White is the new Black...Berry, that is

0. phoneArena posted on 26 Jan 2012, 23:53

Not that it will instantly turn things around at RIM, but the Canadian based manufacturer is offering a number of its handsets in white; practically the entire line is, or will be covered in white including the fabulous looking pale faced BlackBerry Bold 9900...

Many people will not buy blackberry because one of the reasons being sites like these always saying blackberry is dead. Just like they were saying symbian is dead which was not dead then but it truly is dead.

good point brotha, all these people need to stop doing that, if u think about it meego isnt really dead either, n9 is still getting updates n what now, symbian is alive for another few years, id say blackberry could make a good comeback this year

I think that they're dying. Just give it a few years and they'll be another WebOS and Symbian.

And are you saying by changing the color to white, it now makes Blackberries instanteously more attractive?

Ever heard the expressing "putting lipstick on a pig" -- after all is said and done, you are still left with a pig. The white color doesn't disguise what is bad about the Blackberries given today's (and tomorrow's) smartphone market.

When was the last time you used a BlackBerry ? for any kind of comparison . ? .

That does not make the fact (that they are losing market share) an untruth.

Perhaps, today, people want a full touchscreen (RIM has very choices in that). They want more apps. The fact is that other phones are providing more than what RIM did until a few months ago. If RIM put in more features, I'm sure people will buy from them again.

Why are you topless?

7. thinking posted on 27 Jan 2012, 03:59

There is some truth in it and RIM knows it, too. They are losing market share very fast - which means many people already stopped buying BB BEFORE this was reported. THEN, this is reported and maybe affects a few people's choices. But the fact is that people stopped buying BB because they liked other options. You cannot blame a newspaper for reporting the news.

You forget that the vast majority of consumers do NOT read sites like these.

They go into the stores and buy what is pushed on them, which is NOT blackberry right now.. they also listen to all their iPhone/Android toting friends and buy what they have.

These sites appeal to a small percentage of the geek community. Most people have NO idea what phones are coming out, and they don't care. They go into Verizon and grab whatever is on the shelf.

gahh why not the bold 9930 in white?! I was already (and still am despite the overpriced tag) tempted with the black model but a white one on sprint would pretty much pull me in. RIM! I hope you come back maybe with a better Bold next year. And I don't think Blackberry is dead I really hope they come back. They just need better specs on their phones, an upgrade to some of their designs, and/or lower price tags!

I just can't see myself ever getting a white phone of any kind... they just seem so, "Look at me! Look at me!" tacky.

Am I the only one thinking.. racists? :P

They should just make the Porsche Design generally available with a contract, do more things to make the BB are more appealing. Larger screens, better menu layout (fixed in BB10 presumably), more compatibility with Android apps, etc
