywhere).

After seeing the sadly and ugly iPhone5... yes it will lose.

Jedi an papinyc--- your favorite fanboy is here finally back from the dead of being banned. I think your hatred for a company is really sad to be honest. It's like apple has left marks on your body or something. Let jobs rest in peace.
With that said I have ended my iPhone ownership. I'm bored and its dead to me. Yes apple will ultimately lose the phone war and like you I will be at Verizon Thursday morning to buy a note 2. I'm now using an S 3 temporarily.
Don't know how I ever used an iPhone for so long. :)

I was looking for a choice that should go like, "Apple has been losing it long before Steve Jobs died." How the hell am I gonna vote now?!
55. networkdood (Posts: 6330; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
When a company tries to pass off its latest phone as being 'innovative', year after year, when it is not - then you know who lost....
60. Googlethis (Posts: 179; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
Apple wont fail nor should any one want it to. just like no one should want any of apple's compitiion to fail.
62. ckoch125 (Posts: 192; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
I think they will because Cook just doesn't have the same presence that Jobs did. They will still sell a ton of phones but you can see the luster is starting to wear off for many. Never would any android phone even come close to outselling any model iphone even right before the next one launched and now there was the maxx and now sgs3 that outsold the iphone in one quarter. That says a lot

Only idiot with no tech knowledge would buy iPhone!
95. neurobiologist (banned) (Posts: 89; Member since: 07 Nov 2012)
Sad, but there is a lot of those :( In some countries iphone costs 1600$, 1000$... someone still does buying it. We are seeing the problem, those people arent...

68. Supaheight (Posts: 66; Member since: 29 Sep 2012)
google beat their a** for real they're too expensive that's people like android more but the real thing that helped android beat apple is it amazing os and its smart actions the live wallpaper and pattern lock apple doesn't have that they're too simple android is too good for them sorry apple i never liked you that much
71. shamataa (Posts: 210; Member since: 07 Dec 2011)
I hate to say this but will lose the smartphone war. They just aren't doing a good job anymore. After seeing the iphone 5 it's pretty obvious that they lost their touch and claim to be the best company. I'm pretty sure if there wsen't a sign than people will think its a iphone 4s 2. Their time is coming to an end.

Not sure about losing, but they certainly aren't winning...

The iPhone can only go so far. We've had iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, now the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S (supposedly), I mean, how much longer is it going to last? iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 7? I guess they'll start using letters & actual names; iPhone XL, iPhone Z, iPhone Galaxy (there's a lawsuit waiting to happen).
The demise of the iPhone is bound to happen.

maybe apple will fail
but if there is a future in the mobile market ,it is not for ANDRIOD
ANDRIOD is no morethan 3-4 years platform
sooner or later people will get bored of the colored widgets in the background
i think the future is for microsoft

Too early to tell, Apple has stayed in it's comfort zone for far too long resulting in iOS becoming incredibly stale while Android and now Microsoft continue to innovate the touch screen market.
But Apple also has it's legion of blindly devoted fans too, it's really a matter of questioning how long that will last before even they want something new.
Even Apple's marketing is faltering, when the iPhone 5 came out they said it was the biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone. That's the most literal marketing ever because the iPhone 5 has a bigger screen than previous generations.
The iPad Mini is just a smaller iPad 2, Apple had the balls to compare it to the Nexus 7, a device that is way more powerful and has a better screen. And Apple's reasoning for charging $350 is because it's a "premium device"
They also continue to put more and more effort into marketing the Retina Display, essentially putting that on top of everything in a way to cover up their lack of innovation.
Every iPhone keynote is a copy and paste of the last one. "Retina Display" "Tons of Apps" "Most advanced mobile operating system" (although that's a lie as they are now stealing from Android) "Works like magic" "New (to iOS) features"
It doesn't matter who is in charge, Apple's stubborn refusal to change and their philosophy of "you will use our products the way we want you to" will only go so far until people leave because they want more options.

It still fathoms me how they made the screen "bigger"...by stretching it a couple more inches vertical. If anything, bigger comes in height/width. They AT LEAST could've made the screen wider. Maybe we'll see that in the iPhone 7.
82. MC1123 (Posts: 1254; Member since: 12 Nov 2012)
you can never tell...maybe there's gonna be a miracle that they will cut the prices.... if they will release an iPhone with awesome specs but with cheap price...
