Will Apple lose the smartphone war without Steve Jobs?
0. phoneArena 26 Nov 2012, 05:50 posted on
It seems some entrepreneurs and analysts believe that without Steve Jobs guiding the company, Apple will slowly lose the smartphone war to Google. Most of you probably know that Google's Android already commands a much larger share of the market, and has been doing so for quite a while, but the reality is that Apple's still raking in much bigger profits, thanks to its extraordinary profit margins...

Apple would lose the mobile war and with Jobs.
13. PhenomFaz (Posts: 1059; Member since: 26 Sep 2012)
Actually Apple has lost the war already!
Didnt anyone catch the article on PA ranking smartphone manufacturers by sales figures.
Numero Uno was Sammy with around 59 million units sold and Apple was second with only 26 million units....so i guess this poll is irrelevant!

I am sorry hater
But you can't judge
This year was a rough year do to supplier issues and (alot) of lawsiuts
It is too early to tell

'do to supplier issues'? Well, you're dead wrong, literally and grammatically, it was a 'rough year due to' that iHideous Purple rAin camera; 'due to' that revolutionary new headphone jack; 'due to' all past accessories being iObsolete 'due to' a brand new (and must-have) connector; 'due to' that stuck in 2009 small @ss screen. Yes, Apple will fail!! Not because their mAster is iDead but, because Apple is so damn rigidly controlling.
Personally, I am making my full retail contribution to Samsung and Android on Thursday morning, November 29th, when I walk into my local NYC Verizon store and walk out with my Galaxy Note II; three times the size of your MiCro-iPhone.

about the grammar mistakes (sorry english is my 3rd language)
iam not here to fight about which OS is better like a 14 years old kid

PAPINYC i fully support you in what you said! I regret getting my GS3 because i want that Note 2 for verizon but either way apple is doomed to fail. But i feel i have to put this on here because i almost cried for mankind when i encountered these two evil spoiled lil sh*tz! two kids were checkin out some phones in my store and i asked how i could help them very nicely and they very snarky like said "oh no we were just comparing our iPhone 5's to the inferior materials and technology in the Samsung Galaxy S3, i mean who would ever buy some plastic cellphone" and before i had security escort them and ban them from the store, i very kindly said "well people would buy a phone built from plastic because just in case they drop it, it wont break compared the fragile glass in an iPhone"

really? really? really? PUHLEEZ FANBOY!
dude Apple cretaes shortage of their product supply in the market to increase product demand...they do it every year and this year when Apple has lost its number one position you are once again turning to supplier excuses only this time you blame Apple's downfall on them?
grow up mate....apple has to take responsibility for its own shortcomings without pointing fingers...its the only way they can make a better product and that holds true for every company!
And what lawsuits? Sammy was being barraged by Apple and was equally involved in lawsuits like Apple but even then they managed to produce winner devices and even though Sammy lost one lawsuit I guess they;re the real winners as theey outsold Apple by more than double!
It may be too early too tell for you but the consumers have become smarter and realized that Apple overprices, overcharges and oversells their inferior hardware and software...so Fanboy get a life and crwal out from under your rock!

Ya agree there was a issue , but not supplying issue it was no innovation and old UI issue :p
alot of law suite ?
And who started it ...

As we said in the post, there are much more Androids being sold than iPhones, but iPhones bring much more money, so it's not like the poll is irrelevant.
25. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5153; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Unless you are Samsung. Then Androids bring as much $ as iPhones.
39. MeoCao (unregistered)
I think Apple will always have good margin, that's where they position their products.
But to talk about war of platforms we must talk about market share, and Apple has already lost the war in smart phones.
They will lose and tablet war next year.
46. darkkjedii (Posts: 8896; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Lmao dude please tell us once and for all what you'd like to see happen to apple
47. MeoCao (unregistered)
Haha, I want Apple to be more open like using standard USB port, allowing more options on iOS like default browser, keyboard, using standard media format...
that's for a start man.
56. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 2957; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
Don't go asking stupid questions like that Darkky... iPhone may be a good phone, but it doesn't mean everything is in it!!
92. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 2957; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrre Darrky, Darrky, Darrky...
Darn, that old dog is getting too old!!!
...and to top it, he won't eat anything unless it's iPedigree!!
50. nofear (Posts: 147; Member since: 22 Jun 2012)
Of course Apple bring more money because it has no expend on R&D, bring in law suit money and lack of innovate idea - Tim Cook. Despite of law suit, Apple wants the court to included Samsung's new device - GS3 and Note II as part of patent infringement.
Overall, Apple is literally will be losing mobile market. ppl have undoubted about it. you should look at all iDevice for yourself and myself included when walked through isle of iDevice - iPhon5, meh! Why bother? it is wasting of my time.
89. metalpoet (unregistered)
every wireless carrier i ever worked for paid you crap for selling an iPhone compared to selling an android!
94. mayur007 (Posts: 178; Member since: 10 Apr 2012)
Money is not everything ..
U can survive with over 150% profit getting on each sale .. like Apple
But no innovation u r almost gone ..
Eg. Nokia, BB(RIM)..
7. kboo1995 (unregistered)
I feel sorry for you man
You are just too retarded even to speak
Steve jobs is basically is the one behind all the ideas in the market rigth know
Samsung ,htc,LG,google they all are really good in one thing
Either you want it or not 2-3 years from know they will all run out of (stolen) ideas and go down
Especially GOOGLE AND SAMSUNG
15. tedkord (Posts: 3778; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
All Apple ever did was steal ideas. Slide to unlock - the Neonode N1m. The iPhone form- the LG Prada. Drop down notification shade- Android. Grid of icons on a phone - Palm.
All the way back to the graphical user interface - stolen from Xerox PARC.
37. darkkjedii (Posts: 8896; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Ted it seems that all u do now is troll apple articles to point out what apples done, but no one in tech or business period has clean hands. U used to make really good comments, now u just seem to be a stereotypical apple basher.
41. tedkord (Posts: 3778; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
I responded to a troll in the same fashionh he posted. I'm not here to please you.
51. SleepingOz (Posts: 2374; Member since: 22 Oct 2011)

85. darkkjedii (Posts: 8896; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
I'm not making a fool of myself, and could care less about who thinks I am lol. There is no denial, these r phones. It's not that serious.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
27. anywherehome (Posts: 971; Member since: 13 Dec 2011)
Nicely brainwashed..... iOS is completely inferior product...... just watch any comparison with Android...... iOS looks like a toddler ;-)
30. TROLL (banned) (Posts: 4851; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
People don't care nor bothered, cause it's cool to and the latest trend!
57. SleepingOz (Posts: 2374; Member since: 22 Oct 2011)
How dare you?! It's just a matter of preference, you know.
iOS is not "inferior", it's just that Android the most advanced mobile OS out there.
86. darkkjedii (Posts: 8896; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
I'm gonna start bashing apple too, just to get those little green thumbs. Not!
75. rusticguy (Posts: 2810; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
Apple set the tone of "How To STEAL" arrogantly and get away with it in US of America with help of Govt machinary called Patent Office :)
79. THETECHTEAM (Posts: 82; Member since: 12 Dec 2011)
First off learn how to spell. Second Google and Samsung not stealing APPLE boring ideas.!! Apple software but its Samsung idea that UI, the components, the chip, the battery all that make up the Iphones Samsung is behind it. Don't fool yourself Buddy! The only thing that apple can say is theirs in those stupid phones is the software. Do your research
11. iWorld (Posts: 84; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
Apple will survive only if they start copying Android,Windows features as they did to apple
31. protozeloz (Posts: 5284; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
They are already doing it with no shame
14. Raymond_htc (Posts: 430; Member since: 06 Apr 2012)
Agreed too. I am an android fan and i salute steve for his really revolutionary innovation. Now steve is gone and Apple's new Tim isn't as innovative as Steve... How is apple gonna win?
58. switza93 (Posts: 19; Member since: 26 Nov 2012)
Apple never has and never will have a chance against the new fleet of Android phones coming onto the market. Thousands of people leave Apple for Android on a daily basis. Apple will fall like RIM...
65. Reluctant_Human (Posts: 753; Member since: 28 Jun 2012)
They actually have a better chance without him cause he was too rigid and the market is changing. Apple's biggest drawbacks are bad press from stupid lawsuits and refusing to adapt to the market. The we are Apple and can do no wrong mentality can only go so far. Don't believe me? Ask RIM.
These new iphones with slightly better specs and unchanging software is reminding me of the Blackberry BOLD.

i love how it doesnt give the option to pick for "apple will lose with/without jobs" but either way Jobs was an overall brilliant man.
96. gelo0291 (Posts: 16; Member since: 06 Nov 2012)
I believe that Apple already lost in the smartphone war even when Steve Jobs was still there.
2. Peter98 (Posts: 119; Member since: 01 Aug 2012)
I'm an Apple fans but I gotta tell everyone. Steve Jobs is really a mastermind of Apple.
Hope they can continue the innovation brought by him.
22. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5153; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
I don't know whether Steve was 'the' master mind at Apple. More likely his contribution was insight across 3 or 4 disciplines and he had the drive (and power) to push his vision through to completion. The iPhone basically built on the iPod. The iPod gave Steve the ability (aka cash) to pursue the iPhone. The succes of the iPhone gave Steve the ability to pursue the iPad.
The new team at Apple need to collectively have the vision that Steve was able to pursue. So far, we have seen more of a building out (iPad mini for example) of Steve's contributions. If Apple is able to do to video what it was able to do to audio (iTunes and iPod/iPhone/iPad), maybe it can eclipse Steve's contributions.
At the moment, the jury is still out, however.
29. anywherehome (Posts: 971; Member since: 13 Dec 2011)
Tell me 1 innovation from Steve......
I really can't find any
He just made you feel special..... just brainwashed you :-)
59. switza93 (Posts: 19; Member since: 26 Nov 2012)
Apple never really had innovation after the iPhone 2G (there best iphone ever)
3. sportsinger75 (Posts: 71; Member since: 11 Nov 2011)
I feel as though Steve wanted to keep things simple and win that way, but I also feel that if he were still alive and well, he would be doing a lot to try and bring a lot more innovation to Apple like he did his whole career with them. Things were never stale when Steve was around, and he always seemed to know just what to do to bring the people what they wanted and needed. Right now there just seems to be like a lot of confusion within Apple as to what to do in the mobile market right now. They need a true leader and innovator willing to do anything it takes to stay on top and I just don't feel like they've got that anymore.
4. Nocturne (Posts: 24; Member since: 21 May 2012)
Steve Jobs was great at hype,. Most of his ideas were just stolen and re-packaged from others, but he was offended when others did it. Blaming the customer, not admitting his product faults and basically saying everything was unnecessary until his company released the product.
He gets too much credit for being innovative when he was just eccentric.
Great businessman but average innovator.

Release the new iPhone tomorrow and take my money now :)
Just take a look of Apple cash reserve... Apple wont fail just that sudden lol...
9. wendygarett (unregistered)
Btw, It's too early to tell... Stop the hatred fandroid...
10. Contreramanjaro (Posts: 152; Member since: 04 Dec 2011)
It's not a question of whether or not they will fail but whether they can continue their domination of the market. Clearly Apple isn't going to close it's doors if a Nexus outsells its phone.
38. mayur007 (Posts: 178; Member since: 10 Apr 2012)
As far as thr is inovation..
Dominance will be thr..
26. Rocksteady (Posts: 181; Member since: 29 Apr 2012)
Apple won't fail as long as their are consumers like you.
They will gain cash for whatever toy they throw at the market. People will mindlessly buy it, even though it's so overpriced.
36. mayur007 (Posts: 178; Member since: 10 Apr 2012)
thats y there customers are known as "ish##p"..

'Release the new iPhone tomorrow and take my money now :)'
That comment right there is very pathetic....
76. rusticguy (Posts: 2810; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
Didn't ENRON fail and took down many big names along with it?
