What was your favorite Google I/O keynote announcement?
0. phoneArena 15 May 2013, 14:33 posted on
The announcement section is over, and all that's left of the Google I/O 2013 keynote is a question and answer section with Google CEO Larry Page. There have been a ton of announcements across all of Google's products from Android to the web to iOS and more. So, the real question is: What was your favorite Google I/O keynote announcement?...

because you run the company and determine which products they should unveil at this time

They did state that it was going to be developer focused. From a developers persepctive all the things that have been announced today are actually extremely exciting. And a lot of the features are technically an upgrade of Android, they just didn't really slap a 4.3 number onto it. They technically could of announced all this and called it Android 4.3

No GTR722 the world does not revolve around you. Good tools for developers make developers happy. Which may translate to better apps/services, which makes customers happy. Which may translate to money-throwing customers, which then may make Google and developers happy.
Besides, did you not see Keynote Day -1-? DAY ONE. The only fail is you.

Not very, no.
I'd say your post was full of mad at Google.
If I am mad, it'd be at a self-entitled fail like you.
And about the 'no new phone' they've historically unveiled the new nexus phone at the year's end every time. What made you think it'd be different now? What, rumors? Then you really are a fail.

I love to find guys like you, you can get them rolling with 2 or 3 words :D

Wow.....I guess everything else that they announced was garbage? Hey.....this at least gives manufactures a chance to catch up with Nexus phones running the latest version of Android.

I was expecting a new Android version....
8. noim1 (Posts: 296; Member since: 15 May 2012)
well i liked ---->
1.Google Play Games Services cross-platform
2.Google Maps updates
3.New WebM and WebP formats
4.Google Play Education
5.Google+ updates to UI and Photos
& Basically ALL Google Updates ...
But SAD as there was no new Android version :(

I think that was to let OEM's catch up. Let Jellybean 4.2.2 get on more phones and tablets, having it eat in to Gingerbread's marketshare before releasing the next version.

98% software and internet based.
Sadly, the 2% of hardware announcement wasn't entirely hardware based at all.
O, well...these are still improvements in the Google-Android eco-systems so it's not that bad. And the news of the new Nexus 5 is still ticking so...
Somehow, i think in Q3 and Q4, smartphones of all varieties are going to rain heavily for us all.

The Galaxy S4 pure android can be seen as somewhat of a nexus. But I doubt it will come with the pricetag of a nexus.
9. icyrock1 (Posts: 298; Member since: 25 Mar 2013)
No new nexus 7? :/ Was disappointed in this. Liked the Play games announcement though.

Dont be sad as Google may have Big Announcements coming up in Q3 or Q4 ...so they wanted the I/O to be Short ...

most boring i/o ever, no new android no new nexus not even a word about google glass
16. MistB (Posts: 549; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)
Ditto, felt severely underwhelmed thanks to this massive fail of a bore. The Nokia 925, although a modest update I found more entertaining than this.
19. muhsen (Posts: 238; Member since: 07 Jun 2012)
the same here. the 925 event (which many people though it was underwhelming) is more exciting than this :/ !
13. ArtSim98 (Posts: 2175; Member since: 21 Dec 2012)
Wow! An other dissapointment! Yesterday Nokia dissapoinred me with it's event (I like the Lumia 925, but the event was a dissapointment) and today Google dissapointed me... I was excpecting so much new things from these to events... Hope they will satisfy us later this year!
15. imkyle (Posts: 969; Member since: 18 Nov 2010)
Maybe tomorrow they will announce 4.3? I mean there is no way to have a Google I/O w/o having a software update...
31. TheLolGuy (Posts: 483; Member since: 05 Mar 2013)
Exactly. I think some people are too quick to throw in the towel... There's still a second-day keynote. They might announce the features then, you know...

Can I say none and vote for the unveiling of the W222 Mercedes Benz S class which also happened today?
21. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 2992; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
Does it run on Android 4.3? :O
18. PhoneCritic (Posts: 352; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
I was a tad disappointed that no new Android version was shown but I really understand why.
This is giving all manufactures and carriers the time to roll out JB 4.2.2. So far a rash of devices have been receiving the update and that is a good thing. To have rolled out a new Version while everyone was just getting to 4.2.2 would have defeated the purpose of all those devices being upgraded to 4.2.2 because the owners would still be behind.
As for new product announcements I don't think they should have introduced a new nexus tablet or phone as you have great android devices competing now ( HTC One, S4, Sony Z, LG Pro) Google wins here regardless. New product announcements should be done in time for the holiday season. A new Nexus 7 and Nexus Phone. But that's my opinion and I am certainly not a marketing expert.

The only letdowns are false rumours which build up hype which we all fall for, only to be shot down by reality. It kinda defeats whatever excitement we may have had or will have for any future Android/Google endeavours and only makes people look more forward to what Apple will bring with IOS 7. The Note 3 is now admittedly looking a little less exciting now knowing it will be outed with the same Android version as the S4 and will probably not be getting an update to 4.3 until next year, which ironically, 4.3 will STILL be Jellybean.
23. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5536; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
the $650 stock S4 is ahead? really? just how many of you are going to buy that?
should be happier about the upgraded services we use everyday...
25. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
People that always complain about samsung phones being bloated and pissed on with touchwiz will buy it. Also I would imagine it will receive updates almost as fast as a nexus.
37. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5536; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
10 people will probably jump on this. everybody else will either just get a Nexus 4 for half the price or just get a carrier S4 and debloat it themselves.
26. BadAssAbe (Posts: 434; Member since: 22 Apr 2011)
I wish could buy it but this is more of a step forward.
Imagine if all OEM released a stock versions of their flagship each year
29. Klamba92 (Posts: 195; Member since: 25 Jun 2012)
Seriously we are so spoilt that we think companies owe us, and that because there were no hardware announcements or new android announcements this I/O is automatically a fail. We should be thankful we getting anything and that most of these features could have been put as 4.3 jellybean but they are making this available to previous versions so its a big win! I am slightly disappointed there was no new android but this was to get OEMS up to date, and this I/o was primarily focused on developers. This could be better as well as it means the next tech we get will be real upgrades instead of incremental updates!

I knew they'd leave the FHD Nexus 7 out. So disappointing.
33. Ninetysix (Posts: 1331; Member since: 08 Oct 2012)
Loved the Key Lime Pie (5.0) announcement, updated Nexus (white) 4 with LTE, and all the good innovating annoucements that we haven't seen before.
Really overflowing with excitement right now...

Next version android will be a breakthrough, but remember

lol people complaining about the lack of a new os or hardware..we got a gs4 with pure android, this may not be everyones fav phone but its a sign that future phones may come with the option of stock or tw/sense etc...finally when apple update there os what were the major updates they talked about? it was updates to siri and a new map app. apple had to introduce a whole new os just to introduce these new features. google did the same, ie new google now features, new game service, new maps app etc all without an os update...so even though the os number may not be 4.3 or 5.0 , google today addede the same amount of update and more via just app updates than what a full ios 6 os update added.
