Sprint is going to turn around and refurb them. all profit

-Wrong! Sprint only refurb phone that are returned withing the 30 days and still in "like new" condition. Actually they loose a little in the process. When people upgrade their phones and turn in their old phone for buyback, service and repair store recycle the parts for repair. If the parts are not needed the phone are sent to some recylcling agency or something. This is more like a movement to prevent phone from ending up in the trash and "not help" the environment.
