Which blends better, the Apple iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S III? Let's go to the tape

0. phoneArena posted on 16 Oct 2012, 13:33

It is painful for smartphone fans to watch the top two smartphones on the planet become reduced to a pile of rubbish quickly, thanks to Tom Dickson's Blendtec blender; as a sales promotion, the "Will it Blend?" series has done a great job selling blenders, but don't do too much to sell handsets...

Nuts!!! What's the point, and who paid for the phones???

37. mas11 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 16:26 6

Blendtec payed for the phones to market how powerful their blenders are.

8. nicholassss posted on 16 Oct 2012, 13:57 5

If they had insurance they're one out something like 100 bucks a phone.

But still :'(

oh testers! there is no end for your way of testing smartphones*sigh* .
weird ones :/
bullet survival testing . long throw test . car survival test and now the blend test
what next? bite test? missiles test? what ever test u put can't beat Nokia 3310 ;)

54. BattleBrat posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:03

I had a computer monitor (in fact it was my last one before the 24" Sony Google TV I'm using now) The Asus LS201, there are videos of people shooting arrows at it (steel tipped ones!) and they bounce off, HELL of a monitor, had a GREAT picture too!

10. FoxDavis posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:04 2

that is the best!

12. oying24 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:24

fck!!! and still some idiots said sgs3 is better.. look at what happend at the end?? can u still recognize it?? whether whos the winner, this is still bullsht!!!

14. EclipseGSX posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:26 26

Aahahaha iPhone was ripped to shreds in seconds. "premium" materials my ass

38. Twisted247 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 16:37 3

Exactly, every i"person"(apparently I cannot make a joke on these boards or face getting banned) says "samsung is just cheap plastic that will never hold up" thanks blendtec.. now I have a great reference video to point them to.

53. 305Bucko posted on 16 Oct 2012, 21:58

you know what holds up better.. dog turds.

hey Styrofoam plates dont shatter when you drop them either.

the video is just funny, if you use this to reference anything it would render your point as invalid as the "obama free phone youtube video"

16. Deadeye37 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:36 3

I think the Blendtec won. I love my Blendtec! Part of me is really tempted to throw my wife's phone into our Blendtec once she upgrades. Stupid Sony POS...

18. MAS10X posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:38 4

I thought Samsung didn't use premium materials, and the iPhone was indestructible, according to the what the people with iphones say.

19. Mr.Mr.Upgrade posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:39 2

Welcome to America home where smart phones are smarter then the people who own them

20. darkkjedii posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:41 1

Stupidest video ever. Just stick to the drop tests, which is realistic. Who the hell drops their phone n a blender.

26. EclipseGSX posted on 16 Oct 2012, 15:00

Yes because everything will drop exactly the same way everytime...sooooo realistic and accurate

29. LostInTheRed posted on 16 Oct 2012, 15:20 3

With all honesty, I'd say this is a more definitive test than a drop test. At least you have a controlled space and the same type of damage.

21. InspectorGadget80 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:42 3

iPhone will always and will blend cause it's made of glass. and you ifans keep saying that the GSIII is made out of cheap plastic just look at how strong the GSIII n how long it took to blend

24. darac posted on 16 Oct 2012, 14:47 5

Why interesting..
"Cheap plastic" device held on much longer than "rock solid, premium" device

27. RapidCat posted on 16 Oct 2012, 15:05 3

waw, cheap alumunium and glass, blend faster

28. hawk62 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 15:08 4

I think the reason the sg3 took longer was its size. I stayed above the blades longer.

47. protozeloz posted on 16 Oct 2012, 20:25 2

1. why are you here again?
2. No galaxy hits the blades as many times, also is heavier than the iphone

slowmo video proves you wrong, the thin and light aluminium just blends easy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iX50dkXXKlY

50. exo2u posted on 16 Oct 2012, 20:41

@protozeloz It would take me too long to explain to you but you are really over simplifying something that could technically be very hard to understand let alone explain.
No need to hate

51. protozeloz posted on 16 Oct 2012, 21:15

so are you saying you don't not agree with the video at all? I think you are overcomplicating certain things

1. The plastic has more elastic capability than the other material, every time the phone goes to the air the S3 elastic rest a bit before the Next hit while metal possesses less elastic properties

2. the Galaxy S3 might me longer but it's also heavier than the iphone, witch could simply compensate

3. the way and form of the galaxy S3 was created so the device slides, a curvature will have a different angle when it hit's than a line

rather than the size the most obvious factor are the shape, the way they were built, why the note 2 does not break by being dropped at the same altitude the Galaxy S3 breaks? I mean is also bigger, but the way the weight and everything was distributed was slightly different....

in the end all I want to say is "cheap plastic" could simply be more durable and impact resistant than some premium materials in the same proportions

57. exo2u posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:52 1

No I'm not saying that I don't agree with the video at all. I'm saying beyond those factors mentioned above the test is damn unfair for both the iPhone and sIII. Even if the iPhone had the exact same conditions it could very likely get blown away again. There are just too many variables going on to even speculate, most drop test and the such should be regarded as highly as benchmarks are, not very high.
If you step back a moment I'm sure you'll agree but then again I'm probably coming from a less biased perception with my general love for all things tech.
Don't get me wrong, I'll take my impact/dust resistant plastic on my nexus over any iPhone to date.

Could simply be though...

62. protozeloz posted on 17 Oct 2012, 07:36

yeah even on a controlled environment there would be no telling what may have occurred, I sometimes get sick of people deciding what materials are more durable than the other just by how they feel in their hands (not your case) if it's highly resistant and affordable to build its not "cheap" especially when built in a certain way to improve its resistant.

48. exo2u posted on 16 Oct 2012, 20:36

Exactly not the least controlled experiment I've seen but not even close to even. It would have to have a completely different blender with all the pieces being bigger in order for this to be even close to fair witch unfortunately would still be misleading in ore ways than one. Will still show this to everyone in doubt of sammys build though.

30. LostInTheRed posted on 16 Oct 2012, 15:21 2

Galaxy S 3 was by far more resistant to the damage. The flexible and durable polycarbonate withstood the blades significantly longer.

35. Loubielou posted on 16 Oct 2012, 15:49 1

{People were saying that the Samsung Galaxy S3 was to like Plastic but it at least lasted alot better than the iPhone5,so well done Apple, you Grumble again in this Test

36. nwright94 (unregistered) posted on 16 Oct 2012, 16:02 4

Is it really coming to people trying to show superiority of their favorite phone by how long it lasts in a blender?? They both were dust at the end, I can't call that a win for either phone O_O

42. chemhaz posted on 16 Oct 2012, 19:01

That's the way buddy, breath in the toxic dust as you open the lid and pour it out onto the bench (without a mask).

When your in hospital dying from some lung related disease caused by exposure to harmful dust elements, don't ask "Why me?".

55. BattleBrat posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:09

At least the phones will have their revenge !!!

43. k4j98 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 19:23 3

The GS3 only lasted longer because it bounces more, seeing as it's plastic.

This guy just destroyed $1500 of phone with $1500 of blender.

56. BattleBrat posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:10

I don't know why but your comment made me ROFL...

44. RandomlyPsychotic posted on 16 Oct 2012, 19:50

Ouch...that kinda hurt me thinking about my phone in that blender.

45. Nikolas.Oliver posted on 16 Oct 2012, 19:53

blend nokia 3310 and your blender will break

46. protozeloz posted on 16 Oct 2012, 20:20

Guys Guys is is that the iPhone remains smooth even when blending, look at that Galaxy S3!!!! took it nearly 10 times more time than the time it took the iPhone to blend!

oh and here is the vid in slow mo

59. hengnarath posted on 17 Oct 2012, 03:03

60. Raymond_htc posted on 17 Oct 2012, 04:09

THe Sammy's polycarbonate backing owns! it doesn't break at all! the iPhone 5 dies shortly!

61. modyt posted on 17 Oct 2012, 04:51

Anyone noticed how long the Polycarbonate beauty stayed in one piece??? SGS3 FTW!

63. aahmed215 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 11:23

I'm a bit surprised by how long the S3 manged to stay fairly intact compared to the iPhone 5.
