It looks like this is not the original white back cover. If you look at the speaker cover there is a big gap to the cover.

definatly not an isolated case (no pun intended). Have got 3 s3 in my office. one blue and two white. Both the white ones had cracks in the paint around the camera when they came out the box. and my lil bro who has a white note had the same issue when he unboxxed his.

I always believed Samsung use cheap plastics in their devices. It's been proved again and again. With such a hefty price tag they are simply robbing the millions.

I am having similar issues with my Galaxy S III too, I've got the same cracks on my phone, yet smaller and less notable but in the exact same area! However, i also have these light brown marks on the edge of my phone too... which is quite odd as I've not stained or dropped my phone since it's been purchased as i have been extra careful with it and have had a protective cover on at all times! So if Samsung does come out with a statement, i would like at least a replacement, if not more!

I am in the final stages of deciding which color I want. I've gone one local store a couple of times and they only have a white (dummy) phone. I would like to see the blue before making a decision. Nevertheless, I didn't plan on keeping the back cover on min anyway. There are a couple of places on ebay that are selling aluminum backs to add some individuality to them. I ordered two: A black one (shiny black around the edges, with a muted black aluminum predominantly covering the back) and a white one (white edges with gray aluminum over the back). Either cover will work well on the white one, but the black one would work well on the blue one. Most are coming from overseas, so you will have to be a bit more patient to get the better prices.

There are threads in xda-developers.com and other forums about paint chipping issues on the silver bezel of several white S3s.

You guys are idiots, I mailed you about this issue about a month ago and you said nothing!

Other than the similar cracks, I have found a crack in the rim, below the volume rocker. Other people on forums have reported the same issue.

I went to a samsung repair center and they gladly replaced everything, having left me with the old battery and an essentially new phone.

How ever, this new unit has a rather flimsy volume rocker (just the volume down function), and a dust spec under the glass in the screen. It could only have come like so from the factory.... I'll see about these issues only in the future, they don't bother me much.

Did you sat on it with his phone inside his back pocket? I sat on mine a few times hahaha but nothing happen. Maybe that have to do with my body weight :)

The good thing is though, since my galaxy SIII is made of flimsy polycarbonate plastic, it is easily replaced and I have done so and got the back of the pebble blue, matching with my front of marble white, seems to look pretty awesome imo! Design team from samsung deserve credit for this as the back is tottaly seperate from the front as far as their body goes, so blue and white dont look bad at all, infact i prefer it to the original white, but can't seem to not go back to the full white shell! Prefer replacing plastic over glass (*iphone fanboys enrage and run to the keyboard*) as it's alot easier and cheaper :)

Damn, you guys are a whiny bunch...It's just a cover, go to the Samsung shop and get it changed, if not just buy a new one. It's not that expensive and since S3s are popular you can find accessories everywhere. It's definately cheaper and easier than fixing say a broken iPhone 4 back or if the OneX has a crack you can't even fix it.

meh.. hey if you want to sell your gs3 i'll buy it and buy aluminum back. I've seen that phone and will say a thing like this will not change my mind i would but a after market back made out of aluminium or some type of metal.

All parts are easy to replace, but in unison Samsung is the master for cheap build.
The build quality of the SGSlll was a total let down for me.

I got my s3 on thursday. Yesterday it fell out of my pocket while sitting at the kitchen table (about 12-18") and the "gorilla glass" cracked from the top corner in an arc almost 2 inches long right down to the side near the power button. I'm pissed. This thing is CHEAP. Called Costco (wireless advocates) and they said they are hearing a lot of breakages from normal wear and tear. They are contacting Samsung today to tell them ther is a serious quality issue with this glass. If it can't hit a hard wood floor from 18 inches it's worthless to me. Unfortunately I was supposed to have my Otterbox case by now but it is delayed. Thanks Samsung. Thanks Otterbox. I'm going to trade it in for a RAZR Maxx.

I have a white Samsung s3 and I've just noticed 2 small cracks around the camera lens. I've never dropped my phone and I've always treated it with great care etc. There is defiantly an issue with quality of the back covers. Anybody know how to get this replaced without calling expensive Samsung customer service number?
