What is the perfect smartphone display size for you? (poll results)
Share:
The results indicate that the majority of you, or 40.55% to be exact, find screens between 4.0 and 4.29 inches to be perfect for them. Anything in between 3.5 and 3.99 inches is what 31.5% of our readers prefer, and 24.86% of you are fans of displays measuring 4.3 inches and above. We were quite surprised to see that only 3.09% of you will fancy a smartphone with a screen size below 3.5 inches, which is not good news for the petite HP Veer 4G.

Yeah!
3.5'' to 4.3'' is the standard size.
I'll always go for 4.3''. Very perfect for me.

How about using 3.5, 3.7, 4.0, and 4.3 as the options... clearly makes more sense, as those are the four most common screen sizes. SMH PhoneArena.

Well, the survey is weighted to ensure iPhone doesn't look like it's left out in the cold at 3.5inches. To be fair, at least they should have grouped 4.0 to 4.3 together.

Maybe this should have been done in centimeters. Screw screen size, I want the most radioactive phone! (according to the World Health Organization)

It should also be noted that PhoneArena tried hard to sway votes to the under 3.5" response by saying: "The smaller, the better. Navigation is easy and the smartphone fits nicely in the smallest of pockets."
They also tried hard to sway votes away from the 4.3"+ response by added the verbiage, "No display is too big for my hands." Obviously that statement is simply not true for anyone.
The answer we were supposed to pick was, "Small enough to use with ease, yet big enough to read fine text." The only phones that can meet this perfect balance according to PhoneArea are 3.5" to 3.9".

I second the objection to the way the 4.3"+ vote was worded on the same grounds that it seems the poll author is biased to smaller phones. Why have a poll at all then?
If you read the related article on size, you can see the bias. "When is big just too big?", an article posted just yesterday, ballyhooed 3.5-4" phones as the perfect size. I'm 5'10" (average height for a U.S. male) and i have a GT-I9000M 4" Galaxy S. Too big? Naw! would my web browsing be better with a larger screen. Of course! The constant flipping and zooming takes too much time, and I don't carry a bag for a tablet. And I don't wear skinny jeans ('cuz my knots don't fit.. quoting Jay-Z!), so theres room in my pockets. And as of this post, fully 65% of responders prefer 4" to 4.3"+ displays.
If you're gonna have a poll, don't skew the questions predetermining the answer. This is more like an opinion and a confirmation.

Why not a 3", high resolution (800x400), 8.5mm slim, 1Ghz (Dual-Core??), Android phone ? Enough to surf the web when needed, nice to make calls and the occasional games.
The SonyErricson Xperia Mini is a good size but it is just too thick. If the Xperia has the thickness of the Arc... perfect.
Although I am using my iPhone, I still keep my Samsung P300, which I admit is ugly but if a smart phone comes in that form factor (with nicer trimmings and design), it would really be very very cool. That form factor incidentally have just enough surface area to squeeze in a 3" screen.
If available, I believe many iPhone users wouldn't mind buying it as a second phone.

3.7 - 4" is best. Anything past that, then just get a tablet.
